AmiWest banquet speakers have been confirmed. Past years we have seen Amiga Inc. representatives, but this time a panel of community notables will speak: Bill Buck of Genesi, Kurt Grach of Mr. Hardware, Jens Schoenfeld of Individual Computers and Kermit Woodall of ImageFX fame will moderate. One other participant remains, who will participate if the airplane lands in time.

I wonder who this is? I bet the plane doesn't land in time!

I wish I could attend amiwest, but I'd literally have to quit my current job (which honestly I would love to do at this point) because I don't think I will be able to book time off to attend.

I sure hope there will be more shows like this in Sept/Oct with banquets.. I'll hopefully be able to do a better job getting time off to attend... ;-)

just so long as it is not rockin'. That would make it a right bugger to land!

Hey, do you think this final surprise guest will ask the court to process the case against him quickly so he can make it to the banquet on time?

Nice lineup of interesting people! The only missing part would be Ben Hermans. Is he the one on the plane?

If its a transatlantic flight then you are currently looking up to at an hour and a half at the other side of landing as an EU citizen in a US main airport to get processed and out. So I am not suprised that this rider was added.

Ben Hermans or Alan Redhouse would be good. We'd get an update on either OS4's progress or the new AmigaOne, and both would be flying in from Europe.

Just posted this information on MorphOS-News...

Raquel and I are looking forward to being there along with the entire Genesi-USA team. We will be flying direct from Paris to LA with a connection to Sacramento the same day.

We may be a bit tired, but we will be there! :-D

We will also have an AmiWest ONLY Superbundle First Edition CD-package that we will be giving away to all Pegasos owners that turn out for the Show. Simultaneously, the SuperBundle will be available *at no cost* via FTP for all Pegasos owners, including Phoenix Phreeboard participants, beginning that weekend. We will be announcing our plans for the SuperBundle and the Pegasos II at the Show. Of course, we will have plenty of MorphOS T-Shirts to give away too...;-)

And, one more thing...we will have the 1Ghz G4 Pegasos there. Details on the G4 release will be posted to PegasosPPC on 15 July. MorphOS 1.4 will also be released in conjunction with the Show.

See you there!

Best regards,
Raquel and Bill

That's an okay idea to have a panel of speakers. I don't know why we are going to play mystery guest on the late-arriving plane. It has all the signs of "jerk everybody around and fail to appear at the last minute citing unavoidable, unlucky circumstances but the best intentions."

I know that Jens has made all kinds of Amiga hardware for ages, and that BBRV's credentials speak for themselves in that they have fielded a new PPC computer, and that Kermit does the enduring ImageFX etc. and has hosted shows before, but what is Kurt Grach's major accomplishment(s)?

Hi Daniel

I assume they meant no harm...but I had the same reaction too 'mystery guest' too. Maybe in Marketing 101 this is a good idea. Maybe they just wanted really bad to announce something but were asked not too.

Regardless, this type of announcement has become very aggravating in this community! I felt it too. If they cannot announce something, SAY NOTHING.

I mean that as constructive criticism for anyone considering doing a partial announcement. I personally, probably others too, would rather you just said nothing.

No more "i've got a secret, but I'm not going to tell you, nanny nanny boo boo"
it's old.

Finally, to the person who announced the mystery guest, you do know you have an absolute responsibility, after the show...to post to all the exact same places and make sure everyone knows who the guest is...

Petro's mistake was to hand out Amiga mousepads as a substitute for development. Genesi hands out merchandise to promote new hardware.

Kurt is the technical guy at Mr. Hardware Computers who are one of the US distributors for the AmigaOne. They are representing AmigaOne at the behest of Hyperion and Eyetech who could not personally make it to the show.

There's really no great mystery about the 'if the plane lands in time' guest. We invited Jeri Ellsworth to personally talk about her Commodore-One - but Jens reports that her plane may not arrive in time and since he is working with her on it, he can represent it for her.

As well as moderating I will also have some interesting news as well!

Perhaps the moderator can broach the topic of coopetition between the various camps. People keep repeatedly pleading with Genesis and Amiga to forge a better 'working' relationship to share technologies and stop bad mouthing one another in public forums.

The only way I can see for Genesi and Hyperion to work together is if Amiga Inc dies RSN. The idea of a computer and OS being created and tied together by three seperate companies was a real bad idea to begin with. If Hyperion is free to sell their work to whomever, then I can see a business relationship between Genesi and Hyperion, but not before.

Dont know why Bill's not going, though he does have court on that Friday as part of the suit with Matt, and he doesn't have any money according to letters he keeps writing, and he also has to avoid suboena's at the moment, but I am sure none of that has anything to do with why Bill is not attending Amiwest. I'm sure Gary or Fleecy or Ray is going instead right?? Oh yeah, they arent coming either. And don't worry Fleecy told everyone 6 months ago that all the issues with the T-Shirt were resolved and you'd be getting them real soon, its only 6 months since that time, real soon is alot longer then 6 months if you are Scottish, everyone knows that.

That is absolutely not true!

We do want OS4 runing on the Pegasos...IF it ever really runs on PPC!

We do not mean that badly, just factually.

...and please forgive us with all due respect -- Ben IS a legal clerk. He has a degree; it is true. BUT, he does NOT practice law. He works as an associate and as an assistant. Ben, alone, does NOT practice law.

Now....having said that, we think Ben, as a person is intelligent and enterprising.

We hope that OS4 is completed, because it should be evident now that its future is exclusively with the Pegasos.

We will welcome them.

Sincerely,

Raquel and Bill

Pray tell what you mean by this comment? That OS4 should exist on a motherboard with severe memory access problems, as opposed to the AmigaOne which works fine? (Although u'd love people to believe otherwise would you not?) Or do you mean the Peg2?

BBRV says:

> We hope that OS4 is completed, because it should be evident now that
> its future is exclusively with the Pegasos.

That remark will cause commotion among the usual suspects, but it is what I
was thinking myself just the other day. OS4 advocates, you really shouldn't
disrespect the Pegasos too much because it is quite likely that your dream
OS is going to end up running there, and you will end up owning one. And
it's not because Genesi is going to knuckle under and apply for an "OS4
license" (LOL!) it is because Hyperion and/or whoever are going to come to
their senses and realize it is the best business move for them. They can sell
their OS in a shrinkwrap box to the true believers and make good money and a
future doing so. They can sell it for $200, that's what E-Commerce Station
does (the descendant of OS/2 Warp).

But then it is really to early to be talking about this at all. Let them
actually release something that runs on a PPC-only computer, and then we'll
revisit it. The advance marketing campaign for OS4 has been running for more
than two years and it is getting ridiculous.

As for the tired allegations that Bill Buck insulted Ben Hermans that's just
bull again. I was a shipping clerk a few years ago. You think I would be
mortified and insulted if someone said "Daniel Miller is a shipping clerk?"
Heck no, it is just a factual statement. You think I tried to play myself
up then with a made-up title like "executive logistics coordinator?" No!
People need to get over themselves. There's nothing wrong with being a
frickin' clerk. This stuff really chaps my hide.

There are no private sector legal clerks in the Belgian judiciary system.

This is a typical American construct Bill picked up, probably when watching Alley Mcbeal.
