We have finished our benchmarks of the new ALGOR USB Zorro II controller card. Benchmarks of HIGHWAY/SUBWAY controllers were updated. A German version of this page is also available.
The list of supported USB devices was also updated.
Thank to all contributors out there !

Never thought the Subway was so slow. There clock port serial adapters that are faster. Maybe it's on those tests only.

ALGOR shows a great increase in performance.
It is a must!

What about the status for USB wacom tablets?

Hi Jose,

don't mix up simple serial chips (like the UARTS 1655x) with a complex serial bus like the USB. The data rate you see in our benchmarks is what you get in the end as user, but keep in mind that USB has a lot more protocol overhead then simple RS232 connections. So in reality, more data is moved over the clockport, you just don't see it, but the USB protocol needs it.
That's life.

Michael

Thanks for the flowers. We just wanted to stay at the top of Classic Amiga USB hardware. So we worked hard :)

> What about the status for USB wacom tablets?

Wacom uses protocols which are nearly the same as in ancient times with their serial tablet. This means that the HID class driver can't cope with these guys.
Why should one use a standard which already has everything if one can also use something homemade :((

We are working on this issue. Stay tuned.

I stay tuned. I have an A4 USB Wacom tablet sleeping on my desk. It would be very nice to have it working... with TVPaint or another paint program!

If there were a driver for this kind of device, I would definitly buy an ALGOR... (and put some more stuff : 128Mb memory key, optical mouse for example)

I am currently searching for 3'5 inch front USB panel that would fit into the second floppy drive bay of my regular A4000 case. All my rear bracket are occupied with various PCI / Zorro boards... Is anyone have found a decent solution to fit USB ports in front of an A4000 standard case?

Follow the effort!

If the A4000 can fit standard 5.25" floppy drives in its bays, look at www.frontx.com - they make front panels of that size, which can take USB, serial, parallel and audio plugs (it's like lego - you buy the chassis and the connectors you need and slot them in yourself. The most complex tool you need is a screwdriver). I don't work for them, but I'm a very satisfied customer :)

Speaking of the 'dropping dead' problem that occurred with the Highway/Subway, it does not seem to be present anymore with the Algor. So, you can use its currently limited HID features. If time permits, I will add the vendor specific Wacom stuff to HID later this year.

My 5.25 bay is currently occupied with a CDRom Drive... And I wish to keep it. I can fit an external SCSI CDRom with the CSPPC SCSI controller but I wish to keep all the stuff in the case... That's why I am searching for a simple 3.5" front USB panel.
