In this thread over at amiga.org, BBRV says that the "superbundle" will be presented at the AmiWest show, along with the G4 CPU module for the Pegasos1 and perhaps even a prototype of the Pegasos Two!

Posted by Alan Buxey on 26-Apr-2003 20:07 GMT | confusing. first there would be G4 for PegasosI, then
Pegasos I chipset not good enough for G4 and users
could upgrade PegasosI to PegasosII with G4 for a reasonable
price, now theres to be G4 for PegasosI.
more turns being performed here than Torville and Dean!

New Genesi products at the AmiWest Show : Comment 2 of 5 | ANN.lu |
Posted by takemehomegrandma on 26-Apr-2003 23:16 GMT | In reply to Comment 1 (Alan Buxey): Yes, a bit confusing it might be. But as far as I have understood (I am not claiming this is a fact in any way, this is only my view of it), Genesi discovered that the Articia chipset didn't allow the G4 to work in it's *full performance*. It *worked* (as in "it could be used, and it could be sold"), but it didn't perfom in it's best. The G3 performed better than the G4 in that way. Therefore (and in conjunction with other Articia problems, such as availability for instance) they first decided to quit the Pegasos One production and to not releasing a G4 CPU mudule for the Pegasos One. Instead they would focus their G4 CPU efforts towards the Pegasos Two.
But then it was clear that it would actually be possible to use the same P1 CPU card interface on the P2 (despite it's new chipset) which means that a CPU card for the Articia based P1 could actually also be used on the new P2 as well, and vice versa. I don't know if the April2 will fix any of the G4 performance issues on the Articia based P1/A1, but at least it will be possible to release a G4 CPU module for the P1 (which obviously was demanded by some parts of the community) even though it (perhaps, I don't know about the April2) still doesn't perform in it's best on the Articia based P1. It will be released though, and it might help bringing economy of scale into the production of the CPU modules ...
Just my two cents! |
