The first(?) shoutcast streaming solution for Amiga is now available for download at selco.da.ru Audio can streamed directly from the soundcard (AHI-device). Lame is used to encode the MP3 stream. (a PPC equipped Amiga is needed to do the MP3 encoding in realtime). Now you can setup your own Amiga based Internet Radio station. Furthermore its possible to stream pre-encoded files from a given directory. This is possible without a PPC. Last but not least you can "Rebroadcast" other stations and save ("rip") streams to harddisk. Please find the files and a detailed description at http://selco.da.ru

Really cool, I must test this! :-) :-)

Has it been tested with a Pegasos with MorphOS?

Great news! The next Amiga show I broadcast audio from will be broadcast from an Amiga One!

Now to get an NSV broadcaster/player for the Amiga :)

Congratulations!

If I can use this as an opportunity to pimp something that is... on the right track, if not perfect... you may want to take a look at Peercast.org. Due to the 'fragile' nature of the Peercast gnutnet, unless all necessary ifdefs and so on could be snuck back into their CVS, an Amiga client would have to remain 'uncertified' - or fork off and create its own Amiga gnutnet...

But given the state of the existing Peercast net (mostly only popularized in Japan, relatively few 'interesting' content streams/rebroadcasts), this means an Amiga-space network would possibly beat the original, and assuming enough maintainership, there's no reason the same net couldn't be shared across OS3, OS4, MOS and AROS clients. (It's just an issue of ensuring all ports are updated 'in sync,' so everyone can move to the right version of the protocol at the right time... There's less difference between those four OSes than between the Windows and *NIX trees they now maintain, but their core seems to have a hard enough time keeping those together without adding new platforms. Of course, if anyone wants to help them out within the project, I'm sure they'd appreciate it, but that would require an willingness to assist/avoid-breaking-anything with their existing targets, too... ;))

IPv6 with working multicast would, of course, obsolete this, but that's going to be a long time coming in the USA, and IIRC, we aren't getting IPv6 altogether soon on any of the scene OSes anyway. (Unless I'm completely mis-remembering.)

NOPE!

In reply to Comment 6 (tonya):
Well, due to lack of an Pegasos I could not test it there. But if MOS is half as compatible as said then there should be no problem.

I was prepared to buy a PegII G4 but I would like to see some reviews first and now it misses the X-Mas date... But that is really Off Topic here ;)

That's great. Now if only I had a stream _player_ that works... :-|

In reply to Comment 8 (StAn):
There are lots of players that work. Amiplifier works, AmigaNet Radio works, StreamAmi works....

Client is not the issue.

In reply to Comment 13 (StAn):
To be more precise: streamer and aminet radio don't work (the sound stops all the time or loops in the case of ANR).
Amplifier, IIRC, is said to be extremely buggy. I'm sure I tried it some time ago, but I don't think I have tried the latest version.
StreAmi, I don't remember, but I tried it a long time ago... I'll try again.

Ooops sorry, I was thinking "AmigaAmp" when I read/wrote "AMPlifier" ! :-\

I liked and used AMPlifier when I had a 68060, but now that I have a crap 040/25 thanks to this BlizzardPPC board, it is unusable like all AHI software.

Sure ;-) ... ADSL 512 kbps.
ANR fucks up even on local files.

use the PowerPC as much as you can! you're not using the 040 to do the
AHI and MPEG work are you? ouch

I tried this out, streamed some 160kpbs mp3:s from my Pegasos to my
A4k. Seems to work great! Very nice, now maybe if someone could code a
little "run your own radio station" GUI, that f ex automatically let
you switch between microphone and mp3 input (this seems to be
simple to do with this package).

In reply to Comment 19 (Alan LM Buxey):
Of course I'm using the PPC as much as I can... (well, ok, I'm not: I don't use MOS)
But AHI PPC is only available for MorphOS.
There's only one AHI mode where ANR doesn't loop all the time: Paula DMA 8 bits. The "only" problem being that then there is sound only in the left channel... :-\
