Why in the hell would anyone want a load of old A500s anyway?

maybe if you empty the boxes you could give them to homeless midgets to live in.

Maybe you can convince NASA to buy them from you. Tell them they are really rare and sell them for $200 a piece.

Why are they crap? They're a real classic machine. I have one in my collection ( http://www.old-computers.com/club/collectors/ordis.asp?c=232 ), but its all beaten up, and only works when it wants to.

I'd love to get hold of a couple of unused ones :)

Sold quite a few 500s in the day, though I concentrated on pro and semi-pro clients who bought big-box Amigas and stuffed them with cards. Lots of people thought A500 was more transportable for video or music or whatever but the A500s were always having connector problems which a twist of the case (and circuit board would often correct. Then later, the customer would slightly tension the case diagonally and it'd need re-tweaking.

Never did like that form factor as much as a result ... and then therr was that clunky outboard power supply to add to the octopus fray for anybody who hooked much up. The big boxes were much cleaner for expansion and semi-portable use.

Sure the big boxes are better for professional use; but its the wedgies that made Amiga popular. If it wasn't for the 500, the Amiga wouldn't have been anywhere near as successful as it was.

They were cool once..many years ago, now they're just plain old crap, useless lumps of plastic and silicon.

Must've got them for free, can't see anyone actaully paying to own one anymore.

I think its sad that you cannot see worth in something simply because it is not state of the art. Maybe when you grow up, you will see things differently.

I'm not being sad the person thats sad is the one who purchased these A500s.

What possible use could someone have for these is what I'm asking, how is that sad? I'm just realistic! They're obsolete, plain and simple.

Peter, buying one or two at most for setimental value is fine, but buying a load in the double digit region IE 10-99 is plain silly far as I can see.

I can only think that he will try to sell them on to collectors to make a little profit. I'd expect them to be splattered all over Ebay shortly.

In reply to Comment 14 (Peter Gordon):
True, Peter, the wedgies sold in bigger numbers. As a dealer I would know that ; } ...The price gap between the boxes and the wedgies gave many of us the feeling that CBM was into extortion. You could have a too-easy-to-flex version with some odd expansion caveats and a big line-lump power supply that was a PITA, or you could pay up the whazzoo for something that expanded in a cleaner fashion and could take major road abuse (but also weighed a ton).

Man, did we want something like other portables of the day!

And if he did, would there be anything wrong with that? Besides, have you ever heard of a concept called investment? What do you think ONE Amiga500 brand new in the box would be worth to a collector in say, 20 years?
