Maybe you remember the saying "The 'M' in Morphos stands for 'geek'!" ? Yes, it's true and we MorphOS users are much more geeky than the other geeks from Linux and Co. Sadly it hasn't been possible for us ubergeeks to enjoy a port of the ultimative geektool of the known universe simply because nobody of us so called ubergeeks ported the damn thing. I'm talking about MLdonkey. :)

But good news!!! A few months ago we locked CISC into a dingy cellar and told him he couldn't come out until he finished the Objective-Caml port, which was a required and important step for porting MLdonkey. We haven't heard from him for a very long time, and we couldn't be bothered to check. But all of a sudden he emerged from his dark dungeon. Fortunately (or maybe I should better say: unfortunately ;) he had finished OCaml and surprisingly also MLdonkey.

If you find CISC then thank him for this nifty port, sadly when I last saw him he was running away screaming 'THE DARKNESS CONSUMES US! WE ARE ONE WITH THE VOID!'.

Well, actually we've done this releases just for fun. The port is not finished, it still misses a GUI (hey, isn't this more geeky than the Linux version? Isn't it?). Also most of the 'Bonus' stuff was more or less been done in a very creepy and probably unusabl... i mean geeky way. We're still on the lookout for someone with some actual talent, so that we can all kick back and boss him around. So if for some insane reason you wish to volunteer in coding the MUI GUI then try to catch CISC on IRC or via eMail, else don't bother him or he will run away again.

Anyway, here you find out more.

WE ARE SO GEEKY! WHOOHOO! :)

I'm just going by the rumours that the Pegasos has only one of it's 2 IDE connectors functional. As I don't own a Pegasos I have to treat these rumours as facts in the same way that Pegasos owners believe any rumours about the AmigaOne having hardware problems or OS not working on it are facts. :-)

By the way, are you still running a Betatester or are you one of the lucky Pegasos 2 owners?

You thought that comment would upset me? Sorry, I used to work with "deprived" kids for a living so a) I'm used to adolescent dysfunction and b) it takes more than that kind of comment to upset me. Now, urinating on my cornflakes -- that probably would have done it. As for your comment, it just makes me wonder why people take the time to write something that's calculated to cause bad feelings; you know the smiley doesn't really wipe away the impression. It's hard to believe you once wanted to "end the flamewars". Was that really you? Anyway, I think we're feeling pretty good about how things are going, so you'll really have to come up with something more devestating (to others, not self-inflicted as is the trend so far) to put a dent in anybody's day.

So was this rumour totally unjust or is there a problem with certain (random) boards?

It is a MorphOS ide driver problem that happens in some situations with some devices (that's why not all users got the problem).
It is not a board problem. Work arounds have been indicated to the users while a new driver will hopefully be released soon.

Just out of interest, has anyone started compiling a list of "approved" or "problematic" hardware for anyone putting a Pegasos system together? I remember seeing someting somewhere with regards to software that would (or wouldn't) run.

"A bit like a certain problem on the AmigaOne with linux that everyone likes to bring up... it's just a driver problem... (Darrin ducks quickly)"

A little bit different, as the AmigaOne with linux bug involve data corruption.
The MorphOS ide lock could eventually lead to a file not written completely but when it happens you know it (as your device is locked) while on the Amigaone + Linux you need to check the file checksum to know what's wrong.
It was not fixed on the Amigaone sold at the Alchimie show (while some people said months ago that it was fixed), which mean the user of these machines can corrupt their data.
I hope both of these problems will be eradicated. Time will tell.

It's a problem in MorphOS. Linux already fixes this. Same on the AmigaOne.

Yeah, why do you create these problems?

>> You thought that comment would upset me?

Odd, usually "you" means the person who wrote the post you're replying to, but whatever....

>> Sorry, I used to work with "deprived" kids for a living so a) I'm used to
>> adolescent dysfunction and b) it takes more than that kind of comment to

> Get a sense of humour.

Get a clue about when it isn't funny to troll under the guise of sarcasm. Ian said it already in a previous post. When the topic is a p2p app for MorphOS and you make a "joke" about MOS users wanting to pirate AOS (at some point in the future, apparently), you should know this "humor" is not going to be appreciated and that a smiley doesn't automatically get you off the hook. Geez. Consider the context here, the climate, and decide if you really do want to be part of the problem or part of the solution. In other words, when you start being "funny" about Amiga, Inc. and its partners, etc. as often as you are Genesi, then I'll start thinking maybe you really are into humor and not trolling.

>> Now, urinating on my cornflakes -- that probably would have done it.

No, you said something that wasn't a partisan pot shot.

>> As for your comment, it just makes me wonder why people take the time to

Now, this time, before I misunderstand you, who do you mean by "you"?

>> you know the smiley doesn't really wipe away the impression.
> Then you'd better learn to understand what the "smiley" is for and stop being > so paranoid.

No, you'd better learn what a smiley is *not* for. People know where you're coming from, Darrin.

>> It's hard to believe you once wanted to "end the flamewars".
> I still do. I've fanned no flames here.

Uh huh. Right.

>> Was that really you? Anyway,
> Yes.

Well, it was a good idea while it lasted. (About six posts into the thread as I recall; you couldn't even get through the thread without reverting to exactly the behavior you were persuading people to leave behind.)

