The pages are online again - and I already have some questions about those CPU comparison tables. >:-)

..the strange choices of mixed comparisons? compare heat against celeron 800
and then comparing speed agsinst a C3-1000 for example?

thats markewting for you.

So what's your alternative plan? Compare it with a CPU that makes it look bad? Duh. You make the best with the product you have and the new web site does so nicely. I want a Pegasos II.

Down for software upgrades? Can no one host a site on a clustered webservice and provide 24x7 100%uptime? I suppose for these companies with such a small market there's neither the financial incentive nor the necessity to do so.

to trade up or not trade up... that is the question.

It's good to have the Pegasos on sale again but I'll wait for the Pegasos3, that'll be a significant step forward (revolution rather than evolution) and keep the Pegasos 1 until then. I just like it too much to give it away ;-)

No, what he's saying is that it looks odd. To me, it looks like a Celeron 800 generates more heat, but also runs faster than a G3 (why else would they compare the G3 against a different CPU for FPS then?). It also tells me that the VIA CPU also uses less power than a G3. In other words, it's a lousy comparison. It tells me an x86 CPU that is faster than the G3 (the C800) and one that draws less power (the Via chip). That's just bad marketing.

The comparison they did with the G4 is way better, the CPU used to compare for power consumption and speed is the same. Here the message is "see, we're better than this powerful x86 CPU on both counts". No questions, no doubts.

Unless it's a cunning ploy to sell more G4s, if I were them I'd seriously consider redoing the G3 comparison.

Well, if you favour non-linear thinking, you might see it that way. Me, if I don't see a benchmark comparison for the Celeron 800, I don't conclude that the G3 is slower or faster or anything. Now the facts: A Celeron clocked at 800 MHz might be a bit faster than a G3 at 600 MHz in some benchmarks. And slower in others that favour the PPC architecture (more registers). Mixed picture. A C3, on the other hand, is known to be an underperformer on a GHz basis, which makes it a good reference point for marketing. At the same time, it is close enough to the Pegasos in the sense of "alternative, fanless and cool" to not make you look completely ridiculous if you compare your offerings against it.
