As pointed out by AmigArt, Richard Drummond (of AmigaFormat fame) has updated the Linux version of UAE to match the very latest WinUAE.
Check out the ppc versions for the Debian distro running on your A1, Peggy or Blizz/CyberPPC!

This is good news! :-) WinUAE was putting all the other UAE's to shame.

Cheers

I guess you didn't bother clicking the link? Yes the JIT is there, unless you're stuck running Linux on PPC :-)

Personally I didn't have the chance to run any of these UAE files. And I don't have the time to report a bug :-(

I have to agree with congratulations on this work, the latest UAE is far more stable,
the bsdsocket support is a godsend and it even appears to be faster. I wish Id
kept the old version about so I could have benchmarked it.

Well done!

Dave.

Dammit, now I have to make room for one more in my "candidates for Godhood" list.

(Translation: cheers Richard, this is *very* much appreciated)

Hi All

Thanks for all positive feedback.

> Does this one allow me to use my SFS formatted Amiga Hd?

No, not yet (and probably not any time soon). You would be able to use FFS-formatted partitions on an Amiga disk - if you have a Linux kernel with RDB and FFS support compiled in.

> ... or a MorphOS PPC version perhaps? ;-)

I don't have access to MorphOS - so, no, I can't do this. I do plan on getting it building on AmigaOS again, though (which may help if anybody does want to work on a MorphOS version).

> Doesnt compile here... gcc 3.2....

Yes. This is a known problem. It won't currently build as is on the x86 with gcc 3.x (although you can work around the problem fairly easily). However, if you have gcc-2.95, but it's not your default compiler, you can configure with

CC=gcc-2.95 ./configure --with-sdl-gfx --with-sdl-sound

(or whatever options you prefer).

I will be fixing support for gcc 3.x fairly soon.

> I imagine there will be a few bugs to sort out.

Oh yes! ;-)

Cheers,
Rich

It would be very nice if Amithlon partition could be used. WinUAE does this already. I could then use the same file systems from all three emulation environments.

In reply to Comment 15 (Richard Drummond):
Genesi will soon have a lot of second hand Pegasos 1 boards in stock (all with either April1 or April2). Those will be sold for €99. Previously they donated "phree" Pegasos boards (most of them without the any April), and I know they have made similar on lots of occations. Why don't you drop a mail to greenboy or bbrv to see if this project (or any other of your projects) are important enough to justify a free computer? Might be worth a try, the worst thing that can happen is that you get a "no"!

This is very good news!
LinuxUAE was very far behind WinUAE it needed the update.

Have anyone had UAE running on a pda or pentablet?
There is some linuxpdas but would UAE run on them?
And I know of that ancient UAE for ancient SharpPDAs, that´s not what I want I want a bigger screen and wireless Ethernet.

PPC versions still lack features only available for x86 platforms like sockets

Hi Alan

I was going to say, "What on earth are you talking about?", but a quick search on Google revealed that there is in fact a Linux driver for SFS. Cool. I didn't know that . . .

Cheers,
Rich

Hi Kolbjørn

> It would be very nice if Amithlon partition could be used.

Is this just a plain FFS partition on a DOS-partitioned disk? If so, then should work on UAE on Linux too.

Cheers,
Rich

In reply to Comment 21 (strobe):
Hi strobe

> PPC versions still lack features only available for x86 platforms like sockets

Not true. The only difference between my version of UAE when built for the PPC rather than x86 is that the JIT engine currently only works on the latter. The bsdsocket emulation works equally well on Linux on the PPC - although admittedly it's rather flaky on Mac OS X.

Cheers,
Rich

In reply to Comment 23 (Richard Drummond):
No, it's not that simple :)

It's a partition set with ID 76 (iirc) that will show up as an entire disk from within Amithlon (or WinUAE), meaning you partition it all you like from within AmigaOS but it will still be one partition from the PC side.
