CBM is a GOOD example, as is the Co behind Emplant, and the whole "Death of Commodore"- Lawyer business! If not for money-hungry lawyer/s, the post-Commodore sale could have happened faster!

I once did a 'Google' on "Death of Commodore", which brought to light:
http://www.graner.net/editoria.htm "An employee's reflection on how CBM killed the Amiga"; and showed an example of UNDERPAID & SHAFTED its own employees!!

In reply to Comment 99 (Rich Woods):
"China - not as much high tech jobs - although they are now mainly a manufacturing base - new corporate manufacturing industrial parks and they are producing EVERYTHING!

Workers get $2-3 a day - and are happy to be employed - (which will be happening here soon - and I'm not talking billyboy and Ryan.)"

Chinese wages appear abnormally low when translated into dollars because the exchange rate is way off. People are keeping families on that wage, so the real equivalent is more like $20-30, or more. Pressure is being applied to China to adjust the exchange rate (it is fixed, not floating).

I am seeing a lot of pictures of city dwelling people in China looking well dressed and prosperous. The countryside is still poor, and in some areas very poor.

@Wayne

It's not quite that simple. There's little doubt that Amiga Inc mishandled their dealings with H&P, but your comment implies that the fault is their alone. This is certainly not the impression I get.

As Bernie said, in the case of Amithlon/AmigaXL there was NO contract. That is to say H&P _refused_ to sign the contract, so it's hard to see how responsibility for that lies with Amiga Inc. Note also that H&P themselves never claimed they didn't owe Amiga Inc a licensing fee. According to Mr Haage, they were "waiting to receive the invoice" first (which seems a bit difficult in the absence of a contract or Amiga Inc receiving any sales reports). It's quite obvious H&P thought "screw them, they'll never come after us anyway", and were proved quite right in that respect.

However, I think the person initially responsible for the bad relationship between Amiga Inc and H&P is a former high profile Amiga employee who was notorious for making up his own rules as he went along. Many Amigans still revere his contribution, but in reality he left a legacy of corruption and total disregard for rights and contracts. I am of the opinion that the damage he did by far overshadows any of the stop gap measures he took to "keep the dream alive".

I think the current mob are responsible for enough cock-ups without being blamed for others' lack of professionalism too.

Ann,
I agree, Amiga Inc. didn't deserve being robbed, but let's face it, they earned it/ had it coming.

Rich Woods, if you collaborated with Dave Haynie and wrote a book, an actual book, covering Amiga innovations and politics from the very beginning to this bitter end, I know I'd pay $15 for a paperback, or $23 for a hardbound book. It'd sit nicely next to Tracy Kidder's Soul of a New Machine, and George Dyson's Project Orion books.

Write a one-page abstract, run it by the right publishers (Henry Holt is one), you two could get a nibble, I'm sure. Toss in a CDROM of all the court filings/ snapshots, and maybe the deathbed vigil as an MPEG, and you could push that hardback price closer to $38.
