Cloanto released today version 5.3 of Amiga Forever... Cloanto released today version 5.3 of Amiga Forever, the official Amiga emulation and connectivity package for PCs. New features include improved emulation components and new versions of Software Manager and Personal Paint, Cloanto's award-winning paint software, now available in version 7.1c. The cross-platform version of Amiga Forever 5.3 includes better support for Amiga emulation configurations on Mac OS X. The Amiga Forever Home Page at amigaforever.com keeps being frequently updated, and the numerous articles in the FAQ section continue to attract a constantly growing number of Amiga emulation users. Cloanto also released a new stand-alone version of Software Manager, available for free download from cloanto.com, which is able to detect installed versions of WinUAE, WinFellow, DirectX and other Windows components required by various emulation programs (e.g. OpenGL on Windows 95, etc.). This new version of Software Manager is independent of Amiga Forever, and can be used by all Amiga emulation users. The software is completely free and does neither include any type of "adware" or "spyware", nor send any information about installed applications.

Is there a specific version for AmigaOne systems?

No.

Although don't be surprised to see UAE on AOS4 later on even if it isn't needed.

I bought Amiga Forever from Bat (great T-shirt selection too!) at a beautiful New Jersey Bed & Breakfast we were both staying at during Hayniefest 99. It's a useful and easy-to-install product with good support and clean documentation. And it keeps getting better. My only regret is that there still isn't a Windows-hosted FFS included so that one can pop an Amiga hard disk into the Winbox and immediately begin transfering data.

It is possible in WinUAE 0.8.2.2r4 and up to use a real HD under the emulation.

I use this instead of Amithlon (because amithlon doesn't like my hardware) and it works greatly.

I've been forced into using the emulation because my NIC in my real amiga died, and i'll be damned if i spend more money on that old beast, AOS4 & A1, that's what i want :)

Cheers

I don't know wich version is bundled with AmigaForever, if it's not WinUAE 0.8.2.2R4, then download it & use that one, it'll use the rest of AmigaForever.

You are refering to amiga formatted SCSI drives? If so, I am looking on UAE and winUAE websites not not seeing it mentioned. :/

UAE could do this since like, forever. Linux already supports FFS and can mount it for UAE.

Yep, Linux could do it forever. Which I've known. And which has made it all the more frustrating over the past few years ; } Every once in awhile I've written Bat and asked him, "Do you have it for Amiga Forever yet?"

Amithlon also could read and write Amiga drives with an RDB, straight out of a real Amiga.

The problem is that if you attach an HD with an RDB to a PC, and boot some versions of windows, you can wave goodbye to your RDB, and with it the Amiga partitions...

In reply to Comment 17 (Peter Gordon):
That would be Win9x. It's fixable, for example Amithlon automatically fixes it upon bootup..

WinUAE only allows you to read Amiga formatted hard drives under NT based Windowsen, so you don't get the Win9x corrupting RDB problem there.

Get this!

I have Amithlon and ended up switching to Amiga Forever. The first reason is I wanted to support an Amiga product/emulation that still is under development. The second reason is I had less problems with Amiga Forever. I have a newer Geforce TI 4200 video card and Audigy2 sound card. Yes, I know these aren't fully supported in Amithlon but it's nice to actually be able to use newer hardware. It's a 2200+ Athlon XP system with 768MB of RAM. It works great for the Amiga and is 10-15x faster then my A4000T 060 system.

Amithlon automatically restores the damaged RDB.

Bernie is a clever guy.

it is a fantastically clever emulation package, and I would vastly prefer it over a real (old) amiga, except not a version yet properly emulates the MMU, and you need it to run linux/m68k.

there are experimental patches for MMU support, but those also don't run linux m/68k.

hey I know you can run real linux on a pc, but that won't help me with what I am doing....I need the MMU!

I own Amiga Forever since it was first released (ended up buying two copies)....just would be nice if UAE would get full MMU support...what with them doing the impossible time and time again, I'm hopeful they will do this too someday.

I thought he explained...

I don't know what he's doing that makes running linux/m68k so crucial, but if that's what he wants to do he needs that MMU emulation.
