Have you heard about the column "Ask Fleecy" at some other website? You know, where people ask simple and straight forward questions and get a nonsense answer in the strange "dotcom-ish" language? Wrongplanet's "Ask Ralph" is just that, but the other way around; the answeres is delivered in the patented "The Ralph Style" (tm). :-)

I found it really spectacular. It's a joke, a pretty good one, so don't take it seriously. :)

C'mon, the great thing about Wrong Planet is, that it at least attempts to distribute the jabs evenly.

Let 'em do parodies of everyone equally. :-)

This was funny. Best of all, tt's both cutting into the "blue side" as well as
handing "the red side" a fair share of the satire. Better writing quality than
previously too. Still is more of a chuckle than a straight out laugh, but it's
getting there.

In reply to Comment 13 (hooligan/dcs):
It depends on people's perceptions. Some people find the jibes at the blue side funny but the ones aimed at the red side to be puerile, and others will see it the other way round.

My own take on this particular one is that it was an opportunity missed. Like you said, the idea was good and had a lot of potential, but the execution left a lot to be desired.

Hint: focus on the joke and exploit it properly (in this case I presume the joke was supposed to be the brusqueness and arrogance of the Ralph character). The stupid questions only serve to detract from the humour.

Verdict: could do better.

Erm - I thought that the whole object of the spoof was to poke fun at the way Fleecy gives a buzzword-laden response to a simple question.

Here, they're asking phenomenally incomprehensible questions (laden with as many buzzwords as they can manage), and "simulating" Ralph answering them - yes, in a brusque and concise manner.

Pretty funny, IMO. To each his own, though.

Of course Ralph is one of the good guys. He is reknowned for giving straight answers, even with the answer is a little too straight. We just thought it made a great contrast to the Ask Fleecy, whos readers seem to like harsh realities wrapped and hidden away in buzzwords and unlikely promises.

The "stupid questions" are just as funny as the brusque answers, if you recognise them as an exaggeration of fleecy's Q&A style.
It's funny how various people are only "getting" one half or the other of the joke, when it seemed to me to be very equally satirical of both parties. I don't understand how people can be so wrapped up in the politics that they would completely miss that.

Or maybe it's a cultural thing. Some cultures don't "do" irony, I hear :)

Nice, but like last time the humor in this escapes me. I didn't think there was much humor in the "encyclopedia amigaca" either so perhaps I just don't see the humor on the same level. Now if the user who created the yellow tabloid (don't remember the name) would come back, that was humor. A direct plug to make someone look like an idiot isn't humor, a poke at the general population making you feel like a fool is humor. The whole "been there done that" syndrome.

Oh, I recognised them for what they were, but they didn't really touch the funny bone.

> It's funny how various people are only "getting" one half or the other of

> I don't understand how people can be so wrapped up in the politics that

You misunderstand. My comment or reaction is not remotely political. I simply feel that mixing the two jokes doesn't work, and neither aspect is actually tackled with much skill.

Sometimes even the most humorous ideas fall flat if they are approached with too much heavy-handedness. IMHO that's what happened here. The humour is just too forced.

> Or maybe it's a cultural thing. Some cultures don't "do" irony, I hear :)

Irony? That's like Goldie or Bronzie only made of iron, isn't it?

Actually, you may be right. Some cultures don't "do" irony.

...at least not very well.

Fair enough, it's not the greatest piece of comedy writing ever, but I'm sure it got the odd chuckle.
And if you had straight questios and funny RS answers, the same people who aren't getting that side of the joke would be complaining that it was a direct attack on Schmidt.
