The controversial classic 3D shooter appears for MorphOS and Amiga 68K 3.9. This game has excellent play value but is known for violence (monsters explode realistically with lots of blood) and sexual elements (city block includes porno bookstore, later scenes include partially nude women encapsulated in alien slime). 3D Duke. I recall running this game on a Pentium 75, so maybe it will run on a 68060 but I don't think you'll get great performance. On MorphOS it should be fine. However BBRV of Genesi has expressed disapproval of games of questionable morality, IIRC. I think they raised objections to Payback.

that's what brought down the beta video format, not letting porn on it.
maybe buck will make the same mistake in terms of content for the pegasos

WHAT? If I shell out for a nifty high power system, I better damn well be blowing some stuff UP man. prOn, violence, graphical blood, YOU NAME IT!!

Geez!

Haaaa, better late than never. I hope a WarpOS version will apear also!

Allthough Duke Nukem3D was fun, Shaddow Warrior was much more fun.

The sex and violence in the game is a non issue! It was all in good fun and doesn't even look real.

I'm getting sick and tired of some people saying that those violent games like Quake, Unreal Tournament and Desert Combat are a bad influence on children. BULLOCKS. Children understand the difference between a game and the real world. Should the rest of them pay for a few children that don't. Those few children are the problem itself then and should be taken to a psychiater or hospital to find out what is wrong with them.
I'm sorry if this offends someone but the thruth is hard.

I've been playing 3D shooters all my live and I'm mister good guy himself.

"However BBRV of Genesi has expressed disapproval of games of questionable morality, IIRC."

If so, thats not a great stance; considering a vast majority of the top selling games are those that allow you to rip holes in beings of various origins, be it aliens or nazi's. Even worse, any self repecting "geek" (the sort of people that would buy a PPC board) isn't going to sit down and play a session of the sims over RTCW,UT(2003) etc ;).

There's 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 (atomic), 1.3 (atomic), 1.7 (duke it out in dc)

So .. Which one will it work with?

Well, since it says "you need the Atomic edition (older versions won't work)", i'd take that to mean as long as its 1.2 or newer, it should work. AFAIK it only works with the datafiles from the DOS version.

wishing for more spiritually rewarding games and advocating non-violence does not mean automatically that someone has advocated the censorship of games.
The only person that can do a good job of telling you their opinions, is the person themselves, telling them first hand.

For example, I don't think pornography and killing games are all the clever myself....however I wouldn't ban them, even if I could, ...and guess what I can't.

So? You don't think Bill Gates likes anything and everything written for Windows, Steve Jobs anything and everything written for OS X, and Linus Torvalds anything and everything written for Linux, do you?

Who cares what BBRV think or don't think about program/game XYZ?

Bad news mediator owners: the game uses BestCModeIDTags(), which is broken under CGX emulation on mediator boards.

As a temporary bodge, I put a fixed mode ID in, and rebuilt it. The game runs, and all the title sequences work great. However, it gurus when starting a game, or after a few seconds of playing the demos :(

The framerate was pretty low on my 060/Voodoo/Repulse setup.

Features:
o Massive amounts of code rewritten in 68k assembler

why?? they're using GCC 2.95.3 to do the compiling. this can
perform within a 5% boundary of the best 68k asm c0d3rZ
pure C would also make porting eg native MorphOS/WarpUP/OS4
so so much easier.

PS didnt realise Pegasos has a 603! ;-) someone get their
CPU revisions a little mixed! :-) (G3 is one of 750,740, 745,755)

Really? And you got this figure from where? Your head? The fact is, on the 68k line of processors, well written assembly code can make all the difference, especially in this sort of application.

And Dave Pitcher writes he's working on an Amiga OS 4 version.

I note that not one Macintosh user complained about the missing music from Simon2. I feel the amiga users that complained did so less because of missing the music and more because we said "Amiga is too poor at MIDI playback" - they want to prove a point.

ya dont take out the music bacause you think its anoying, as a commercial release the port shouldhave remained intact. Soft midi playback isnt all that esource consuming. gmplay supprt with a wrapper wouldhave worked or other solutions like doomsoundlibrary. The choice wouldhave been nice .

It is on 68K when you have chunky->planar going on on an AGA system.

> gmplay supprt with a wrapper wouldhave worked

The music sounded horrendous with GMPlay plus it would not have worked easily controlling GMPlay from the CLI in the background.

> or other solutions like doomsoundlibrary.

I wasn't aware of doom's sound library and anyway, doom doesn't use standard MIDI files.

Timidity also didn't exist on the amiga, and unless the author of the amiga port has released his source, it is a violation of the GPL.

> The choice wouldhave been nice

It was a small inconsequental part of the game. Mac users didn't complain. I belive the amount of moaning from the Amiga community over this issue was simply because we said "Amiga isn't good enough at MIDI".
