An update (v2.07) to the Frogger movie player for every processor outthere is available at its homesite. This update highlight features are, amongst the usual bug fixes, some new codecs, an extended REXX interface and an improved A/V sync in AVIs, seeking in ASF/WMV/WMA.
Furthermore, Toad (a RxMUI Control Panel for Frogger) and VCD Save (a little tool that saves your (S)VCD tracks into a file), are also made available for the download.

Frogger rules. I just registered yesterday, it's the best player for MorphOS by far, and plays way more formats that VLC or Quicktime on my Mac. If it had a gui and a bit more stability, it could be the best player on any computer system.

Perhaps you're looking for mplayer, then (whose plugins Frogger uses):

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/

you can find the OSX version here:

No it doesn't, Frogger uses its own plugins based on libavcodec (and some others), which MPlayer also uses... ;)

Mplayer rocks. Try playing around with the arrow keys while a movie is playing :)

Well, I just can't understand why NOBODY is able to notice a 200ms
desync between video and audio. Frogger always has had this problem,
and even worse, the desync kept growing while playback. I don't know
if it's still the case as I haven't played any long movie with it
right now. But all I can zay is that the 200ms desync is still here
right when the video starts playing. Here's a method to make it really
obvious (like it's not enough right now).

Run a 2D graph program, and draw 10 pictures. Eash one will display
juste a number, from 1 to 10.

Then run a prog like Pinnacle Studio or anything like that on a PC and
make a simple movie in which you'll display one of the 10 pictures
displaying the numbers you've made, every one second.

Grab a little .wav file (something like dong.wav) and make absolutely
sure you play it exactly when each picture is displayed.

The aim of all this is to make a simple movie displaying a number
every second, while a sound is played exactly when a new picture
appears.

Save the movie as MPEG or AVI, doesn't matter the codec you use.

Then, play the movie with mediaplayer under windows. you'll notice the
sound is perfectly sync'ed with video.

Now launch frogger. You'll notice that the sound is played AFTER the
picture is displayed.

Now, for the ones who have mplayer, try it with it. It is exactly the
same.

BUT, in mplayer, you can adjust A/V sync by pressing + or - keys on
the numeric keypad. All you have to do is press - twice (A/V sync =
-200ms), and THEN only, the sound is sync'ed with video.

I have tons of MPEGs and AVIs here, some taken form the internet, some
homemade and this happens EVERYTIME.

A friend of mine, who has worked at SAGEM programming satellite
digital decoders, especially on A/V synchronization, totally agreed.

Oh, and for information, this desync also occurs on MAME. Try
something simple with it : launch a game like Double Dragon, then hit
someone. You'll se the guy hits and only THEM the sound comes. This
doesn't happen on the PC version where sound is sync'ed with video.

<FRENCH>
Pour ceux qui prévoient d'aller à l'Alchimie3 et qui contestent ce que
je viens d'énoncer, ou ne le comprennent pas, je leur en apporterai à
preuve à ce moment-là. </FRENCH>

More to come...

"based" on libavcodec is almost an oxymoron, they _are_ libavcodec stuff, wrapped up in an API suitable to be used as plugins for Frogger. I didn't mean they use the same API for plugins, I just meant they use the same _code_.

And mplayer is free, also as in beer.

Sorry, perhaps euphemism is the right word there :)

Anyway, I'm not trying to discredit Frogger's author, just stating some facts together with some opinions.

Sure, but you made it sound like it used MPlayer plugins or something .. I just wanted to give credit where credit is due, namely to the libavcodec which is an excellent package .. also Frogger has alot of other plugins done by Elf and/or Noe from scratch...

The libavcodec team and the mplayer team greatly overlap each other, there are basically the same guys behind both projects, that's why I said "whose plugins Frogger uses".

Sure, but I didn't say it only uses libavcodec, did I? :)

Glad to see it was made available ;-) I also look forward to fooling around with mplayer. However, I had a blast writing Toad, and look forward to adding a little more to the control panel later!

I configured Magellan so that I can play movieswith Mplayer from it. But I didn't get it to open onto Magellan screen.. if you find a way, tell.

And no, I won't put Magellan as the default pubscreen :)

On the other hand I only tried it briefly... will take a look at it better when I get home.

Well, I like your professional info about the bug...

But... Why don't you tell it to the programmer?

Ciao,

Raffaele

"desync between video and audio"

What version of frogger you've tried? The previous one improved a lot, and this one has improved even further. (I have a long AVI which slightly desyncs with MPlayer under Linux, but not with the newest Frogger.)

I suggest try out the latest one, and if you still have avis with desync, contact the author.

Well, I thought the description and way to reproduce this "annoyance"
(as many people seem to have high tolerance towards synchronization)
was detailed enough.

And to answer your question : another software is doing the job much
better (well, at least A/V sync can be config'ed), and, what's better,
it's FREE, which makes it a total replacement for Frogger.

Oh by the way, the only Shareware soft I know capable of playing
video files with perfect sync is AMP2. It only plays MPEG files. But
it plays them very well (maybe a little too bright IMO).

Unfortunately the interface for MPlayer OS X sucks. For example if you move or rename a movie or a host directory the playlist no longer works.

For a "Mac" app that really bites.

Many people have high tolerance regarding this thing I consider a major bug.

But even if detailed enough... I consider better to mass e-mail the programmer until he correct this bug...

And by the way, I want to thank you for the advice to the community...

Such a bug could change the account of a good software product on every platform it may occours that problem.

Regarding my consideration about Frogger, it changed from "almost semi-professional", to a judgement level of "*amateurish*-only".

I cannot notice any desync while playing a movie with Frogger68k under Amithlon. This version is by far the best version I've had of Frogger.

Rafo: you'll show me this during the Alchimie III :)
