Cross-post from AmigaWorld.net:

For you who can't read Swedish, the release of AOS4 for CSPPC is drawing closer. Hyperion have found a reliable repair shop repariting broken Cyberstorms for them.

GGS-data announcement (in Swedish). Intertran (free online text/webpage translations into many languages)

Hyperion is making an offer to relay the broken boards of GGS's (and other scandinavian resellers') customers to this repair shop. This relay-offer will rotate between the various Amiga dealers of the world so as not to swamp the repair shop. First off are the Scandinavian resellers.

GGS is now asking people to send in their broken CSPPC:s to them for batch-sending to Hyperion. The price is 1250 SEK (135 euro). If the card cannot be repaired within 3 months, it will be returned by Hyperion at no cost.

If you are an interested Scandinavian (or just really, really impatient), contact GGS data at GGS contact form (Other Scandinavian resellers should have got the same offer)

What this has to do with OS4 "drawing closer"?

I have some information backing that up, but that is either rumour level or NDA-ed. Your news post tells nothing about OS4 "drawing closer".

According to the swedish announcement, they have been given the information that the release of AmigaOS4 is drawing closer. However, how much closer is another story...

In order for the release to be not drawing closer, development would have to stand completely still. :-P

not a troll or a flame pl

i wonder how the first version of os4 of csppc will compare to the maybe vapourware mos on csppc.
in terms of
stability
AOS 68k program combability
apparent responsiveness

And how both these versions will differ from the aone/pegasos versions

Amigia inc supporters should not critisize buckster for saying he will release mos for free for csppc. it is a marketplace economy and competition does happen.

Which is "maybe vapourware" is the first, but I bet it's your opinion, and it's mine. :) MOS already has those 1000 years old betas running on CS/BPPC.

Personally I think the first available OS4 version will be considered early beta as well.

As to stability, even in the best case both will be as stable as the applications are. To preserve compatibility, neither of them has memory protection AFAIK, and even optional per task memprot doesn't help much.

Hope when both has a fair system ready, the stability issue will be priority.

Actually there are MUCH more recent versions than those betas, not released
publically.

Personally I think the first available OS4 version will be considered early beta as well.
--

Well, at that time, MOS relied on the public to do beta-testing, OS4 is (?)
betatested before release, so I suppose that it will be on the same level as
some MOS semi-public betas from this summer or something before that.
It's logical, if we consider when was each product started. I guess that it will
be fairly stable but will still have some problems. That's fine for a new OS.
Then again, I will try it myself to see, I want to have an opinion about both
products.

The good news is that it's a self-enforced deadline, so I'm basically in the clear :-)

Ok calling the mod a bastard was over the top but i am entitled to my opinions without being moderated because the moderator did not agree with the comments.

I never knew censorship was as bad as it is on here but what do you expect when a website owner is in cahoots with Genesi, if i was worshipping Genesi and morphOS my comment would be accepted but Amiga Inc, no way.

ANN -> MNN

That SPECIFIC comment (it's almost compy&pasted each time) has caused endless
flamewars and many headaches to the owners of all Amiga sites (minus one...).
It will be moderated each time it is posted, about either AInc or Genesi.
Yes, that's censorship and yes, in that case IT IS justified.
People from your "side" are ANNOYED by comments like yours. I heard that A LOT...
Just like I am annoyed by some comments from fellow MOS users.

> i am entitled to my opinions without being moderated

You are entitled to your own opinions, yes. But your posting your opinions on ANN, a privately owned website, is a privilege that can be revoked at any time.

> because the moderator did not agree with the comments.

It's not a matter of agreeing with your comments, it's the way you word your comments. If you act like a troll, you'll be likely to be considered as such.

> I never knew censorship was as bad as it is on here but what do you expect
> when a website owner is in cahoots with Genesi

For every hundred censorship conplainers, there's a hundred people who complain about trolling. There's no way for me to win, really. But if I have the choice between a person posting reasonable comments and being annoyed by trolling replies, or a troll posting one liners that do nothing but create trouble, the choice is easy.

Also, could you explain to me how I am "in cahoots" with Genesi?

(You'll also notice that Teemu moderated you, not me.)

> if i was worshipping Genesi and morphOS my comment would be accepted but
> Amiga Inc, no way.

It's easy to make that statement. But I challenge you to back it up with significant proof.

It is ashame this offer has to come from Hyperion.
Why? Because its a send money to Hyperion, based on the idea,
that OS4 is almost ready.

You know, I don't own a Cyberstorm PPC, but I wouldn't send
money to a company based on the idea that OS4 is almost ready.
Not in a million years.

How many times do people have to get burned, pre-paying for services,
or offers, based on the idea that the holy grail OS4 is almost ready,
before we STOP doing it.

And now, I am quite aware, that some people regard this as being pessimistic.
But I call it well warranted caution. I won't be offended if someday
Hyperion earns an honest dollar from me. But they won't get my money,
even if its just me, until they release OS4, not another promise for OS4
to be done soon, if only you give us some cash to help fund our operations.

Why has Hyperion suddenly gone into the Cyberstorm repair business?

They are a business, and they switched the focus of their business, why?
Is it because the lure of pre-payment is forever so strong in this community...
pay me now, I'll deliver later, I promise.

I'm sorry but what a completely ridiculous post this is.

We are offering people the chance to get their very expensive hardware repaired after the original producer went bankrupt and the current IP holder is no longer interested in either repairing or producing them.

This offer must be judged on its own merits and has nothing to do with OS 4 other than the fact that in the future OS 4 will run on these boards, or not depending on what the user decides.

It's saddening to see that MorphOS followers are now so instilled with hatred against Hyperion that they can't even understand that there are scores of people who are dying to get their hardware repaired and that it is in fact a Genesi/bPlan affiliated company which has not lifted a finger to make this happen.

I should also point out that the original designer of the Cyberstorm PPC hardware now works for bPlan but that that company too has not lifted a finger to help these people.

Maybe you should bark up the right tree for a change.
