Genesi today announced that RJ Mical will assume an evaluation role for Genesi. RJ Mical was a co-inventor of the Atari Lynx handheld game system and the 3DO entertainment console, and was also head of software engineering at Ericsson Red Jade. Most recently, RJ has been the Chief Architect for the Fathammer mobile game engine and continues today to serve as a Director. RJ will be making a full assessment of the Pegasos and MorphOS and prepare a plan to assist Genesi to move the Pegasos into the world of mobile devices.

RJ will be meeting with Pegasos and MorphOS Developers and Users this coming week in Helsinki. He will be in Finland on Fathammer business.

It's irrelevant what some people recognize the brand for, the fact that the name has a great recognition value is always positive. Furthermore, there are atleast a million former Amiga users out there and the majority of them has a positive and most oftenly very fond memory of that experience. Don't under estimate the power of a strong brand.

It is from his website Sammy. He posted the link. And, Sammy as long as we are at it what are you doing on this thread? You do not like or have any commercial interest in the Pegasos or MorphOS, so why bother?

Seriously.

If you are looking for further discussion, please send an email and we can take up another one of our protracted discussions. Weren't you going to post our last one online somewhere?

We very pleased to have the interest of RJ and looking forward to his thoughts on the future of the platform.

>You better think (more), before you are really "I am."

Now there's a statement of ignorance if I ever saw one.
Perhaps you better read (more) on my website before you go assuming or twisting things out of proportion with regard to--as you put it--"I am" and myself or my beliefs.

That's from my website. Correct. It bespeaks of manifestation into mortal form (I Am), from an ethereal Soul form (Eye).

Been there, done that, and continue from said nexus.

Are you violating Copyright again today? ;-) Perhaps this is a habit with you?

Yes. But I see that Pro-Pos (your OS effort, with Martin Baute, etc.) has waned in recent months. November 14th seems to be Martin's deadline for declaring it dead or not--two years from its beginning.

See, I've kept up with you guys ;-) I keep up with almost everybody, in one manner or another.

In the past you made some similar derogatory remark. Truth is, partnership in that motel gave me a share in profits from a high-occupancy 79-unit lodge that now stands in its place, along with buyout which supplied a generous house down payment and put money in the pocket. Hey - I moved on.

Maybe you should too ;  }

Now, to get past the yappy crap: if you actually think you can write an OS and make it useful, then you had better stop jabbering and start learning to code. And then really code and attract others who code. It's a huge job. It's also a huge job to get it out there in use, even limited use. I applaud MorphOS, Hyperion and AROS people for DOING.

I also consider myself to be fortunate to be part of an effort that works hard to make products and services. Now that Genesi has gathered essential talents and companies and has made some inroads in spite of obstacles, this makes it possible to attract MORE talent from a wider landscape, and to get further placement. Solvent, working with others, things go forward.

Still a lot to do. But though the steps in the grand scheme of things may seem rather small, they all add up.

It's not dead, just put offline and turned into a spare time hobby project rather than a large scale project as it was originally intended to be. Linus Torvalds managed this way so don't be too hasty on proclaiming our doomsday. :-P

For those who don't know about the OS I'm referring to, check here: http://www.pro-pos.org :)

That eyeam freak's OS is actually planned, and some day when he/she/it has learnt some programming he/she/it might actually start working on it?

Sheesh, why do some people apparently still believe in "AmigaOS5"? That a fanatic astrologer nutcase and hard rock musician worshipper who doesn't know anything about programming would release an OS before ainc will settle which meaningless buzzwords to use should tell you something...

I started working on it in 2001. :)

>Sheesh, why do some people apparently still believe in "AmigaOS5"?

Because, frankly, that is the MOST viable operating system of all of the Amiga OSes. In formation, perhaps; in dream, maybe; in mere sketches of the idea. Either way, Amiga OS running on x86-64 (i.e., AMD64) is the way to go.

>That a fanatic astrologer nutcase

Yeah, that's ripe.

QUITE untrue.

That can't even be 'amigadev.net' (unless you've left out an asterisk *). What website are you trying to say there? And why mask it?

As for my identity, any visit to my site would amply reveal that. :)

It all depends on who does the planning and design work. A port of AmigaOS to x86 could be a useful and practical OS for certain niche markets, or it could be a half-brained misch-masch.

IBM's move into serious CPU development has also changed the situation somewhat.

That's true. With IBM producing decent CPUs again (and even licensing them - that hints at pretty large production runs!), AMD producing some kick-ass 64 bit processing and Intel falling behind, it looks like Bill Gates' worst paranoid fantasies might be closer than anyone thinks. The next few years should be interesting...

(ObAmiga: we might even get a double-digit market share due to the resulting "power vaccuum" if that happens!)

WAY to expensive for people to buy for their kids to throw around

C'mon. This legend saying that there are millions of ex Amigans waiting for a new machine an ready to buy it only for he sake of the brand is ridiculous.

Go outside, in the streets, say the word "Amiga" : it's now quasi forgotten. At best some will remember it as a little console of the 80's.

Yes a strong brand may have power. But a forgotten and cursed one is as strong as rotten foundations on which you want to build a house : it will never again stand steady.

The name Amiga is dead ? Long live a new name ! If the spirit's still there, I don't care about the name.
