The new multidisk.device for Amiga OS (version 2.0 and up) and MorphOS now recognizes the Catweasel MK3 PCI/Flipper in a PCI-slot of an Amiga, Amithlon or Pegasos. With this, individual Computers is the first to deliver a working floppy-driver for the Pegasos, which brings the aspiring system one step closer to the big role model "Amiga". Burning CDs to transfer small amounts of data is no longer necessary, now you can use floppy disks of all common disk formats like Amiga 880K, Amiga 1760K, PC720K, PC1440K and many more. The device is a public beta version, and it uses OpenPCI to recognize and activate the board. Unfortunately, neither the authors of OpenPCI, nor we could get hold of developer information about the Mediator PCI board, so this will not be supported until further notice.

What's next ? C64 SID support to bring pegasos a step closer to the big role model "C64" ? :) A bit pathetic news imho.
Catweasel might have its special use but blocks at least one PCI slot of Pegasos just for legacy amiga floppy read support ....
If you want to write old style 3 1/2" floppies, better go for a USB floppy drive.

Actually Catweasel is the ultimate emulation solution... Digital joys, floppy,
sid, Amiga kb... anything you might need...

Wow! That's it! I'm placing an order for a Catweasel ASAP! :-)
This "MorphOS" part is what I have been waiting for! Great work! :-D

I must say that Individual Computers has grown in my eyes lately. So many great products. I'm also buying the c-one as soon as it is available in Sweden.

I'm sure that the (coming) Catweasel in my Peggy will be useful i combination with the c-one as well!

Hm... the Pegasos doesnt make use of the floppy controller used in the VIA southbridge ?

The Pegasos: Yes. MorphOS: Not yet.

Fair enough - it's not as if the "PC" floppy disk controller is hard to find docs for, I imagine it'll come as trackdisk.device someday :)

Well.. I have not much use for PC format floppies on Pega.. Those old Amiga and C64 disks are much more interesting.

In reply to Comment 11 (JoannaK):
Well... the 1541 block access will work, but the 1541 handler does some hardware-hacking, which only works on a real Amiga. To make it work on Pegasos, you'd have to catch that with a trap. I think the source is available on Aminet, you could also do a "clean rework" :-)

Anyway, more to come. Floppy access is just a quarter of the Catweasel MK3!

Jens, I was about to forward to you compiled emails from Phoenix members about wanting this, when I decided to get lazy first and read some ANN. Hey, as always: good stuff, and nice to see it for Pegasos!

I see your point - however booting from floppy for diagnostic reasons is sometimes useful, also is that there is probably no OS in the world that can't read FAT formatted floppies so it's useful for data transfer should no other means be available.

I hope MorphOS will support LS-120 and Zip disks in future also (that's if they already don't, haven't read the spec list for a while!)

Yep.. you are right, it has it's uses.. unfortunately I'm not sure if it's possible to fit Mos kernel image and utilities to single HD disk (= I have not tested) and those multi disk systems (as found on some Windowses) are quite awfull to use. Ah well... at least OF can load extra code, and 1.4M of nicely written Forth can do wonders.. :)

For future, I really like the fact that MOS has USB stack included. So transfering files is easy with all those Usb-memorythingies on sale these days. (not tested them yet either :)

Jens: I know.. I have A2000 keyboard here (and din->ps2 adapter) and couple trusty old Competition Pro:s from old age. And I think I could find one or two of those SID chips when there is player support for them. :)

I do not use Zip disks myself, but I have read reports on the BT mailinglist that both IDE and USB Zip drives works great.

Yup. I want to use an Amiga keyboard and mouse (actually trackball) with Amithlon.

Great news but:

Too bad we had to wait for the Catweasel to be able to use a floppy drive on a Pegasos under MorphOS...

What about the standard fd controller ?

And: what about 3D drivers ? Must we wait for Hyperion to write new drivers for Warp3D and then use it via emulation ? great ;(

Ok... I can now confirm that CW3 floppy access works under Morphos 1.3 (on Pegasos). Have successfully read Amiga 880k disks and PD 1.44MB.

Took some time but it's mostly due my lack of recent experience with mountlists etc. and partially to the fact that my CW3 installation CD is a bit goofy (=automatic installation was impossible). Thanks to supportive people at #morphos for help ..

Jens: Is that installation CD-contents available to Download?
