Bernie Meyer has now made available some new drivers for Amithlon. These include new sound and network drivers that make use of Linux kernel drivers and therefore give full access to a large number of cards and chipsets.

These were features that would have been released a year ago had politics not intervened, and they have now been made available as a thank you to the long-suffering folk who bought Amithlon in good faith.

For details and links, see Bernie's Umilator.net blog

Big thanks to Bernie Meyer! I've been waiting for
these features a long time.

If it's possible, how about setting up some form
of donation thingy, to say "thanks!" and to reward
Bernie for some of his struggles. Although, I'm
not sure if Bernie is willing to accept any
money.

thank you so much Bernie.
With these news features several updates of Amithlon kernel and modules will be possible. AmigaOS on PC is supporting now an extra large range of hardware, and soon thanks to that update, there will be much other hardware support.

the only question that staying without response is... when the USB will be usable on Amithlon (for ALL well known USB chipset/controlers) ??
With an Amithlon documented USB memory access, Chris Hodge will have the opportunity to support Amithlon... that will be really great.

thank you Bernie for your support for Amiga community.

I talked to Chris a looong time ago about doing for the USB drivers what this contrib package does for Sound and Network --- namely wrap AmigaOS drivers around the linux drivers.Unfortunately, there are two problems with that. The first one is that I simply don't understand USB (I don't really understand the itty bitty details of sound or networking, either, but I understand them a heck of a lot more than USB). The second, more serious problem, is that the linux drivers are layered, and the Poseidon drivers are layered --- and the layers don't actually match. Trying to wrap Poseidon drivers around linux drivers, one ends up with one layer of the USB stack being present in both.... Which ain't gonna work. That having been said --- I am aware of at least one effort, and I think there are two more, to write actual UHCI(sp?) drivers for Poseidon, which would work directly with the large majority of motherboard chipsets. The situation is similar for OHCI, the "other" popular standard.I hope that the authors of these efforts (and Chris, AFAIK, is one of them) understand that I am perfectly happy to provide any help I can, and to give them any information they need. I'd love for Chris to be able to make some money from Amithlon registrations, and I'd love for Amithlon users to be able to use USB. So if you are aware of anyone needing info, send them my way (and make sure people put a Subject: header into their mail that does *not* look like spam or email virus :)

Yo Bernie, two small questions from me personally :)

1. Well, not as much a question as a wish: A patch to regular linux UAE so that it can use the amithlon partition (WinUAE already does this) - if it requires the user running UAE to have read-write access to the /dev/partition so be it :)

2. Do you know if someone managed to merge the JIT patch against linux UAE 0.8.22?

Thanks for the update btw, I'll see if I can do some tricking with kenel modules to get wireless pcmcia working on my laptop as well, should be possible somehow... :)
