This is the real Raquel Velasco (Buck) and "Bill Buck" = R&B = bbrv.

David, you did a great job with this and we appreciate it very much.

There are a few shares of Genesi stock with your name on it...;-)

Not to mention a G4 Pegasos II and, and , and....!

Without people like you all these sorts of things would not/could not happen.

Thanks to you and all the Pegasos and MorphOS supporters!!!

:-D

Best regards,
Raquel and Bill
Genesi

Yikes! Slow down guys! You're overwhelming us with accomplishments! Making the rest of us look bad, I told my wife I'd clean the garage a month ago and haven't even gotten around to THAT yet! :)

For all those who want to use a newer GNOME version (rather than 2.2) you can use CVSGnome (from my homepage) which helps you building a new GNOME from either CVS or TARBALLS.

1) grab the script
2) edit PREFIXDIR="" to point to the location you like to install GNOME. E.g. PREFIXDIR="/opt/gnome2" or PREFIXDIR="/home/<yourname>/gnome2" or whatever.
3) run the script and choose either:

'world' to build from CVS or 'world stable' to build from released Tarballs.

This will automagically download all required Tarballs from GNOME's FTP server, unpack them, create a new directoryhierarchy and build GNOME for you in the PREFIX described above. Same is valid for CVS. It will automagically check CVS out and build GNOME for you.

http://www.akcaagac.com/index_cvsgnome.html

The 0.4.3 version is for GNOME 2.3.5 (released last week) and the 0.4.4 is a Testversion with a lot of new updated Tarballs for the upcomming 2.4.0-rc1 candidate (2.3.6). Of course this script is written by me and heavily tested, maintained, checked, updated by me over the past 3 years.

PS: This script can also be used to build other GNOME related software (it acts as wrapper and exports a lot of variables). There are also KDE update and checkout scripts on my webpage as well (also written by me) for those who want to use a bleeding edge KDE system look under tools.

Correction:
"But the versatilty of debian is that you can keep upto date on a regular basis, just by typing "apt-get update""

Not really, you need to follow up with either "apt-get upgrade" or "apt-get dist-upgrade", depending on the severity of the update (if a package forks into two or a new dependency is created only a dist-upgrade will have permissions enough to upgrade the package)

The webpage is the ugliest I've ever seen not made to be ugly on purpose. You should really ask anyone in here for help with it. Beyond that it's probably good, i'll read thru the text ;)

Perhaps it would be a good idea if Genesi sponsored some web hosting? And perhaps a redesign of the webpage as well (รก la pegasosppc.com and morphos.net)? IMO, this should be done for all the OS'es; it would give a feeling of homogeneity.

"Great!"

So Linux on the AmigaOne isn't a *real os* but it is on the pegasos, must be that superior hardware; I hear you can even upgrade your CPU now, thats some advanced shit.

In reply to Comment 11 (corpse):
Linux on pegasos is just a bonus for us, amigans, but I couldn't live with just that personally :) But it's very important for people outside the amiga community.

As for the G4 upgrade for Peg I, it had been said a long time ago that there would be some problems due to Articia, and I could verify it myself on an A1.

-download-section is pointing to the not so well running old 2.4.18 on the
PegLinsite, althought Sven Luther did a very good 2.4.21 long time ago - why?

-the webdesign really should be reworked very much, maybe it only looks so
bad, because I am using Aweb ATM (?)

-I appreciate the work, but would appreciate it far more, if those
diffs are merged to the Debian-unstable-distribution instead of forking
of another distribution (if I get all this right)

-yahoo as a hoster? No good idea IMHO, why not sourceforge?

This is being discussed by Genesi and Phoenix people. Something will be worked out soon that should please everybody.

I'm pleased with the current situation to, i don't care that much about design as i do in content. It's just that i thought a white plain page with black text an a few links would be more easily navigated. On the other side who am i to critisism(uhm, dunno how to say it in english).

In reply to Comment 18 (Hagge):
Yes, I'm not so worried about the design either. I like "unusual" web sites. ;-) Like you, I think content is the main thing. Especially the download procedure should be smooth and reliable, and support information should be available, etc.
