Is the first run of Pegasos 2 a Beta Tester system, or not. I would like a concise and correct answer.

I am surprised you are reselling the Peg 1 boards. Are you relabeling these as still beta tester systems? If not these units are questionable in terms of being suitable for the purpose intended.

And that purpose you seem to not get.

The text clearly says threw Phoenix ONLY, as far as I know
Phoenix only sell to developers. And it is not done by clicking on
a buy-now button. And the price: Euro 99. Ooh, that must definately be
a brand new from the factory motherboard!

In reply to Comment 7 (Leif):
I understand that.

But even so, its not a free product. You are buying a motherboard that has some issues (yes, even today), and wether you are a developer or not, a product has to be suitable for the purpose intended.

You know, technically, its illegal to sell a product you know is faulty. But I digress, most people interested are willing to forgive that to get their hands on a board. My main interest is wether the P2 is a beta tester board or not.

Not if you say "hey, look, this is faulty", and the other party says "ok, it's fine, as long as I pay so little for it".

In reply to Comment 8 (AdmV):
No. It's completely _fine_ to sell a product that you know is faulty.

It's only illegal if you choose not to tell the customer what you know about the product OR if the fault is really _dangerous_

Shops sell women slightly stained or incorrectly sewn garmets all the time, it's called a "spoil" and you pay a lot less for it. They are clearly marked.

@AdmV

Well, by that reasoning, most shareware developers, or even commercial
developers are ilegal then. The know their products have issues.
I think it just is that way in the computer-buissiness.
Then it is a question about if theese issues are hidden or explained.

About the P2 beeing beta, I think I read somewhere that it would be
beta. At first. It seems logical too, as it is a new product, that
could have problems. On the other hand, I see no mention of this in
this "press-release". Maybe it was a simple procedure to switch NB.

Morph would be a great character to advertise MorphOS. The original animations were created on the Amiga.

Linus, what does Infogrames have to do with Atari? Well, they own the name now for one and they will now raise around $130 million through an equity offering. Branding is about leveraging a name that means something to the mass market. That is why Infogrames bought the name Atari and changed their name to Atari. They make games; they want to sell more. Come on Linus, Enter the Matrix! Read this on the third page:

OUR STRATEGY

Our objectives are to improve our leadership ...

<snip>

--invest selectively in emerging technologies and early stage development for next-generation consoles.
===========

What is a computer Linus? What was a computer? What will the "computer" be? What is Atari?! The PPC architecture is increasingly becoming a commodity. It will become cheaper. It is efficient. It is destined for mobility and an all-purpose gateway like device linked 24/7 to a broadband ISP with WIFI features that con support multiple in home devices? Why not call it an Atari?

A few months ago Nolan Bushnell even joined Phoenix! ;-)

Just like the AmigaOne strategy, nothing to do with a real amiga except for the name.

"It can only be about trying to get som extra sales because of the name."

Sounds like what AmihaInc have been trying to do for a few years now and failing miserably.

Well, maybe they executed poorly, but, do not blame them. The problem began with CBM.

Research conducted on corporate and brand identity has shown that a company's brand image has the ability to shift the demand curve of a product or service, positively or negatively. A strong, positive brand has a direct influence over buyers' purchasing decisions, benefits customer and employee retention and loyalty, improves the ability to attract top talent and has a tangible impact on whether or not to invest in a company.

What could be wrong with that? Atari still has a good name and it is getting better!

I think the majority of Peg I's that come back would be fully
April2'ized since these are the majority of those that exist in the
field. An April2 Peg I is very functional and more than up to the task
of development - heck people even developed on April-less boards and
they *are* a pig ;-)

As for re-selling, they are clerly advertised as second hand
boards. 99E for something I paid 499 for..who the heck could resist
this kind of bargain...the only stipulation that you join Phoenix and
develop something..heck port 'hello world' from Linux ;-)

a. Certainly not, but the most important is to sell it in order to get money and it's a good thing.
Why should Amiga users be the only people who have the privilege to have a Pegasos. Linux, BSDs users deserve to have it.

b. No AmigaOS is 68k and last version is 3.1. Any 3.5 and 3.9 are just bugs fixes and patches no major update.
Any PPC OS just can't be an AmigaOS but an AmigaOS compatible.

Because an Atari is something completely different.
Usually I'm not calling my GF's dog a cat either.

Your plans will certainly work out for the broad majority you're aiming at, but don't expect that many of your short- and mid-term core customers, i.e. of the past and present Amiga-users, to love you for doing this. To us, the Atari was the archenemy. And therefore, to me, calling an Amiga Atari is - pardon - perverted.

I'm rather surprized that you do seem to not understand this. On the one hand you acknowledge that names aren't hollow words (i.e. see value in a known brand), but on the other hand you're not understanding those of us who do have for the very same reason a big disliking of that name (at least when aimed for an Amiga)?

But again: for the broader market your strategy of course might be a good idea. I just don't like it.
