The AmigaOS 4.0 Powerpoint presentation that was displayed in Montlaur on saturday the 5th is now available. This document was displayed to the amigans in Montlaur, France last saturday. It is a snapshot of the work in progress on AmigaOS 4.0.

We hope this will help you understand what was realised, and what still needs to be done.

Please note that the list of PPC modules is growing everyday (and I mean everyday : This morning we received icon.library).

The file is available as a PowerPoint presentation (original file), a PDF file, and a set of JPEG images. This is a french document, so please feel free to translate it.

Please, this is a bit much. Certainly the MorphOS team uses a number
of other operating systems and programs to work with. Hopefully not
Powerpoint, though. :-)

Oh for f*cks sake.

Any old excuse to bring in the "MorphOS is better than AmigaOS argument". So Powerpoint was used to do a presentation - well that obviously means MorphOS is the TRUE successor to AmigaOS and AmigaOS is done by non-amigans and is shite!

Ever feel you're reading too much into this?

It's pathetic - rather than reading and discussing the content of the presentation people choose to bitch about the software used to create it; even though alternative versions of the presentation exist. Diversion tactics anybody?

It's saddening to see what a joke most of the Amiga community has become.

..as anyone who lives at the sharp end of things will say...if things really
have hit the fan...theres nothing better than a plain, text-based tool
that doesnt rely on ANY OS libraries to do its job. I would like to see
text-based versions of PartitionWizard and MediaToolbox (a la fdisk)

I'm afraid i agree with you. people using the data format excuse
to wipe out any chance of decent conversation about the actual CONTENTS
of the presentation!!

myself, i didnt touch a single piece of M$ software to view the presentation...nope

OpenOffice read the .ppt file fine.... and AmiPDF opened the PDF file on my Amiga
when i got home

>I agree with the people who made negative comments about the fact that this
>presentation is in Powerpoint.

Well... I don't.

While I do agree that the "good old spirit" is far more present in MorphOS than in Amiga Anywhere, I don't think that has anything to do with using PowerPoint in an OS4 presentation. Obviously OS4 has a lot to do with the "good old spirit" regardless of the presentation tools used. Let us use the tools that fit and do the job, not hamper ourselves further by trying for the maximum sentimental value.

As far as I understood, the presentation was done by a volunteer that travelled a long way to present it (do correct me if I am wrong) and this makes me feel as I do even stronger. If somebody, be that somebody advocating any of the available solutions, goes to these lengths to support the community, he/she can surely use any tools he wants to, has easy access to and know how to use.

When we had the Pegasos/MorphOS demo in Oulu, Finland last year, I travelled 600 km by train with my Windows laptop to help with the Internet connectivity at the meeting (obviously we used the laptop for more than just the Genesi demo, but we used it with that too). I doubt the people on the receiving end of the IRC/audio/webcam feed from Genesi's visiting team minded that we used my laptop for the purpose. And why should they have? They were happy to get the info they got. And we were happy to provide it for them with the tools we had.

Use the tools that are available, accessible, reliable, you know how to use and get the job done. If we would have had to use Amiga's, the Internet feed probably would not have happened - I didn't have required machines and volunteers for this kind of stuff are pretty rare these days.

There are far more poignant arguments to make within the current extended Amiga community, ones that really deserve our attention and debate. Please, let us not spoil and diminish those by nitpicking on every insignificant detail.

For once, I agree with Ben Hermans. This is a silly debate.

If by any mean you didn't had HTML on your Amiga you would be bugging because the pages weren't on amigaguide system... if they're on pdf and jpeg and you're still arguing, I only have to ask what is your agenda and against whom...

After seeing this thread after all is about file types, I have to say that that AmigaOS 4 indeed 'rockz' as no one brags about it lacks (if anything), only about the presentation format and only here and then about the less important thing - looks... so it seems that AOS4 is in the right track, keep it going folks!

Janne, I typed a long response to you but Firebird crashed taking the response with it, so I basically accept that as a sign and am not going to recreate it. Maybe I overstated the significance of promoting OS4 with Microsoft applications however it is not totally without significance either. Thanks for writing.

No PowerPoint, but the current morphos feature list for example was done with
Word (ok, on MacOS X).
http://www.pegasosppc.com/files/morphos-full-features-list.pdf

I don't see a problem here. Use whatever works best at least for you).

Number one it's a PDF which is an Adobe format which is not Microsoft.
Number two it was saved on a Mac which is an alternative system which is not Intel or Microsoft.