>> I think we're feeling pretty good about how things are going,
> Who are "we"? You and Rich Woods?

Not necessarily. People into the Pegasos platform is what I meant.

>> so you'll really have to come up with something more devestating (to others,

> I wasn't trying to "dent anybody's day". You really need to lighten up.... before I come around and urinate on your cornflakes. ;-)

Sorry but that line's too lame to use twice in one thread. At least you could have used a variant like ... before I wizz on your waffles .... I suggest if you want things lightened up, you should stick to comments that don't need a smiley attached to show people it's "a joke", and you avoid comments that, without the smiley, would be obvious trolling.

They say personal insults are the last resort for somebody with no viable points to make. I guess you just proved that.

> PS. I have no reason to be creative and original when replying to you as you're not worth the effort and your pathetic stance at simply opposing everything I type is both predictable and tiresome.

If you think I'm simply opposing everything you type, you're obviously not catching the drift of what I'm saying. But your attitude makes it hard for me to want to explain things again so I'll just let it go. As for your being original and creative, I think I've read enough of your posts in the past to know what I'd be in for anyway, so I don't feel too deprived that you're not going to treat me this time.

>I've passed all my exams, so I'd get back to studying for yours if I was you.

Passed your exams, eh? Well, now I *am* impressed. Seriously, that's great; it's good to know you shine somewhere even if you tend to come up short here.

> Now it's your turn to repeat your usual, pathetic monologue. I can't wait for yet another helping of Gary's sharp, rapier-like wit...

Hmm, this contradicts your view above that I'm a waste of time, but then when was logical consistency important? You're actually more fun to spar with than some people, who only insult and don't offer even bad reasoning to work with. But my point in this thread wasn't to spar, but to work with ideas, so if you've no interest in illuminating or being illuminated but only in lamely trying to insult me, it seems my job is done here.

The M in MorphOS stands for MorphOS, its a recursive acronym, like the G in GNU stands for Gnu's Not Unix.

Now, the second letter of Morphos, O, thats interesting. You probably wouldn't guess, but the O is also recursive and it stands for OrphOS.

I made all my points ages ago, I'm simply responding to your crud. Do try and pay attention to what's going on. I know this is hard for someone of your limited inteligence, but please do try.

>If you think I'm simply opposing everything you type, you're obviously not
>catching the drift of what I'm saying.

There has to be a "drift" in order to catch one.

>But your attitude makes it hard for me to want to explain things again so I'll
>just let it go.

I wish you would let go, because the only person with an attitude problem here is you and it's not so much and "attitude problem" as more of a "mental problem" where you seem to be attempting to notch up brownie points for no apparent reason.

>As for your being original and creative, I think I've read enough of your
>posts in the past to know what I'd be in for anyway, so I don't feel too

It's nice to know that you actually read my posts. It's a real shame that you cant understand them.

>Passed your exams, eh? Well, now I *am* impressed. Seriously, that's great;
>it's good to know you shine somewhere even if you tend to come up short here.

ROTFLMAO. Now that really is desperate. I'm "coming up short"? This from the man who hasn't posted one constructive thing on ANN since he discovered the "add comment" button.

>Hmm, this contradicts your view above that I'm a waste of time, but then when
>was logical consistency important?

You're failing to grasp the reasons for my comments agiain. I'm not trying to win any awards for literature here... and you couldn't if you tried. And as for logic, where's the logic in your obsessive posts in reply to my remarks?

>You're actually more fun to spar with than some people, who only insult and
>don't offer even bad reasoning to work with.

I'm glad you're having fun, however I'm starting to think "fun" is an understatement and that you're actually "getting off" on this. Also, a reason is not "bad" simply because you cannot grasp the logic behind it. Still, one day you'll enjoy the benefits of an education, but as you obviously paid (pay?) as little attention to your teachers as you do to me then I doubt you have little ability to learn anything new.

>But my point in this thread wasn't to spar,

It wasn't? You have a funny way of showing it.

>but to work with ideas,

Ideas? Wonderfull. I love ideas!!! I'll send you a couple by email so that you can have some too!!!

>so if you've no interest in illuminating or being illuminated but only in
>lamely trying to insult me, it seems my job is done here.

Please read back over the thread. You started the insults (as per usual) and I simply rose to the bait (I'm at work and bored).

If you REALLY want to engage me in a civilized debate or discuss points of interest in order to share your opinion or discover mine then I think you'll find that I'm more than capable of doing so in a polite and friendly manner. However, I don't believe this is part of your agenda. Rather, it looks like you're one more sock puppet who's mission is to attack anyone that comes from the "red camp". We see it all the time here on ANN. It's amazing that someone like "DaveP", "Ray", "Samface", "MikeyC", etc only have to post the words "I agree" in order to be set apon by a legion of frenzied zombies accusing them of being "trolls".

Anyway, we're way off topic here, so why not continue this in private. Off course, if you are part of the mission to publicly attack the "red camp" then you'll no doubt want to keep airing the dirty washing in public...

Continue in private? After listening to your insults (it's pretty funny how little you know about me) and your delusionary drivel? I can't think of anything that would be a bigger waste of my time.
