I am sure Eyetech could ask Hyperion to develop a protection code so only originalEyetech G4 cards would run. :o)

Both the message topic and the news about the new Pegasos production are good news.

People love to complain these days, don't they? Frankly the posts with < 10 replies, no arguments and not a single word typed in all caps are a little boring. ;*)

@tmhg ...yes, but we were discussing the CPU...soon to be know as the CyberPegasosUnit!

"The first Off Topic post in this thread (not counting the meaningless "pigs might fly") was yours!"

The issue I had with Bill's post was not the degree to which it was (or was not) off topic.

This thread (just like the AROS donation thread) had no commercial relevence to Pegasos untill Bill dragged the subject up. As pointed out by someone else, Bill Buck is a key figure in this market sector and to have him communicate closely is indeed a Good Thing. In what capacity do we require though? Non-existant (In the case of Bill McEwen & friends), to answer posed questions (like the Amiga.org questions sessions), to join in with constructive criticism (like here on ANN sometimes), or to blow ones companies trumpet (like Bill Buck in this and the AROS thread).

It's is not common practice for customer and business to be in contact so closely, and it creates a new set of problems. In my opinion, Bill has once again taken his advantage too far and has crossed the line of what is considered being a *part* of the community and *dominating* the community.

Hey, I'm a MOS user but I stopped "attacking" the other product, if find it stupid, and I try to remain open; but I tend to defend the product I'm using b/c I like it...

Many of us react in terms of camps automatically, without their wanting it...

Automatically jumping at bbrv in this thread was not useful.

It's a pathetic situation the community is in :(

However I hope only a minority takes part in flamewars..

The problem is the ambiance of animosity, adversity which reigns here :( We should just post constructive things. Constructive criticisms, interesting things. We don't fight for our lives ! We just consider products !

Anyway I now rarely comment on ann, it's really tiring and depressing to see the community tearing itself apart. So now I focus on good things : what was released, what good is happening etc... Everybody shoud do that :)

Hey BB, I heard disappointing tales about lacking support for the MOS part of the Pegs, namely things like arrogance, carelessness and indifference. Yes, Peg owners told me, its not just invented.
You should work on that aspect, too. Not just on the hardware.
You know, if it keeps this way its unlikely I will ever buy a peg. And this should happen with others, too. Just owning a piece of good hw doesnt cut the mustard, support and development must be good, too.

<troll>
Yup. Just wait for your customers to start a couple of Yahoo! Groups mailinglists and let them play with Linux driver sources too for good measure, and everything will be just fine.

You don't even need a piece of good hw, you can sell somebody else's old developer boards, or whatever they happen to have available. You don't even have to know diddly squat about the stuff you're selling, just publicly pretend that you're "ordering G4 CPU's," you "can't find any bugs," you "have fixed the bugs," you "need extra QA tests," etc. You'll get away with those obvious lies.
</troll>

Of course I'm joking. Something that's sold like that could never ever get a certification that's allegedly there to guarantee end-user support <*snicker*>, among other things. Could it? ;-)

Before some dumbfck split vision campist gets his knickers in a knot over this, I'll add that yeah, the MorphOS + Pegasos support needs to reach "mainstream" levels as well, now that it's not a "BETATESTER" thingy any more. Shape up.

In reply to Comment 84 (Anonymous):
Well, i'm not going to start flaming you for what you wrote, because you do have
a point worth talking about.

Yes, the A1 only runs Linux atm (as far as i know that is), but you did pull the
whole situation out of context.

the A1 product is still rough arround the corners as far as i heard, but frankly
it doesn't bother me, same goes to the pegasos, there are rough edges.

these rough edges aren't going to stop me to buy the product that interrests me
tho, but here are afew things they (both eyetech & genesi) could do to improve
the situation:

1) Set up a (public) site with asmuch documentation about the product as
possible, make it readable to people with & without the hardware, don't make a
"club" out of owning it.

2) Provide asmuch technicall documents about the boards as you are legally
allowed to do

3) Try and get mainstream interest by pushing the boards into other markets
(Genesi was doing a great job at that, but for the moment they have no product
to sell anymore)

4) Stay out of public forums!

5) Use the proper mediachannels to make statements & announcements

6) Listen to your customers, don't bully them

7) Please, i repeat, please don't make *any* statements about the competition,
unless these statements involve things like licence agreements, cooperation,
and stuff like that

8) If you feel the need to neglect 7, provide full technicall coverage about
the issue's you raised

9) If you need a mailinglist, set up a real mailinglist, don't use things like
Yahoo, it's unproffesional, and it's really not that expensive to set a server
up with majordomo

10) It's the little things that get you extra customers, even if you only have
limited resources, it is still possible to make attractive bundles (software).
If you bundle with eg LinuxPPC, make sure that the software is easilly updated,
and comes with a default install that is suitable for newbies (while still
giving the experts the choice of getting the 'nasty' bits)

These are my 10 commandments :)

Cheers

Hi dear Bill!
>> FYI, 1GHz, 1.2 GHz and 1.3 GHz Pegasos G4 cards to be produced next week. The commercial release will be in July, depending on which version has the best price vs. performance ratio.

I only seriously hope it will be in every case a 7457 one! And not an older model. Let's cross our finger hopeing that for one time you will really surprise us.
All you Pegasos users cross your fingers with me. ;-)
