More official screenshots from Hyperion are now available at the AmigaWorld.net community portal. These shots demonstrate the debugging capabilities under AmigaOS 4. Two programs are involved in this: The Grim Reaper and gdb.

Does this mean that those flashing Guru mediation requesters
are removed completely from the system? Ahhh, that's a relief:)

I have to admit that these Screenshots look really polished. The window decorations really caught my attention. Also the colors choosen for Reaction (?) are pretty nice. Let's see the endproduct.

It does indeed use Reaction but that wasn't really the idea behind these screenshots.

I guess you need to be a developer to appreciate them on a different level ;)

The debugger looks nice, how ever is there a option to always terminate a program with out question, debug boxes pupping up on programs I can fix my self, or do not have the source code to, will not help me.

The only thing that looks ugly on AmigaOS4.0 is the icons.

In reply to Comment 4 (Ben Hermans/Hyperion):
Actually I am developer (been it for my entire life) and already realized you have ported gdb on AOS4 and the crash guard like system. But using a GNU system for the past years made me resistent to see that as something special because I'm using gdb a lot of times. We even have bug-buddy on GNOME which is quite similar to your Grim Reaper. But anyways I must admit having ported it to AOS4 is quite nice.

By the way I am really touchy when it comes to 'you must be a developer' kind of sentences. You should throw an eye to my homepage http://www.akcaagac.com/ then come back and ask again if I know to develop or not.

The flashing red boxes are still there under certain conditions (deadend alerts). Crashes result in the Grim Reaper showing up, though, which starts our with a simple Requester (much as what was shown in the recent AmiWest presentation). The GUI pops up once you press "more..." there.

In reply to Comment 25 (Peter Gordon):
The "Zoom" Gadget works like before - pressing it toggles between the "normal" and an "Alternative" size. It is up to the program that openes the window to supply these alternative sizes.

Having said this, it should be relatively straightforward to write a small commoditiy that implements a "Zoom to Full screen" kind of functionality. Alternatively an application can implement this feature by itself, there is a standard way of adding title bar buttons (MUI already uses this to add its buttons to window borders) that comply with the selected look.

What can I say, as another developer, GET AOS4 OUT SOON - my miggy died about 2 months ago, and I'm not putting the effort into bringing it back. I'm also not doing any serious coding on winuae - in other words, I'm waiting for aos4 before I buy an A1 (or whatever they're calling it these days).

And no mos/peg flames please - I'll be buying one of those too, *after* I've got the a1 up and running, I like my software to work on everything, and can always do with more hardware ;-P

What about doubleclicks on window title bars to maximize, can't you do that on the side of the OS?

Sure this could be done, but a commodity has the advantage that you don't need to launch it if you don't want to. Some people expect the window to shade (i.e. contract to just the titlebar, as in Linux) while others expect it to iconify (MacOS X) when you double click on the title. With a commodity you can have both, or none, as you wish.

1) new icons will be released with OS4
2) you can do "almost" what you want with a hotkey through Fkey (so you can maximise a window)
