Just thought I'd post a quick preview of a little project I've been working on over the last week and which will hopefully be released in the next few days for graphics cards owning Amiga users. Homer is compatible with AmigaOS3.9 and AmigaOS4.0beta, he should also function without problems on MorphOS, although this isn't tested.

Homer doesn't actually do anything, he's there for a bit of amusment on your desktop, i.e. he's very similar to the original Homer which is on Aminet now, except this version looks quite a bit nicer and has a few more (250+) frames of animation.

In this initial release Homer will stand nodding his head making comments, and be fully animated shouting Doh, going crazy and generally being happy with a few WooHoo's!

Possibility for no window borders and transparency so that only Homer's figure is shown?

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work on 3.1, aslong as you have CyberGFX or Picasso96 and your screenmode set to 15Bit or higher.

Something to test when it's released I guess!

I had an idea, would it be possible for his moods to be linked to the system in some way ie when the system is under heavy load he gets mad and so on
Homer Simpson on your desktop! : Comment 22 of 46ANN.lu
Posted by Mark Cheetham on 16-Sep-2003 20:46 GMT
Uh! Uh! Uh! What if it had an arexx port with commands for all his actions so you could set up system event (ie when theres an error or disk instert) programs to control Homer. Say for instance when there's error requester homer goes `doh!` etc At the very least I could set up a dopus button bar to make him co woohoo whenever I like!

Ok, I`ll shut up now...probably.

And it does look cool, Good luck :-)

He already has an AREXX port for exactly that purpose. For example, I have it attached to the New Mail arriving in YAM for him to shout Woohoo!

If you had a PPC card you could have used the CGXAGA driver ...

I do - well not a PPC card exactly - a PPC motherboard: AmigaOne. still, once OS4 is past Beta, eh ?!
OR... isnt there a version of CGXAGA for 68k ?
or some way of using CGX stuff on P96 within UAE ?
Homer Simpson on your desktop! : Comment 34 of 46ANN.lu

In reply to Comment 33 (Jim Forbes-Ritte (AGAfaster)):
P96 has built in CGX emulation I think.

Well it must have because Homer works on my OS4beta partition and that only uses P96, yet Homer opens and uses functions from Cybergraphics libraries, none of which are installed.

I guess it should work on UAE.

Ahem, :-) Sounds a little bit painful for my liking :-)

I'll see what I can do regarding OS4beta screen, I'll have to run it past Ben Hermans first, but in all honesty it doesn't look very much, if at all (depending on mode, transparent or not) different to OS3.9.

Just the window borders look different.

"for graphics cards owning Amiga users"

So all you people adding comments to this post are graphic cards??? (Maybe I'm one.) I've never seen a graphic card "own" an Amiga user. How much does an Amiga user go for these days???

Dear Friends:

OS4 will be very better than MorphOS, AmigaOS 4 is developed by hyperion but is more amigaos than morphos, genesi have a lot of people relationated with amiga but Amiga Operating System is the only true thing.

Wait for Amiga Operating System, is coming the next month !!

Note for Jeri Ellswood: i wanna like fuck you, i need sex, come with me please!

We look forward to the release of Amiga OS 4.0, and we look forward to continuing our efforts moving forward.

God bless,

Hmm... About possible "legal issues"

Maybe it would be better not calling that anything "Homer"...

Instead, offer separate Homer data set (graphics & samples & prefs)

Oh, surely it will be possible to create own graphics & sounds?
