WinUAE-Kaillera enables users of this great emulator WinUAE to play head-to-head and cooperatively over a TCP/IP network, such as the Internet. For this it uses the Kaillera engine, a program developed specifically for enabling emulators to achieve netplay. Hi,

As I can't find any news related to this wonderfull idea, I post it here.

WinUAE-Kaillera best supports games which have two or more (up to eight) players on the visible screen at any one time, including many of those that work split-screen.

The Amiga platform is not short of these types of games, there are literally hundreds like: Kick-Off 2, International Karate +, Cabal....

Get Kaillera-WinUAE to play your favorite games against a human...

For those who are on a Windows system, anyway.

i thought it was for amiga tcp/ip games, but now it doesn't seem so. What does it do? Does uae convert the serial port calls to windows calls and then the app gets them and uses tcp/ip instead?

In reply to Comment 2 (Hagge):
Its not for TCP/IP games, or serial.

All it does is distribute the Amiga joystick ports over a network. So your computer controls joystick port 1 and the other guy controls joystick port 2.

Serial games could be rerouted over the internet (in theory), but I dont think this program does that.

Also, all Amiga TCP/IP games need to work is decent bsdsocket emulation, so it depends on the version of WinUAE ;)

It's only problem is that it's too slow for users of modems or connections up
to 128k.

Yes, it seems some very good ideas like this one are made for Win machines only. Why is it not done for all platforms ? Strange...

Kaillera for Winuae is an old thingie...

It is best used for emulating consoles such as Neo-Geo, Sega, and so on...

I posted about Kaillera for Win-UAE about 2 years ago here on ANN and it was at that time an old news (and experienced ANN readers blamed me for that)...

By the way it seems to me that Kaillera is not updated anymore...

Ciao,

Raffaele

Maybe the people behind UAE could add this feature directly to the emulator...

Well, while UAE is source free, and anybody could personalize it by adding features such as net-playing with kaillera client, you can't do that with kaillera itself.

Because it is proprietary and you must pay to add it to your products...

(Or at least it must be proprietary, if I remember well)

I don't think it costs money, but they don't respect licenses at all.
Their version of MAME violates a few clauses in the license & yet they don't care. It seems to be quite fashionable though, as someone is putting round a version of MAME that can play beatmania that violates the license as the source changes aren't supplied ( beatmania runs on hardware that MAME already supports but it needed the hard drive hooked up etc ).

If I remember well, the client is freely distributable, but if you navigate into their site... there must be a link saying:

[not precise quoting]
>If you want to add kaillera to your products (blah, blah, blah...)

and this is the usual starting statement which means:

***If you want the code we had programmed onto your systems, then be prepared to pay a lot of $$$***

UAE/PPC lacks any socket support.

I've only said this a billion times already
