Here's what it says about the Mediator on their web page:
"Information: The mediator support of a well-known company is definitively canceled because of their poor developer policy and their questionable attitude towards customers."

In reply to Comment 2 (Ronald):
I know, but having OpenPCI not available on the Mediator, pretty much just rewards Elbox for being... well, the way they are.

Customers of the companies with "poor developer policies, and questionable attitudes towards customers" would benefit from OpenPCI even more than everyone else would.

Heck, I think it'd be a great idea!

In reply to Comment 3 (T_Bone):
@T_Bone

I gather Elbox resorted to threats, resulting in the OpenPCI author deciding he's better off without the hassle.

OpenPCI is a major threat to Elbox' core policy, which is to retain total control over the drivers and hardware than can be used in conjunction with the Mediator cards, as doing so allows them to charge extra for the hardware and again for the drivers, with minimal investment in development.

Unfortunately, such stories are typical of the Amiga scene rather than tragic exceptions. Looking at everyone's plans for the future, this prevalence of confrontational attitudes seems unlikely to disappear.

<<I gather Elbox resorted to threats, resulting in the OpenPCI>>
<<author deciding he's better off without the hassle.>>

That's what killfiles are for, for ignoring people.

<<OpenPCI is a major threat to Elbox' core policy, which is to retain total>>
<<control over the drivers and hardware than can be used in conjunction with>>
<<the Mediator cards, as doing so allows them to charge extra for the hardware>>
<<and again for the drivers, with minimal investment in development.>>

That's Elbox's problem. The law does not protect that business model.
Given Elbox's history of using trojan data destroying code in their drivers, anything they threaten legally is safely ignored. Let them bleat like sheep.
Openpci on mediator would quickly become the defacto environment used on the mediator, because even us mediator users hate using elbox drivers. With all these extra eyeballs on the side of Openpci, it would benefit Openpci greatly to have us working on openpci drivers rather than using the Elbox trojans.
I'll probably sell my mediator in the spring anyway, because of the new anti-e3b trojan they are putting in their drivers, but if I had Openpci I might just keep it and further the Openpci cause.

Apparently, in the next Mediator driver update, if an E3b product is detected in your machine, the mediator stops working. (or something to that effect)

In reply to Comment 8 (T_Bone):
That's bullshit. Who's your source?

Besides at the moment OpenPCI drivers dont support the same variety of different cards than Elbox ones so what's the point of installing the OpenPCI drivers when half of my PCI cards would then sit idle in the Mediator?

I would like to see openpci as an option for Mediator too and i'd encourage the developers of OpenPCI to just ignore the rants from Elbox management completely. There's nothing wrong in a little competition! :)

And I bet nevertheless many many Amiga User keep folowing those lamers like
blind Lemmings... I guess it is really about time to say good bye. Years ago, the community was great, cool guys, on a hogh level. And now? Don`t you see, that it was the "community" which allowed such a company to be succesfull? We all should have stopped them after the P96 Disaster, or at least after the trojan delete code...but now we will even allow them to include competeor dissabling code..
STOP ELBOX NOW!!!

You forgot about Sound Blaster Live/Audigy drivers by Martin Blom, emu10kx.audio require openpci.library to work (And works perfectly, I use it now). The new lowlevel.library also use it, there is some Amithlon drivers that use openpci.lib

There is also some openpci drivers not for the public.

IMHO openpci.lib for mediator is a good option.

This is great. Just wondering though. The MorphOS driver listed above sounds like it's for MOS running on a Classic Amiga. (The website lists a seperate Pegasos driver.)

Is this update available or needed for Peg+MOS? (IE: Do any of the fixes apply to Peg + MOS? :P)

Please release OpenPCI for Mediator. Right now theres no real
advantage (less cards supported) but I see the way things
are going. I als see that if there were more drivers, then more
people might buy Mediators too!

One way or another Elbox's days as a hardware company, are counted. The way I see things, is that in a couple of years, noone will be using custom non-standard hardware. All of us will have the luxury of walking into our local computer shop and selecting, which Radeon or USB 2.0 card we want to buy for our Pegasos or A1 board which is equiped with pci ports as a standard. I have a feeling that the SharkPPC(+) accelerator is vapour, and that all amiga classic users will eventualy purchase a new PPC system to keep along with their old HW.

My advice for anyone with a catweasel mk.3 and a Pegasos: DON'T install this version of openpci. It seems broken. Stick to the one that came with MOS1.4: at least that one actually allowed the catweasel drivers to mount 2 times in 3.

In reply to Comment 28 (XraalE):
Ok, discovered the problem. Raising the stack in the catweasel floppy dosdrivers will prevent the hang and crash when they're mounted using openpci 1.2. It's 4096, better change that to 16384 or so.

Sorry for the alarmist report, but that's the best way to get noticed and have bugs fixed. ;P

If you mean dosdrivers, yes.

If you mean real physical drives (as I suspect), then I'm afraid I can't answer that, sorry. I only have one PC 3.5" floppy drive in my Pegasos.

Yes I do mean dosdrivers, sorry. You can use Amiga DD/HD *AND* PC DD/HD all at the same time without crashing? I seem to be abe to use either one or the other but not both at the same time. I am using the last version of the openpci lib and MOS1.4.

Um, yes. I have DF0_DD, DF0_HD, PH0 and PD0 all mounted simultaneously. No problems since day one.

Current Mediator drivers do work rather well and are stable (in my use) so if they're going to bomb the next batch of updates with anti-e3b code there's no need to install them at all. They cant really force that on us, cant they? ;)
