My reports finally online, take a look at www.ryus-reports.webhop.net for the report, no video this time though :-( The report took longer than anticipated to get online, had to write the tables out by hand because I wasnt satisfied with any of the freeware photoalbum generators on the amiga.

I take it that English is your native language?

Then you should also know that plural is normally expressed with an additional "s" and just that?

"Report's" is short for either "Report is" or "Report has", or indicates that Report possesses some ownership over something, e.g. "The Ryu's Show Report's bad spelling".

Don't take this bad, just trying to be helpful here :)

Oh, and any mistakes on my part when it comes to spelling, is ofcourse due to me not having English as native language.

Hm... back to sleep now.

Yup I realised that after I had completed it, and I really cant be bothered to redo it now, it took me a total of 8 hours to get everything done today, and I still feel exhausted from the show.

Someone at that show should have given Barry Moss such a good kicking instead of gathering round him like a bunch of love struck brain washed zombies.

It's a new model in a Micro ATX formfactor that will use the ArticiaP northbridge and have a custom sensorboard. The custom IO connector from the MicroA1 will find it's way into this model allso.

Yeah by the way, that "Genesi employee" moderated a message which was direct insult toward Amiga Inc. and an Amiga user. Do this, you're wrong. Do that, you're wrong. Go figure.

you know, for some strange reason I'm suspect that if this where a Genesi thread it'd be "[Insert profanety] Amiga [And yet another one]" instead of the other way around like it is in this thread. And I strongly doubt that theese yahoos have any specific "camp" or such. They just use what ever "camp" that seems more fitting for the moment so that they can spout there #### and injure people, so that they can get a short glimpse of power over there enviroment.

Well well what a suprise... I thought to myself when I posted this thread "why am I doing this, it will only end up with flames..." but then i thought, nah, maybe not this time around. Guess my original thought was right, I dont think I'll bother posting any more news items to ann.lu from here on out.

Please don't let the handful of troublemakers discourage you from posting on ANN. Most likely, this is just what they want: reduce the surfing experience for everyone else. By stopping to post, you will only help them in reaching their goal (whatever that might be). I'm sure the majority of visitors appreciate postings such as yours, and I'm doing my best to drown out the noise caused by these few vocal trolls.

@Christian

Just a suggestion, why not create user accounts or inist on becomming a trusted user before being allowed to post, it would stop mindless profanity and personal insults from destroying threads, I enjoy reading most of them (whatever the slant) but am totally put off and depressed at reading the childish slander posted by anonymous posters.

As I said, just a thought.

... or you could simply ignore the messages you don't like? IMO, the option to post anonymously, without creating an account, is one of ann's key strenghts. The same *news* are available at other sites as well, but not the free and open discussions. Those are unique and that is why I come here (amiga.org and ann.lu together gives me my daily dose of amiga web browsing, both in their respective way), as well as many others I am sure. Sure, some posters are mindless trolls (and at other places I am sure they act completely different), but that won't be a problem as long as you don't let it be a problem -- so just ignore them!

Thanks for the report!

But... ;)

Considering this was an "AmigaOS4 [alpha] on tour" show, I was expecting something about... well, you know... AmigaOS4.

All there was to read about AmigaOS was "OS4 has come on leaps and bounds since Benelux".

Yes? We want specifics! Spill it, man! :)

Same thing with the other reports I've read. All in all, so far I've learnt that OS4 alpha has advanced in unspecified areas compared to an unspecified previous state, "OS4 native Quake2" was shown running, that you can choose background colour gradients for menus, and that some hardware dealer doesn't think that the final OS4 will be released in 2 weeks ("before Q1 04").

aye good point it might be, but i specifically left out details... because I felt everything has already been covered in news articles, plus I was really exhausted when I wrote it and didnt fancy being shouted at for getting things wrong, and I also belive if people want to see and know about OS4 they will make an effort to either organise an event themselves or get to one....

> because I felt everything has already been covered in news articles,

I only saw 3 (?) reports from bath. comment #20 summarized quite nicely what these covered re aos4.
either there was nothing worth reporting, or the other reporters thought the same way as you say you do here, ryu.

I mean, heck, if there was nothing worth reporting about os4, why not just say so?

> plus I was really exhausted when I wrote it

fair enough. will we see an updated report when you have recuperated?
anybody else?
or was there nothing to report on?

> and didnt fancy being shouted at for getting things wrong,

so there *was* something to report on, but you didn't for fear of being flamed? yet all reports I've seen, including yours, DO go into details about teron boards, travel problems and whatever.
if you were to be flamed for reporting what you saw/heard about os4 but got it wrong, then simply ignore the unconstructive flames, and update the report according to any helpful corrections.

> and I also belive if people want to see and know about OS4 they will make an effort to either organise an event themselves or get to one....

iow, all these reports could just as well never have been written?

please don't take this the wrong way, it's not as if it's anyone's obligation to write reports (with the possible exception of ainc/hyperion, if they actually want to tell their customers about their product) and I guess most of us are grateful for that you and others bother. I just think it's weird that all of the reports so far have barely MENTIONED aos4. after all, that's what this 'tour' was supposed to be all about.

Truth be told im not sure anyone at the show knows what exactly has changed in OS4, at least not to any great detail... which you lot seem to demand. I think a lot of the reasons your not seeing much news on OS4 from the bath show is because there was no one from hyperion there to tell us what had been done.. I mean to me it wasnt staringly obvious... all I saw was OS4 running faster and more stable than it was at benelux, I also got a chance to see roadshow... but apart from that I dont know... I would hazard a guess that OS4 has changed a lot in the form of bug fixing, but thats about it, most if not all of the features are already in OS4 now so I dont expect there to be anymore great big announcments except the one where OS4 is released... As for further changing my report... No i wont be, I have other things to be doing now.

So in closing... do I think anything was worth reporting on OS4... not really no, except its faster and more stable..., does that make it disapointing in anyway... no I dont think it does. I mean, isnt that all we should be expecting now, is bug squashing gearing up for a final release?

The main thing still missing seems to be the JIT emulator.

JIT has bin a part of AmigaOS4.0 for long time now, As I understand it the default emulator is the interpreted one as it more stable, how ever if you like to boost speed on your program then you can select the JIT on per task bases,

Or maybe this has changed; I think every thing targeted for AmigaOS4.0 is in place,
MUI, Reaction, Native Intuition, Snap drivers, MiniGL, RoadShow TCP/IP, built inn debugger, memory protection, stack enlargement, new datatypes, new hdtoolbox, AmigaInput, and the list goes on.

I appreciate it must be a bit frustrating if your own specific questions are leftunanswered by a show report, but bear in mind the following:The writer may not have the expertise to be able assimilate the info.(probably true in my case). The info may not have been available. They are not trying to sell you anything - hopefully. :)I haven't seen OS4.0 running before, and the newest version I saw at the show had been installed at the show - so even the owner of the miggy it was runningon was unable to give any "first impressions".I think the hard info needs to come from Hyperion/Eyetech - if it doesn't its difficultfor somebody like myself to get the details.I barged into this because the "coloured menu backgrounds" referred to my report.Sorry. :)
