Tulip Computers (Netherlands), owner of the brand name "Commodore" on about to sell games for the 6 millions of C64 computers still used in the world (for the emulators also???) and to prevent any other organizations to use the name "Commodore"! As seen on PCWord

If they own the name in association with computers and computer related products then good for them. How does this effect the Amiga? Commodore Amiga won't exist guess they'll have to call it the Amiga AmigaOne. |

Posted by Anonymous on 15-Jul-2003 16:55 GMT | well, this really f**ks up the C= One project does it not?
Sounds like someone got a whiff of possible opportunity
and want to squeeze it for all its worth.....people buying
C64 games? more like C64 classics being made to run under
some emulation on modern hardware (read phones and PDAs) |

Posted by Jens Schönfeld on 15-Jul-2003 22:58 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (Anonymous): The C-One project is not in danger, as we're not using the name Commodore. C-One can be so much more! Apple-One, Atari-One, Sinclair-One - any 8-bit machine you can think of. That's why we decided not to use the name "Commodore", as it would limit the marketing.

Posted by Anonymous on 16-Jul-2003 08:44 GMT | In reply to Comment 2 (Anonymous): It does not affect Amiga. Amiga has not been Commodore since 1995 when Escom bought it. Eg. My A1200 is Escom Amiga, not Commodere even if original A1200 was designed by Commodore.
And why you could not call Amiga just an Amiga and not "xyz Amiga" |

But afaik, that doesn't mean, they would own rights to most games... |

Posted by idle on 17-Jul-2003 22:06 GMT | It will be interesting to see if they are actually going to support real hardware ONLY or if they will release downloads. I for one have several real C=64's and 128's which I would prefer to run games on. Emulators suck. especially on my laptop with it's tiny arrow keys.. there's nothing like the feel of bashing a digital joystick.
if they release downloadable versions only, I wonder if sales of XE1541 cables will increase... |

Seemed you missed the humor or rhetoricaliness of the question. It was meant to be silly of course you aren't going to scratch the name Commodore Amiga off of your Amiga case and of course Amiga Inc. isn't going to call their machine the Amiga AmigaOne. |
