Genesi is pleased to announce that there will be two Pegasos presentations at user groups in Texas this October! We've got a state and a presentation so big we need to do it twice!

David Lund of the AmigaMCCC will be demonstrating the Pegasos on October 13th at the University of Texas at Arlington

Alex Bartonek of the Central Texas Amiga Computing Society will present the Pegaos in a demonstration on October 20th at 6:30pm group meeting in Austin, Texas.

The focus of these events are the Pegasos and it's strong Amiga compatibility! Commonly available Amiga software programs will be demonstrated on the Pegasos at this event and attendees will have a chance to question David about the Pegasos and his experience with this exciting new platform.

The Pegasos is the new PowerPC computer system from Genesi and supports both G3 and G4 PowerPC processors. The Pegasos is a highly affordable computer system based on the CHRP standard and supports at least seven flavors of Linux including Debian, Mandrake, Gentoo and others.

To compliment the Pegasos and provide a complete solution, Genesi has developed MorphOS - an Amiga compatible, preemptive multitasking operating system. MorphOS combines a modest footprint with scalability, high performance, and amazing ease of use for developers and end users. Its beautifully designed interface and modular object-oriented design offers a modern solution out of the box.

Some operating systems work through emulation including Amiga and Macintosh, and other operating systems such as QNX, OpenBeOS and NewOS are under development already.

For more information on the October 13th event visit AmigaMCCC at www.amigamccc.org or email David Lund at dslcc@msn.com - for information on the October 20th event email Alex Bartonek at bartonekdragracing@yahoo.com

What does everyone think about having an "events" category on ANN? Considering how many shows there have been, how many show reports have been posted, and hoping that this trend will continue, it might make sense.

Excellent. A couple of events taking place within driving distance for me. If I'm off work I may just pay you all a visit assuming you don't mind a "red troll" coming along for a look ;-)

A Texas rancher visited a finnish ranch.
The finn gave him a ride around his farm. The american commented.. "so small buildings.. we have bigger in texas!", "So little farmland? .. we have way much bigger in Texas!"

At one point a hedgehog was crossing the road.. american asked.. "what the hell is that!?" ..

Finn answered: "it's a groin louse... you have bigger?"

Christian, I agree that you should create an "Events" category. These are important so IMO you should give a default checkmark like "News" though. There appears to be sufficient space on that text bar that you don't have to delete any other category.

Darrin, I think I speak for all Pegasos owners (well, most anyway ;)) when I say that people or even trolls from the "red camp" are welcome at Pegasos events. Of course this assumes that the person in question doesn't come to yell or disrupt or rip posters off the wall, but that is something that is rare. The blue camp has trolls too, so holding grudges about that kind of thing would be a bit hypocritical for us.

Since this IS Texas we're talking about, wouldn't ripping a poster off the wall and setting it on fire just be considered "playfull"? :D

Not at all. Keep in mind that both of these presentations are in conjunction with local Amiga user groups. We're "taking it straight to the people".

We look forward to meeting with you.

@ Daniel

Cheers. I guess slipping a "cherry bomb" into the Peg's case would be out of line too??? ;-)

@ Stew

If I can make it to the San Antonio event then I'll have to drive through Beaumont and Houston to get there. Assuming my schedule allows me to go, you can put up with my driving (I still get confused which side of the road I'm supposed to be on) and my wife doesn't decide to tag along for the ride (I drive a Camero so I can only seat 2 adults comfortably) then I'd be happy to give you a lift. My email address is valid.

Actually I have a couple of daughters living in Austin. I will go to the Austin show for sure if the PegII is going to be shown. Any idea if that is on the agenda? I will bring my checkbook if that'll help. If not I may take you up on your offer. I am about 20min north of I-10 in Beaumont.

Lumberton? Silsby?

My ex-wife lives in Lumberton so I'm constantly going back and forth there to collect/drop off my kids. Perhaps WE should start a local user group? :-)

I'm just down the road in Lake Charles. We have one other guy here that I know of who has an Amiga (3000), but his just sits in a dusty wardrobe. It will be nice to know another user in the area and I'm good at giving and receiving advice when it comes to what to do with my Amigas.

Regards,

Yes I did actually... but that was nearly a year ago. Many other countries in Europe have had a demonstration recently (this year), so why leave out the UK, always the Amiga's biggest market?

I was in ECP computers (by home depot) and the guy there new about Amigas. He didn't laugh at me! He said there was a fer other toaster/flyer users in the area. I am meaning to go back to him and find out who. There was another fella that ran an Amiga BBS back a few years ago> The bbs was FOT's place. He lost a son to an accident and shut down. Maybe we could drum a few up.

I wasn't planning to attend... A 700km return trip is considerable mileage to do in one day, and I'm not too keen on spending money on a hotel (and being away all weekend).
