According to news at PPCNUX.DE, KDH Datentechnik have recieved 300% more orders on the AmigaOne than on Pegasos. Read the short news here.
Impressive as the sale will get another boost when OS4 is released.

Would have been nice to see some exact numbers but I guess only Eyetech, KDH and BBRV knows these.

This is only 1 retailer, and the vast majority of Pegasos owners ordered them direct from Genesi rather than through a re-seller anyway.

Cool, they have sold 3 IOU coupons for Teron boards, but only 1 discontinued Pegasos I that was left in stock.

How's that? ;-)

There are lies, damn lies, and statistics. Below that, there's marketing and zealot flame wars.

So, it all depends on how one looks all news (and also how much Background info one has):)

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Pegasos $299 offer (which also covers the biggest part of all Pegasos manufactured this far) only available through Phoenix and Genesi directly? Not that this matters, but ...

Silly, completely silly!!
Also, in my house there is 1 Pegasos and NO Amigaone. Does that mean the Pegasos has sold 100% more than the Amigaone? No;-)

Gensi has given hard sales figures, Eyetech has not. Anything said is pure speculation.

Guess they are going to se some thing they never seine before, the Amiga market is staved of Amiga computers, and the OS is old and outdated, now this tow things are fixed well I bet first it going be lots of die hard users running to by one the pre orders, then the ones how don’t need an Amiga butt have interest in that direction and the finally we market recognise the existents of the Amiga. Lots of old 68k programs need to be updated and converted to AmigaOS, MorphOS and AROS, one geek tool to convert is RAMOS runtime module.

Hi, from the latest Pegasos production we sent 15 Pegasos machines to KDH, 81 to Vesalia, 18 to eFUNzine, 34 to Computer City, 30 to APS, 10 to Relec, and 30 to GGSData.

We also sent boards to new Amiga Resellers such as 20 to Pegasos-UK and 10 to Boing Inc.

All the rest were sold through Pegasos-USA, given to Developers or exchanged with Betatester buyers.

The are slightly more than 600 Pegasos users world wide. We will have a small number of boards available again the week after next, but that will be all until the Pegasos II.

Sincerely,

Raquel and Bill
Genesi

Hmm, has there been an estimated time of release for the Peg II, and what more than northbridge supplier is publically known? Like you might have discovered, I have a bit of an interest in PPC hardware. Of course, I just barely avoided buying a dual Opteron system today. Still not known if I will avoid it tomorrow :-) (not too expensive, REALLY excellent specs. Gotta try it out sooner or later)

September 2003 was the last given date. There *might* be a prototype shown at
the AmiWest show (I guess that does also depend on who from Genesi will attend)
in July. As I said in another thread. This AmiWest 2003 show will be very
interesting with OS4 being announced for summer and therefore (just my guess)
also being demoed on the AmigaOne and the PegasosII with MorphOS.

Maybe the most important element is the fact that the Pegasos is available with its own OS, dev tools and that a community of developers is slowly growing around it.

The fact that the Amiga One has still no OS (and the release date is still unknown and uncertain) allows the Pegasos to win some yards and some more interest outside the Amiga "community".

Dev + games + demos for the Pegasos could be the equation of the success.

So you think an Amiga-a-like OS will gain interest outside the community
over and above Linux ( which is an OS Ben despite what you and others seem

Is there still a possibility that the Pegasos1 will be manufactured by others?

In February you wrote:
"We will most likely license the board design with the new Articia (if it works as it should) to another manufacturer - like Plexuscom for example."

So, has any deal been made? It would be really nice to have a computer like this in the stereo rack next to the TV:

Even if these figures might not be statistically correct (I don't know), would it
be such a big surprise if AOne (bought to run a future AOS4 as far as most are
concerned), outsold Pegasos? For all the benefits of MOS-Pegasos, it IS after all
still a clique in the clique that is the Amiga market. Not to mention that many
people using MOS is interested in AOS4 as well. I find it quite logical and is not
surprised at all that the official solution (the "name" if those of you fond of
that kind of rhetoric) would dominate sales-wise in our little computer world.

In reply to Comment 36 (SlimJim):
The Pegasos 1 would have sold more than 600 units if more units would have been available.
MorphOS has never been tested by most of the Amiga users. Most of the people who got a Pegasos have been either tempted while discovering MorphOS at demos/shows or while visiting friends.
Now that these 600 systems are being used several Pegasos users friends would like to get one, but since they have been told that a Pegasos 2 is coming they are in standby mode.
The situation for the Amigaone is different.
There are the users who had enough to wait and got the AmigaOne even if there is no OS4 yet, there are the one waiting for OS4 to be released, and the one that will stay on power up HW or classic.
A few users will get the two systems.

Anyway I don't see a major change into this niche market until we have decent modern applications and have a chance to keep up with recent hardware.
The effort to bring these platforms is a great chance for us but it has to move ahead very quick or will be to little to late.
I'm sure both Genesi and Hyperion/Eyetech do everything possible to get there. They will need to get big contracts outside this desktop niche market to do so.
To get some success with desktop users it will require that the Amiga community focus on getting all potential interested developers/users on the platform and stop useless fights on websites forums which make potential users going away.

The split, A1 owners without OS4 constrained to use Linux (!!!), fewer A1s and fewer Pegasos'es as planned because of the articia bugs, fewers users because of the community split, late OS'es b/c of the split etc...
