AmiNetRadio (at least version 2.56) (md5sum: 03908e363c05cb14a7b2949d3cda3ce2 AmiNetRadio) contain a easter egg that activate during the AmiWest (26th & 27th Jul 2003) between 12.00-22.00. The fullscreen message displayed during this time is "BUY OS4".

After the laugh you may find this joke a bit annoying since it block using ANR during these times.

I've developed a patch against the abovementioned AmiNetRadio 2.56 binary. You can download it from AmiNetRadio-2.56-amiwest.pch (shift-click to save it). The patch disable the date check and the message never appears. To apply, use 'spatch -oAmiNetRadio.new -pAmiNetRadio-2.56-amiwest.pch AmiNetRadio' command.

For the curious mind, here is a picture of the activated egg and disassembly of the trigger code.

Final note: The time is local time. So depending on your timezone, you might only see the message within few hours. You can turn the clock forwards if you want to see it triggered.

So, basically they're saying they don't want their ANR software to be used to listen to any official amiga/Hyperion announcements (at the time when ANR would probably the most users ever).

And then they dress it up as some sneering sarcastic pro-OS4 comment?

I had great respect for these guys for creating such a great program, but this is desperately, desperately lame.

I think you just being paranoid.

What's wrong with a little fun? And this is triggered on MorphOS only anyway, so you classic Amiga won't suffer.

But of course, I knew some guy would come along and tell us how bad we are and how we lost our hard earned respect and other crappy stuff that come to mind when ppl have too much time to think about unimportant things (like creating easter eggs).

It is quite possible to listen to shoutcast streams while this easteregg is present.

In reply to Comment 3 (Cluke):
Sorry to hear that.

I found this egg hilarious.

Also I had some relaxing moments figuring out where it came from and what triggered it (and now that UG said it, I missed one condition: it's MorphOS only).

However, some of us might still want to use the player even during these hours, so that's why I created the patch.

Clarification: The player itself works just fine, but the message prevents using the screen for anything while the message is displayed.

Yeah, agreed... everybody just loosen up! :-) I can also appreciate humour. I hope this was intended in a good-hearted manner too! If so, lets just pass this one with a laugh. Besides, I'm sure many of us would love to buy OS4 if we could. ;--)

On a more serious note, hopefully this kind of thing won't happen too much. It would be unfortunate to see future cross-OS compatibility crippled by intentional attempts.

Lets just say that if you had a meter for detecting desperate lameness, you'd have to hold it a long way away from yourself to get a decent reading with comments like that. :)

Well, ok then, the way I read the comment was that the program would not operate at all during these times. I withdraw my lameness accusation.. ;-)

this is stupid, childish behaviour. from a bunch of coders
who should fix the problems that the program has instead
of adding such 'features' to it.

anyway, not a single chance of running it on MorphOS if
your system bahaves like the Amiwest demo unit!

NO-ONE can say that MorphOS is stable and doesnt have issues
after THAT demonstration and performance. crash city!
boy. no wonder why Bill was so desperate to leave the stage!

What does tthis have to do with AmiNetRadio? And regarding MorphOS - Bill explained that they had been expected to do the presentation at very short notice without having sufficient time to prepare, and that certain items had been damaged in transit from Europe.

yes amiwest caught me by surprise too...maybe they should announce the show in advance next time....I was also surprised to learn that Europe is so far away.

And, come to think of it, I was surprised to see a large shiny ball in the sky this morning, and when I stared at it for hours, it burned my eyes, and now I can barely see.
