FYI, 1GHz, 1.2 GHz and 1.3 GHz Pegasos G4 cards to be produced next week. The commercial release will be in July, depending on which version has the best price vs. performance ratio.

I hope by "some new G4" you mean "Motorola are prototyping devices on a smaller fab size" - of course the two are not the same. The speculation in the article then continues and (a logical) assumption is made that the same fab shrink could be made to the 7457.

In no way is that related to the imminent release of 7450 devices for the Pegasos platform.

For you future reference I have no experience of the Pegasos, so do not hate it as you suggest. On the other hand Bill Buck's in-your-face marketing gets under my skin. I do not stand alone on that.

OK, so he should maybe add a new article to say they're producing some new G4.

Anyway, I really think it's not that off topic. It's just that you can't stand BB anymore because you are into this OS4 vs MOS war, just like most of us !

So, calm down & breathe :)

His marketing gets under my skin, but to say I can't stand him is steep. I don't know him or even met him. The LACK of apparent effort from Bill McEwen annoys me just as much. I don't get involved in the OS4 <-> MOS "war", it irritates me there are so many people out there who lack the self control, and have propagated dissilusionment in the who "Amiga & compatible" market sector.

I sold my Amiga early last year and hoped by visiting ANN, Amiga.org etc I could keep up my interest... I find the only thing people are willing to debate is... you guessed it!!!

In fairness, it's Bill Buck's job to sell and promote the Pegasos so information like he posted is valid. It's not like he tried to say "we'll have a 1.x processor running on superior hardware that wont work on a rival platform because of xxxx reasons". Just basics facts and to the point. If all announcements were kept to this standard then perhaps we could avoid most of the flame/FUD wars.

Plus, it also means that we can expect similar modules for the AmigaOne...

What's on topic in a thread about 1GHz+ G4's, a two-line claim that
such CPU's (albeit different models) will be available for a related
platform next month, or a discussion about whether it's ok to post
such information?

Well.. I think at least THIS message is clearly off-topic. :)

The CPU (G4) goes on the card (we know you know that, but thought we should clarify this for the others).

Yep. I've spent so many hours over the last 2 months on a aeroplane that my ass is now the same shape as a plane seat!!! I'm sure you know exactly how that feels from personal experience. :-)

>> How long will you be in Amsterdam? When exactly?

I'll only be there for around 4 hours on Thursay unless there are some delays. I have to catch another flight to Houston. I'm hoping that the plane breaks down and I'll get to roam the city for a day, however I have a new wife that's hardly seen me since we got married and she wants me home. She also assures me that if there's any "unusual charges" on my credit card statement then she's going to murder me in my sleep. I've no idea what she means!!! :-(

> About the connectors...that refers to the CPU card of the Pegasos and how it connects to the mainboard. The CPU (G4) goes on the card (we know you know that, but thought we should clarify this for the others).

I was (trying and failed) to make a little joke there. However, now I think about it, on both the A1 and Pegasos the processor goes on a removeable card, so what's to stop Eyetech producing a G4 card for Pegasos owners to undercut your company or for your company to produce an AmigaOne CPU upgrade card to undercut any Eyetech product? After all, whoever purchases the most G4's in quantity gets the best price (no?) so if you are not just targeting your motherboard, but also a rivals then you'll be able to order and sell more G4's? Mind you, even combined A1/Pegasos units probably don't add up to a "discountable" order.

Just thinking... It's a hobby of mine ;-)

Cool. But I agree with the many others, it would be better with a huge heatsink than an annoying fan. If you go for a fan, don't use a cheap noisy one. Perhaps you could include those aspects in your evaluation? I know that many likes (me included) the silence from their current G3's.

Why was this "Faster G4 processors from Motorola" posted here in the first place? Because G4's are of interest to the Amiga community since you can use them in A1/Pegasos systems. The "can use them" is the key.

The first Off Topic post in this thread (not counting the meaningless "pigs might fly") was yours!
