Today is Petro Tyschtschenko's 60th birthday. Petro has seen four Amiga companies (Commodore-Amiga Inc. (1984-94), Amiga Technologies GmbH (1995-96), Amiga International (1997-2001) and Amiga Inc. since the year 2000 from which he was later retired) in over 20 years. Since then he has been at various Amiga shows, one of the last ones was the C= Show on which he presented the Pegasos and MorphOS. You can read an interview with him here and here.

Post taken from MorphOS-News.de.
I find the second link *EXTREMELY* interesting...
Especially the part about AInc.

Wasn't there some announcement a while back about Petros involvement in the
Thendic/Bplan venture? Just after the "Amiga super brains" post he did? About
a year or so back?

Suffice to say, I expect competitors to take pot shots at each other like this
and I do not consider Petros take on the world as being particularly insightful
and nor has it ever been.

Happy birthday, Petro!

What he may have lacked in technical knowledge, he more than made up with in warmth and caring for the community. His generosity and empathy is missed in the current climate. The current ownership could learn a lesson or a dozen from him. As always, thanks Petro.

> I always had this nagging feeling that they wanted to be rid of me, that

...and I have this nagging feeling that this is mud-slinging on the behalf of the so "unbiased" Petro.

Coward. I mean, saying their strategy won't hold or that it is somehow flawed would be more courageous and honest than denying it's existence.

I'd take the words of Petro in this interview with a huge buckload of salt. :-/

Yes, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Petro!

And for those who think Petro was being critical of an -old- employer merely on behalf of a -new- employer, perhaps you should consider that he got involved with the new employer primarily with the hope that he would be working in a situation that was more favorable - in his opinion at least - as regards strategies and the will to make them sing.

IF I understood english correct, and you're being negative at Petro:
If you were here I'd slap you in the face and drag you around the local forests. I'd take the words of you as a bucketload of bullshit.
Apparently you have not been following his activities in Amiga-scene, and what he has done for the community and usergroups. I bet you have never even talked to him. My guesses, my thoughts. Either of them wrong, I apologise. Even one of them correct, fuck off and die.

Petro, I only knew Petro through the news and public statements that he made, but it was clear he was always very passionate about the platform. I was glad he was there to keep operations afloat.

When this community needed him, he shouldered the responsibilities of leadership that were thrust upon him, and did so admirably. I wish him the best in all that he does, and of course, a happy birthday.

Really? I thought that sounded totally honest. None of the Amiga companies have a strategy that's worthy of the name, but AInc is the worst of the bunch. Their entire corporate fairy tale depends on a willingness to suspend disbelief.

I only had the chance to meet Petro once at a WoA show.
Even though he'd had a long and hard day, he still smiled heartily.

Petro: I did not always agree with your visions about Amiga, but you certainly played a key role in the Amiga history. Without you Amiga may not have been around today. For that alone I thank you, and I wish you a happy birthday.

He also got us into the darkest period. If I remember correctly, back in 1994, it was him that approached Escom and got them involved, who outbid Commodore UK's management buyout... why didn't he join them instead? Things would be very different if David Pleasance had succeeded.

In reply to Comment 30 (smithy):
David Pleasance was a complete fool with no money in his back (just like ...).
Escom didn't need to outbit him as his bid was never really accepted.

Also AT was quite o.k. for an Amiga-company, and it was the mothercompany who
brought it down, not Petro&Co. (Who also made some mistakes, but no fatal ones).

I wish Petro a great birthday. I talked to him at Amitech (Stockholm) 6 years ago and he is really a warm and gentle person. He should have all the credits
in the world for keeping the Amiga alive today. Not a chance it had survived if it wasn't for his hard work back then.

I wish him all the best for the future.

No, he was not a fool. He was a superb salesman who was mainly responsible for the big success of the A500 and A1200 in the UK.

It is true that he couldn't get the money together.
