AmigaFest 2003, the show within a show @ the Dayton Fall Computerfest®
AmiTech-Dayton Amiga User Group is again organizing AmigaFest, the show within a
show at the Dayton Fall Computerfest®. Computerfest® is August 23 and 24 at the
Hara Conference and Exhibition Center, 1001 Shiloh Springs Road, Dayton, Ohio.
This will be the fourth year for AmigaFest, however, it is taking on added importance
this year since there is no Amiga only show in the eastern half of the country this year.
For that reason we want to expand AmigaFest this year to maximize the exposure of the
new generation of Amiga and Amiga-like systems, particularly the Amiga One/OS-4 and
Pegasos/MorphOS systems to the general public.
For the average Amigaphile, AmigaFest/Computerfest® will have, not only, a good
selection of Amiga Gear available, but a broad range of computer gear of all types,
many at fantastic prices.
For potential Amiga exhibitors, Computerfest® is a big show and will draw 30,000
people, many of whom are Amigafiles so it is provides, not only, an opportunity for sales
of of your stock of current Amiga equipment, but an excellent platform to expose these
new systems to the maximum audience.
For more information about the overall show see the Computerfest® web site,
http://www.computerfest.com . If you are interested in the AmigaFest portion of the show please
contact me by email.

Amigafest 2003 at Computerfest : Comment 1 of 6 | ANN.lu |
Posted by kevin orme on 06-Jul-2003 02:32 GMT | did you guys get a committment from anyone to show OS4 on an Amiga? Since you're almost a month later than AmiWest, I'd think it should be possible, anyway. The AmiWest PR email today indicated they will be showing it on an A4000 with a PPC card in it, does anyone in your group have one of those?
Given that your show (I'd been there a couple years ago) is much bigger due to all the various computer booths, etc. there, I'd think the potential for non-amiga people to see, ask and learn about OS4 is much greater than AmiWest - that's no dis on AmiWest, it's just not a broad-based computer show at a large fairgrounds the way the Dayton show is.....

Posted by Daniel Miller on 06-Jul-2003 09:34 GMT | In reply to Comment 2 (Daniel Miller): Oops, I should have responded to the original article. Response 1 was only concerned with OS4. If he wants to know about OS4 he should hear about OS4. I hope OS4 will be there as I would kind of like to see it myself. It would even be nice to see some sort of shrinkwrapped OS4 for sale.

There is a show "Alternative Computing 2003" scheduled in October in DC area. Amiga users/developers/vendors are being sought out and welcomed. It is true it is not "Amiga-only" but the last show in DC area was not Amiga-only either, it was "Amiga and Alternative Expo." However I definitely agree that it's important to get out there in Ohio and everywhere else possible! |

Posted by kevin orme on 06-Jul-2003 14:46 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (Daniel Miller): right - I've seen MorphOS and it's still a work in progress (Bolton Peck has shown his Pegasos at a number of our AMUSE club meetings over the past few months). I wanna see OS4 running, anywhere, if on an AmigaOne or A4000/PPC, I don't care....

Posted by FWd Computing on 08-Jul-2003 22:14 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (Daniel Miller): How about some info on the DC area Alternative Computing Show? We at FWD Computing will of course be at the AmigaFest in Dayton, Ohio in August...but for October our only scheduled show is a Sci-Fi Con outside of St. Louis , Mo. for the month of October. Would be nice to make both.
This will be only the second time we will miss being at AmiWest. Good show normally but too little info on it back when we needed the data to make a decision on what shows for the month of July. Folks really need to start promoting their shows many months sooner than they do. A few months is not enuff time for those who make a living at this. Wish them the best though, and would love to see both OS4 demoed at Dayton as well as see a live Pegasus.
Cheers,
Frank |
