The regular price reflects the massive amount of work that went into that package (and also the size of the Amiga market, where you have less customers to fund development, so products tend to be more expensive). Anyway, the easiest way to get a reduced price, at any time, is to order with another user. I have quite generous discounts for user groups, starting at 20%, for two items, and ending at 50%.

Well I was going to buy it... then I saw the UK/ROI only. Too bad it doesn't include people in the states.

The offer appears open only to UK/ROI users with a Switch or Solo debit card. Credit cards are not acceptable according to the web site.

The offer is directed at all PayPal users in the UK/ROI who have added a regular bank account to their PayPal account, ie. a checked account or a savings account, or who have a positive balance with PayPal. If you have added your bank account to PayPal, any payment will automatically be funded by your bank account, and you can order GoldED with 50% off the price (tomorrow).

Forematt allows Paypal payments afaik so a Uk user could just aswell buy from Forematt who then pay with their Paypal account ?

KDH and AnythingAmiga and LiveWireSystems also accept Paypal.

Question: why only UK users ? If i from Belgium order with paypal, shouldn't that work either ?

Nice idea btw !

The PayPal option is - of course - open to everybody (within PayPal's limits; for example Italians are excluded because PayPal will not allow them to use their bank accounts). However, the promotional offer, 50% off for one day, is exclusively directed at UK/ROI customers. It's a promotional measure to keep the UK market for my software alive and well.

> Forematt allows Paypal payments afaik so a Uk user could just aswell buy from Forematt who then pay with their Paypal account?

What would be the reason for this strange setup ? It's easier to create your own PayPal account (those are free). That said, it would not be possible to order through a dealer, registered AIX CDs are shipped to end users only.

Why are visa/delta etc payments not accepted? It would be so attractive for me to just hammer in the card details and let you have the money. As it is, I'd have to fiddle about registering with paypal, logging my bank account details, which I'm not at all sure I want to do.

This is especially misleading because the paypal screen you link to is a straightforward credit/debit-card payment form.

In reply to Comment 11 (Anonymous):
Accepting credit cards automatically exposes sellers to the chargeback problem: software is ordered, the credit card charge is reversed a few days later (intentionally, or because the card number was stolen), and the seller pays the bill and looses the goods. Until I have a good idea of the percentage of fraud to be expected, that can of worms will not be opened. Another issue is the 4% deduction PayPal makes on incoming international credit card payments.

> This is especially misleading because the paypal screen you link to is a straightforward credit/debit-card payment form.

Blame PayPal, sellers have no say with regard to that form.

I do think GoldEd is a superb piece of software. I do think you deserve to be rewarded for your support. It is a great shame that you have reasons for not offering the product through distributors or other easy means.

It does, unfortunately, mean that you've just lost a sale. :-(

What a terrible idea :) Since this credit card thing seems to be a real problem for some, I've decided to give it a try. If you are still interested, revisit the web site, credit cards are accepted now. On a trial basis until I have some experience with it. I hope that's easy enough.

Well, that was unexpected, but welcome nonetheless! Fair enough, order is in the pipeline.

Are you sure of the facts with your concerns about stolen cards? I do not know for certain, but I understood that it is the credit card company (or their insurer) who foots the bill for fraudulent usage that was a validated transaction. Also in a lot of cases the cardholder is liable for the first £50.

I'm sorry, but what a load of crap. One would think that if you wanted to offer a promotional to keep the market alive for your software you wouldn't CHOP out 75% (or more) of your potential clientel. You could charge a 4% fee on shipping outside of the UK to ease your pocket book a bit for the international orders. For credit card orders and potential fraud, find a company who would be willing to promote your software online using Authenticate.net with the "SafeGuard" service and you shouldn't have to worry about fraud but *maybe* 2% of the time.

You seem to worry too much about the distribution of the software you've written. Not allowing mass distribution of your software is your choice, but it's not a very popular one. I remember trying to order your software through a couple major distributors here in the US, I ended up purchasing CygnusED simply from their kind words of your preferred distribution.

I do have to say this though, I aplaud you for your wonderful anti-piracy measures, encrypting the users 411 into the executable and the key is prime. I'm sure there are other ways to keep such a strict enforcement over it. The author of RainBoot had some pretty good ideas that seemed to work quite well for rev 3.

It's not very dificult to obtain my software: pay for it, wait seven days, and have it in your US mail box. A lot of people have managed that. I don't know what your obsession with buying locally is. Is it such a novel concept for you to pay internationally ? As to costs, 2.50 EUR for delivery to your door should be affordable.

> if you wanted to offer a promotional to keep the market alive for your software

Not "the" market but the "UK" market: I know that GoldED AIX could do much better there, based on my experience with GoldED6. That's why the focus of this promotion is on the UK. GoldED does reasonably well in the USA, in Germany, in Italy and in Nordic countries.

> For credit card orders and potential fraud, find a company who would be willing to promote your software online

There aint no such thing as a free lunch. A company willing to promote your software is also a company willing to get paid for that service. Been there, done that: with partners such as Vesalia, Haage & Partner, Kicksoft, KDH, GTi, and quite a few more. Financially, it made sense while the Amiga market was huge. But if a dealer can't at least triple the sales, the developer has little gain. If a dealer can't at least double the sales, the developer looses money.

Well, I thought it was an excellent offer and placed my order. I have never used GoldED, but all the reports I've seen have said it's wonderful. All I need now is my AmigaOne and OS4 :-)

Yes, in the display configuration dialog, if I remember correctly (or maybe in the global options dialog ?).

What ever happened to the movement that urged Amiga users to support their local shops/resellers. Companies like Software Hut, KDH, Eyetech or whatever need support from as many people as possible to survive. Yeah, you can get cheaper hardware here and there when it comes to some components but what about the software/hardware made specifically for the Amiga systems? Sure the developer can earn a little more money by completely chopping out the middle man and offer their goods direct. Perhaps in a few years after the release of OS4 I might see GoldEd available from one of my local Amiga stores, then I'll look into purchasing... unless a similar 50% offer is given globally so people like me can purchase it with incentive.

Local shops ? Are you living in Alice Wonderland ? I haven't seen a local Amiga shop in the last ten years. It's mail order shops now, isn't it ? Also, I'm not aware of a "movement" to "support" dealers. Last time I checked, I "buy" goods from a mail order business, who makes a "profit". Maybe you over-romanticize a bit ;)
