I've ported TTEngine, the TrueType text rendering engine, to MorphOS. Native PowerPC version is about 150 to 200% faster compared to emulated 68k one. Download it from TTEngine home page. Ported and tested on Pegasos I (G3 600 MHz).

Well some software use ttengine for displaying fonts (particularly some 68k softwares). So it can be helpful to have a speed boost in font rendering for them :)

TTEngine 6.4 for MorphOS : Comment 5 of 7 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Grzegorz Kraszewski on 11-Jun-2003 11:33 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (Peter Gordon): Personally I am not satisfied with features and quality of built-in MOS FreeType engine. It is still limited by old diskfont.library API. It has no gamma correction. It has no Unicode support. I think default MOS engine is great, because it allows for TrueType smoothed fonts in any legacy application. Some applications however may want to use TTEngine enchanced features. |

Text support in different kind of graphic programs for instance? |

TTEngine 6.4 for MorphOS : Comment 7 of 7 | ANN.lu |
Posted by mahen on 11-Jun-2003 14:55 GMT | In reply to Comment 5 (Grzegorz Kraszewski): Well, I'm sure the entire amiga OS 3.x has tons of restrictions; some of them were removed in the current A/Box, but for some of them, we'll have to wait for new APIs...
Anyway, I thought the anti-aliased fonts in MOS were pretty good...
What about unicode ? What is planned ? |
