Should we take about things that exist like the Amiga500 or the C64, this is not the retro forum you know.

I don't see how the articles on CAM are advertising material. Under the same light I guess you refuse to buy newspapers because it's the same thing.
Oh, have you ever purchased a computer magazine (like PC world or PC Magazine) over 50% is advertising and yes, you are paying for those pages too.

Oh, that's easy then...
Windows LongHorn is coming out nicely in beta... it even leaked on the net

So....? You can play that game with any OS.

Articles announcing the clever features of a future product are advertising.

I get (for some forgotten reason) a fat magazine from Mercedes full of articles about new and forthcoming technology in their cars, and how user-friendly and environmentally friendly they are going to be. It is exactly the same kind of information.

The "Amiga World" web magazine was the same. It all enhances the company's image as a leader of technology, which most companies like to be these days.

In a PC magazine that you buy, the editorial is not written by Microsoft or Dell employees.

So, facts like that the sources now has been made to work with GCC rather than SASC is advertising? No, that is "behind the scenes information" that will not effect the sales of their product in any way. Please note; that was 1 example out of many.

Don, please realize that if their intentions was only about advertising, they would of course make it available to everyone for free. Why would they intentionally oppose their own cause? It doesn't make sense.

As a customer, you already have the information you need. It's free and available to everyone here: http://os.amiga.com/os4/

If you are a "geek" that wants to know more about what's going on behind the scenes, sign up for a club membership. I really don't see the problem here.

> AAAMAZING ISN'T IT?

I don`t think you can alias C: acutally Raffaele, and if you can, then you shouldn`t.

AmigaDOS uses C: as the commands directory. It points to SYS:C, SYS: being whichever disk you booted from and C being a directory in the root of that disk.

This could seriously upset AmigaDOS, if I typed C: in a shell (as you said) should AmigaDOS take me to hd0: or sys:c ???

*STOP PRESS*

I`ve just checked it. After you define and alias with the name C: everything else in that shell would then address the alias instead of the Assign. This could cause problems (such as "unknown command"), but for some reason doesn`t!

AmigaDOS is obviously smart enough!

Regards,

Frank. (I still think you shouldn`t do it though! :-) )

It doesn't cause it looks in both C: and SYS:C/... Take a look at the path
command in the S-S. You can change the C: assign if you want to something else
but this will upset many scripts and hardwired programs.

Of course it will. This is part of the "we are seriously updating the OS" story. The updating is what they are selling.

The alternative products are Amithlon or Amiga Forever. I need a lot of convincing that AOS 4 will be so much more up to date and technically superior that it will justify buying a whole new and expensive computer. So would anyone who doesn't have money to burn.

What about the official MS Windows XP magazine?

@Don
To prove that an 'official Microsoft Windows XP magazine existence refer to
http://www.windowsxpmagazine.co.uk/magazine/

Other 'official' magazine is the 'Official Australian PlayStation 2' magazine.
Both official materials have to be paid by the consumer. But with Microsoft, materials covered in the official magazines does exist for free i.e. in their knowledge website**(you have search for it) and Window’s auto update feature. You pay for the convenience** and presentation (targeted for different users and skill levels).

Amiga Inc/Hyperion’s CAM is just a scaled down version of the mainstream official platform magazine. IF the market size gets larger, an official AmigaOS magazine would be nice (i.e. includes official hint & tips, official service patches, official demo product releases, product review from the official perspective, official comments (about the industry and their products), official QnA, power point lectures, official interviews and third party contributions).

IF the mainstream users find this Microsoft/Sony official magazine practise acceptable, why not AmigaOS users?

No, I said *pre*payed for. That's what you do if you want to support a product that is still under development.
