Supporting potential amateurs, eh?
If any amateurs are involved, it's the "people with a long history" who have written this "press release". Incidentally, it's the only mp3 player that can't play without skipping on my BlizzardPPC @ 175 MHz.

I don't have similar problems with it, but it seems to be the only mp3-player for Amiga with working streaming capabilities.

Kudos for developers!

Amazing !! Great !!

Definitely the best player, by far :) This version corrects all the problems I had & brings much more.

Big big thanks to #AmigaZeux. Great work.

You obviously missed the point of the pressrelease.

Read some more of our past pressreleases to understand what they are about.

Amplifier streams just fine and has been doing so for quite some time now.

Good points:

Plays more MP3s than some other players (e.g. Songplayer and MP3s with junk at the start or very long ID tags).
Very nice looking.
CPU-time friendly considering what it does.
Uses MUI so the GUI works properly.

Bad points:

It is eating my apostrophy key inputs :) Typing "it`s" properly stopped the currently playing track.
It just crashed on exit...

All considered, it will be replacing SongPlayer, which Ive used for years now..

Is anyone working on a similar player for Real Audio? The BBC and many other internet radio sites use this.

Yes, I know it's difficult.

In reply to Comment 8 (Don Cox):
MPlayer supports this. Possibly through Win32 codecs.
I guess it could be possible to port MPlayer to AmigaOS and have an x86 emulator run the codecs in order to play real, asf, wmv etc. - I'm not a programmer though, so I can't tell if it's technically feasible.

It's certainly a nice player.

In reply to Comment 9 (Jimmy Olson):
MPlayer is already available for MorphOS, so a AmigaOS port should be
possible also.

AmiNetRadio Rulez! Nice round edges on MOS :)))
Only my information field is totally grey with this version,
i hope it some sort of self-fixable font problem..

Bye,
Felix.

In reply to Comment 9 (Jimmy Olson):
Considering MPlayer supports asf and wmv already through the opensource libavcodec (ffmpeg project), you don't need an emulation for those, and additionally MPlayer supports the external LinuxPPC RealPlayer codecs, so with some effort it would be possible to use those instead (ie, no emulation necessary at all), like Frogger already does btw...

MPlayer (after xine, and now libavcodec too) also recently got native (ie, no external codecs) support for the old RealAudio1&2 codecs thanks to <shamelessplug>The Amiga Alternative Audio Page - http://www.honeypot.net/audio/ </shamelessplug>... ;))

Of course we're amateurs, you dumbass! We don't get paid for ANR! Thats the definition of "amateur". Buy a dictionary and see.

And if you can't take a joke, it's time to join the Mac userbase. Bye. :)

But IIRC they were not written by Amiga authors but taken from other sources (one codec was posted anonymously to USENET).

BTW, I have been working on getting a FFMPEG based player working on the Amiga. It's currently slow, *very* hackish (writes directly to my gfx card video mem :) but already plays every AVI/MPG/WMV/ASF I have to hand.

In reply to Comment 14 (Paul Hill):
Yes, that's correct, those sources are based on anonymously donated code, which was maintained and tweaked by Teknique, and later by me, optimizing the RealAudio2 codec abit, making a better player, and finally adding RealAudio3 support (and improving the player even more. ;) )...

Teknique owns honeypot, and I've taken over the maintaining of the audio page since quite some time now .. unfortunately I haven't had much time for it lately because of other projects which take most of my time nowadays, or I would have added more stuff there these days (interesting codecs pop up all the time)... :P

...so....

How about a RealAudio.player ? a mplayer.player ? Can't the .player
API in ANR support such features, just like it's possible to play
video files in WinAmp ?
