"I think there will be a big shortage of AmigaOne's when OS4.0 is released at the end of October"

Mmmmmm, even Hyperion won't commit to a date publically and they're programming it. So, either he simply amde a mistake in cinstructing his sentence, or he has let slip some sort of insider non-public estimation.

<sigh> well, apart from the obvious spelling errors in my last post (cinstructing = constructing, amde = made), I also meant to add that whatever happens going forward, I hope that he (and the rest of the Amiga retailers still out there) start to reap some decent rewards for hanging in there with such a difficult market for so long. For all you Amiga retailers out there, the best of luck.

"The future looks bright!"

Amen to that. What only puzzles me is how Jim Collas comes into the picture...

In reply to Comment 3 (Emeric SH):
Well, Jim Collas was very good at evangelising and inspiring enthusiasm. Once OS4 is out, someone like that would be quite useful. I think thats all he meant.

Nice interview. Very upbeat.

As for the October part, ;) ;) ... I don't think he has a crystal ball.

I think he is just suggesting that we should make up our minds if we want an AmigaOne before OS4 comes out, because there may be a line-up if we wait until after OS4 comes out.

OS4 will not be released in October.

In reply to Comment 6 (redfox):
@redfox,

I took it to mean, we should purchase an AmigaONE from Mr. Hardware computers, because

1)OS 4 will be out in October (not true)
and
2) There will be a shortage of AmigaONE's after the OS 4 release (not true)

it wasn't entirely sinister, but no one should buy an AmigaONE
until after OS 4 is out and a few people have tested it...at least let the
BAF'ers test it and give their opinion, if they don't even like it, then
you'll be glad you saved your money.

Marktime, let time decide what's true and what isn't. You, are in any case not in the position to tell right now anyway.

In reply to Comment 9 (reflect):
time will decide whether my statement is true, just as it will judge Mr.Hardware's statements.

everyone should in fact wait, to see if the statements of Mr. Hardware are true, before they make any purchase.

If that's what you meant, I do agree.

I've been in this community for to many years, and seen to many of my friends lose their money, to advise anything else...or to be QUIET about it.
I care about this community, and I can't do any less.

Hopefully this site wont become filled with people bent on Attacking the Amiga at every turn like amiga.org is. The AmigaOne is available now and I have seen a OS4.0 demonstration so it is not just talk.

In reply to Comment 1 (jules):
This talk of "shortage at time of release (soon)" ain't nothing more
than one resellers daydream.. Or marketting attempt to improve
lagging sales so he could get his warehouse clear of those
non-sellign goods. "Purchase now, and get Free OS Later".. Seen those
around Amiga a bit too many times allready.

Or have everybody allready forgotten those 'OS4 iin few weeks'
campaigns KDH kept year ago?

but you will always be here to criticize it.--->This is the national sport in ann.lu :)

Well.. IF OS4 one day matures to usable level, and have some
softwwares that justify money spend to use it. I'd indeed may. But
with current track record I'd keep np hurry on having a board for it.

In case you don't know.. A year ago I remcommended peole not to
purchase Aones until OS4 is available cause they would e using Linux
for months.. Quite frankly I didn't expect them to had to use it well
over a year, but .. In the end. it's their money.. so they are free to
do what they want.

So? Are you one of those wannabees with Windowse PC?

In reply to Comment 15 (JoannaK):
I'm at the point that I really don't care what happens. I have many great memories on Amiga that I need to hold onto. Plus the dreams of outdoing the Wintel box and making the Mac look like it was designed for toddlers.
If only for sentimental value I shall still make use of an Amiga and/or Pegasos.

I trust your wisdom JoannaK and take it into consideration when choosing which and when to buy.

"Well, Jim Collas was very good at evangelising and inspiring enthusiasm. Once OS4 is out, someone like that would be quite useful. I think thats all he meant."

What is really needed is somebody like David Pleasance, who had a genius for selling large numbers of Amigas to store chains.

I think it'll be more like December, rather than October, for Amiga OS 4.0.

Allready has one A1 model (the SE) been discontinued and replaced by another (the XE). In a few months(?) the "Lite" model will be released, which in most areas will have much better specifications than the XE. My guess is that the A1 Lite will replace the XE as a "base model", and that a "power model" that will be more configurable (with PPC 970?) will be announced later on.

What I wanted to say was that new and better models might be released, the prices may go down, etc. So why the rush? The SE owners bought an expensive motherboard and still they can't use it as an Amiga. By the time they can, their expensive motherboard will be quite outdated compared to the by then available (cheaper?) alternatives. Of course, everyone spends their money the way they choose, but wouldn't it be wise to simply wait and see?

Who knows, maybe OS4 *will* be released at the end of the next month (allthough I seriously doubt it, based on the recent show reports)?

I think the lite version target a different area of usage, even so it sames that has every thing i need, so do I need a lager card? I think there are other areas as well, I think this card we SE now will be replaced when the PPC970 comes out, I mean it be stupid to use sdram on faster CPU, they should move on to the DDRAM at lest, the lite version of the board I can't be found at my local dealer www.dkpc.no yet.

In responce to " My guess is that the A1 Lite will replace the XE as a "base model""
That's like saying the a1200 was the replacement for the a2000. They are completely different models.
Hey ya think after 10 years of waiting for new Amiga's people would invest in the future of Amiga
instead of saying hey let's wait some more. If everyone was like this there would never be a new Amiga
