Here's a collection of almost all the available PPC demos for amiga.

amiga ppc demo database

Too bad there are some mistakes. (AFAIK, MWI - Own Love Balance
doesn't require Warp3D).

Too bad too they don't mention demos running on the Pegasos.

Anyway, good initiative guys, it's only the beginning, it'll get
better in time.

In reply to Comment 1 (Rafo):
"they don't mention demos running on the Pegasos"

Then it would not be "PPC demos for amiga" database.

But perhaps it's too short sighted name for a database... or perhaps the name is deliberately restricting...

In reply to Comment 2 (priest):
after quick look around the site ... do they restrict?

In reply to Comment 2 (priest):
since what you actually code for on the pegasos is the abox, cybergfx and ahi i think you could say it's demos for amiga anyway. To me pegasos+morphos is as much the future amiga as amigaone+amigaos4, if not even more.

Seriously, except from the name the "amiga" technologies isn't any more amigalike than genesis approach.

In reply to Comment 4 (Hagge):
yep yep, Genesi approach can be as (or even more) amigalike as Hyperion's.

Not getting deeper into that.

But IMHO: if the demo is for peg only, it's clerly not Amiga demo, but if it runs by using MOS on Amiga HW, it is Amiga demo. If it runs on A1 by using AmigaOS, it's Amiga demo, but if it runs on A1 on top of linux (only), it would be a heresy to call it "Amiga demo", etc... But that is just my personal & humble opinnion.

In reply to Comment 1 (Rafo):
It could be that the guy doesn't have a Peg to test them on, so he can't really say (demos tend to push the envelope, so "it's compatible" doesn't guarantee anything).

How about some enterprising ppl download them, try them out and give the guy some feedback (eg "I'm running MOS 1.3 on an April1 mobo with a Voodoo 3, and it works great right up until the rotozoomer ~150 seconds into the demo, then the screen goes all weird and it hangs")

Rather OT:

Are there any cool "scene" demos that only require CGFX/P96
and don't need a PPC? Just curious... :)

In reply to Comment 1 (Rafo):
If you need a database of Pegasos demoes, why don't you make your own? Respect that not everyone want "Amiga (like)" (TM).

In reply to Comment 8 (Olegil):
My "demos that run on Pegasos" didn't mean "demos that work ONLY on

I mean, the guy mentions the compatibility with Mediator hardware,
it'd be as good to mention compatibility with Pegasos hardware too.

OK I admit the guy perhaps doesn't have access to a Pegasos to
test them.

Check http://www.gfxbase.com/database/cgxdemos.shtml for example... although it hasn't been updated for ages. Check for new Ephidrena demos too.. like Fake electronic lightshow.

In reply to Comment 10 (pVC):
as a answer to all the negative talks in this thread,
it does say 1 thing in the project site , WE DO NEED feedback from all systems i dont have , we published the site in order to "THINK" people wasnt smart asses like seen in here today..

its supposed to be a complete AMIGA ppc demo db , its not saying pegasos ,its not saying amigaone..., anyway it seems the pegasos people in here have a prob with us calling it an amiga ppc demo db, you would us call it pegasos db then??

you are supposed to EMAIL me info if they work and more info etc, either stop slaggin off the site here or start working, you cant expect that 1 guy have all the ever made amiga's, and as i told on the site... no one really helped us except for 2-3 peoples and we have worked hard on this...

all i can say, THANX! for the very nicely done posts in here, really did me well...

rafo: well we typed w3d as its a w3d demo , if u have a lower system than voodoo3 then u will get it in sw mode, i dont have a bvision, cvision etc it was tested on a system with cgx just to see that it worked under it,thats all and the guy who tested hadnt seen the w3d version so obviously he belived it was only sw mode , so basically i ignored that in the db for now....
its supposed to be updated regulary, its by no means final at this point.

anyone wants to give support or help out, send an email...

I gotta say that it's a little sad that from all the comments on all the sites, this is the only place where we got a negative spin on the comments.

Toaks busted his ass putting together the archives and testing the demos.. I've done my part too.. I'm not a star when it comes to doing html, but we got something up, something that alot of people has had fun with. I know, I'm sitting here skimming through the logs right now.

i think it's rather annoying having to click on the information link to see what's the demo is for. My suggestion is to make small logotypes for each of the alternatives and then make a table with something like:

[disk icon for download] [group name] [demo name] [w3d or not icon] [warpos, blizzardppc(?), amigaos4 or morphos] ... and so on.

In reply to Comment 13 (Hagge):
yes, funnily enough, we sorta noticed the same. We wanted to do alot more for the premiere, but since alot of people were requesting it, we released it as is. In a while, we'll do a major face-list of the entire download section.

Amazing how even the best of initiatives can receive negative comments in here, dragging it through another useless Pegasos - Amiga battle.

Aren't the webmasters allowed to include and exclude whatever they feel like?

Anyway, it think it is a good website. Judging by all comments i've seen from PPC users saying that this or that demo doesn't run on his config, i think it was much needed.

Once you will have a database in there, you will be able to do all sorts of cool things, sorting, grouping, ... And more eyecandy would be great :) But i'm sure this is coming up.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind words, z5. And yes, more things will follow as soon as we can. We're workin' on it ;)

Me personally, I kinda like "clean" sites myself, but a little more eyecandy will come... something along the lines that was suggested above by Hagge(thanks, btw).
