Kind Sir, the reason the Pegasos is listed here, on an Amiga site is very simple. The Pegasos is *the* natural upgrade path for the Amiga community. Regardless of names, name-calling, or wishful thinking. In fact, I would highly suggest visiting someplace or someone with a Pegasos, for the experience is far more convincing than any words.

Hi bibop,
in this moment I think the most similar thing to an Amiga is a Pegasos with MorphOS installed. If you think it's sad to not have "Amiga" logo on Pegasos case go and wait for other solutions. I already find my Amiga successor machine and personally don't care about names, I see at facts.
Moreover following your reasoning also AmigaDE related stuff should be not mentined on Amiga sites, cause this OS has nothing to do with AmigaOS. Isn'it?

However please, let's stop all this ostility in our community, if someone is not interested in something can easily not read news about it, even if it's so sad to know that other old amigans like me judge something without to have ever tryed it, but only because they don't like its 'name'..

Hi Targhan, how can you honestly say that when OS4 is in the pipeline?

I agree, MorphOS is a very nice Amiga-like, OS 3.x Amiga-compatible operating system, but I would disagree that it is the "natural" upgrade path.

It is simply one option of many possible options.

Hi,
While the cracked boingball on the t-shirt was OK I don't think it is on the website.
Using a cracked Amiga logo is unethical and may violate a trademark.
The Pegasos can stand on its own merit without going after Amiga.
As I don't speak Italian I don't know how much official this site is but IMHO it should not be assimiled as an official Italian Genesi site until such representations are removed.

My 2 cents.

In reply to Comment 12 (Darren Eveland):
@Darren

I suppose I should explain. Until such time that OS4 is actually available to the public, it is not an upgrade path. Now, that I had to say that, I should explain. At one time, many moons ago, I worked for AntiGravity. I saw the BoXeR. Given another two month, I think they might have pulled it off. It was in the pipeline, but as you see there is no BoXeR now. Another good analogy is Amithlon, which actually did make it to market. I even bought a copy. I like Amithlon, but the legal turmoil doomed the system. In fact, I would say that the legal turmoil started about the time that Amithlon was going to turn the corner. What would happen if Hyperion should go bankrupt? What if the Friedens have an automobile accident? As you see, until an item gets into the market, it is not an upgrade path. OS4 can be in the pipeline, but until it comes OUT of the pipeline, it is not an upgrade path at all.

I just know from experience that until it's available, it isn't an option. OS4 can go on tour, but the BoXeR was on tour as well. OS4 can be in beta-testing, but so was WebCruiser (an Amiga webbrowser from years back). Does anyone honestly believe that the people (different people, different projects) behind those projects *wanted* to not see those products hit the market? How can I, especially after my experience with something that came close, honestly consider something an alternative until it's done?

With the above said, I do not wish any ill will upon the OS4 team, Hyperion, or even Eyetech. I am just not going to call something an option until it *is* an option.

In reply to Comment 13 (Christophe Decanini):
Hi Christophe, you know we think alot of you. DaveP, we think highly of you too, but here we have to disagree with you both.

Michele's use of the altered boing ball is not unethical, nor is a MorphOS butterfly being zapped in a microwave or snagged in an Amiga net. There is no trademark violation. It is not the trademark and it is on a site in Italy. Go try to fix that in a legal process...

Let's make something clear: the Pegasos has and does stand on its own merit. Michele is a Reseller and not part of Genesi corporately. We have no problem with his site, his "crass" t-shirt, or his occasional extraordinary enthusiasm. It is passions like his that kept this community alive for years and the reason why we have had a chance to make something out of it today.

And, while we are at it: we wish the best to OS4. They have a long way to go, BUT we really hope they get there. We know how hard it is to do what they are doing. If we could ever work through our differences we could actually like to help them. In fact, many say the Peagsos and MorphOS are actually helping them now because they have increased the level of activity around here. It all runs in the the same with the CPU family. Frankly, people like Michele and you are a big part of the reason there still IS a community. Christophe, you and Adam are of the same mold. Your French. DaveP your British. He is Italian. Cultural differences aside -- it is all the same community. When Hyperion are standing alone -- and they will be -- we will be right there if the are looking for support because they belong here too. We said that at AmiWest and we say it again now.

What to do now? Here are the facts: Amiga Inc. screwed this all up. Bill McEwen shot his mouth off too many times, broke too many promises and called people down with nothing to back it up. There is no judgment there. Finally, he picked a fight with the wrong people. Blindly, the ignorant took this word as gospel and this lead to more problems. Sure there were the WarpUp and PowerUp wars before and MorphOS has slogged its way for years through illegitimate criticisms. Here is another fact: MorphOS is becoming something very tangible and very successful. Wait to see what happens next! Seen any other non-unix OS get IBM validation lately? There are far too many talented people working on the advancement of the platform and it is going some where. If OS4 runs on the Pegasos we will apply for IBM validation for them too! As we said a year ago, and two years ago -- "let us see what happens."

The bottom line: if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. It easy to be nice to nice people, It is hard to be nice to jerks. We are all human. Often emotion rides amuck. Here on these forums tensions have run high. From our perspective, we ask no quarter and give no quarter. Bring the jerks on. They are the problem on these forums. The intellectually challenged anonymous whimps who hide behind their computers and cast stones. They don't do anything to contribute and they certainly do not buy computers. Often if they were exposed they would be ashamed and their childish behavior would cease. It is called accountability. We need some, but lets have some fun. We like Michele's t-shirt!

Back to the real world: how many AmigaOnes and Pegasos machines do you really think are out there? FACT: maybe 1000! That is all! There is alot of talk in this community and on these forums. That will not restore any real commercial credibility around here. We all need to get to work if we ever hope to reach a five digit number or more...

The *real* community is busy, getting applications ported, launching websites, breaking into new projects. It would be great if these forums could be constructive and collaborative. We like Michele's enthusiasm -- even if it has been turned on us from time to time.

The Pegasos intends to be an inclusive platform, NOT an exclusive on.

Morph is more than an OS -- it is a concept!

Soundbyte, since you refuse to explain the "concept". Any idiot can claim he has an idea which is a "concept", but they're only worth listening to if they have the eloquence to make others understand what the concept stands for. MorphOS is a lightweight, somewhat immature operating system. Nothing more.

We all know why you *want* people to believe this but it is, in fact, not reality. The "natural" and authentic upgrade for the Amiga community is AmigaOS4 and beyond, which is not a Genesi product. Actually that's not quite true... Or more like, it isn't the "full truth"

-UAE exists, and is available for free download (though you need to grab rom images from your old Amiga before putting it to rest in the closet)
-Amiga Forever exists, and you can buy it
-AROS exists, and is freely available
-Amithlon exists, is on sale, but "legal status" might be a bit questionable (Of course, using it shouldn't be illegal...)
-Upgrading classic Amiga (For example adding Prometheus PCI bus)

So, MorphOS isn't only existing upgrade path, and never will be... And neither will AmigaOS 4
