I believe it will be a package containing pretty much everything you need to start using your new computer (in many thinkable ways), without having to download a lot of software from the Internet the first thing you do. I think it will contain a lot of tested aminet shareware software, conveniently packaged on a CD, with some licensed commercial software added aswell (like for instance ProStationAudio Titanium).

I believe this is a good thing. Bundling software like this will be needed if you aim for a market outside our little community - not everyone out there has heard of Aminet, or know the names of the applications they should search for.

Whatever it's in it, I think that the first release is somewhat of a "test release" towards us in the community (to get some feedback), and that there might be future revisions of it too ...

You are right!

Our intention is to grow the FTP access like Aminet, having the SuperBundle always there and a mechanism when you login to update automatically.

"and a mechanism when you login to update automatically."

what, like this:

"bash-2.05b$ su
Password:
p00ter:/home/daniel# apt-get -y update && apt-get -y dist-uprade
Hit http://non-us.debian.org unstable/non-US/main Packages
Get:1 http://non-us.debian.org unstable/non-US/main Release [89B]
Hit http://non-us.debian.org unstable/non-US/contrib Packages" .. ;)

However ... such a system would introduce a software/package database which is fine in a system that has a decent filesystem structure but AmigaOs and clones are a bit more free flowing :\

Are you going to add features to installer to register software in the system, so that it can be located and updated? otherwise its going to be a case of scanning the whole system for possible targets or forcing software into one specific location which isn't really a good solution.

It would also be nice if it registered software versions and downloaded patches (the *BSD's ports systems are very good at this) instead of the whole thing over and over aswell, oooo and it could manage the config files and allow for complete purging of software :)

A "dynamic target" just like current and past MOS versions were (= unfinished, lacking)?

How is "Air France-gate" by the way? What about your first fire and brimstone lawsuit agains Amiga? So surprised that we havent heard about how you are "On schedule and rocking" in that regard? How IS that going?

Can you please bring me a lawsuit tee shirt to AmiWest? I may not shine your arse like Greenboy or Alkiss with your free tee shirts, but I would appreciate it.

Oh yes, fleeced or fluffed? Nah, shaken, not stirred. Get out of France Bill, you are starting to swound like Alkiss.

ha! i laugh at your Debian and its feeble apt-get system ;-)

seriously, its the best Linux tool, but pails into weakness
when put up against the *BSD ports system :-)

ps its just

1>apt-update
2>apt-upgrade

pps i've always wanted AmigaOS to have a decent package management tool..one
where you can just run the update...and it checks against the repository
and informs you if theres a new version etc.... this could actually be done
against AmiNET with a few extra tags on aminet files and another INDEX file

Better then a piss weak RPM system :)

Gentoo has ports ... But I have better things to do then spend days installing a base system :)

Debian is really an explorers OS ... theres so much stuff that you never notice, like all the nice config tools in there, you just have to find out about them :)

They (Hyperion, the MorphOS peeps etc) could add some functionality to installer that registers software installs and their version in a flat file database (XML using the application.library in os4 maybe) and you could use a client to check your versions against the latest available and download newer installers if updates are available, Much like Redcarpet or VersionTracker. I'd hate to see a system that scans all your drives to find target applications and then screws them up by patching the wrong files etc tho.
