Version 4.22 of the MorphOS native CygnusED (CED) is now available. Changes since initial release:

Requesting AMIGAGuide© Help by pressing the HELP key caused a crash.
Current directory is now correct if launched from WB.
The -keepio and -sticky arguments now work properly.
Printing shouldn't crash anymore.

Changes since last update:

Ported MetaMac and RecoverCEDFiles.
Fixed printing, it was still broken.
Fixed macro loading/saving.

MOS native port probably means they have the sourcecode.. so unless it's released for free of use, I'd guess they have exclusive.

Olaf Barthel is the "maintainer" of CED. It's very possible he was contracted to do a port if this particular release is "MOS-only." As for exclusive, that would be rather silly of Olaf as a coder, IMO, and to be honest doesn't sound like something he'd do.

But then, maybe someone more "in the know" can give us the "skinny" on this. :)

Excuse me?! Are you always this nice and polite to people who are devoted to AmigaOS? Do you even know how much time, effort and energy Olaf 'Olsen' Barthel has given the AmigaOS platform? Olaf and I have no problem with each other. We have dialoged as Amiga employees/contractors on more than one occasion. If you find my opinion insulting, then you shouldn't be reading ANN as 99% of the comments here are *far* more "insulting" than mine, which I don't consider insulting whatsoever.

Now that that's out of the way, my comments stand. To wit:

It would be "silly" because I'm sure Olaf wants to keep open the possibility of as many revenue streams as possible for his hard work. As a software developer myself, I would keep that door open.

I didn't do the MorphOS port (Ralph Schmidt and Frank Mariak took care of that)
and CygnusEd is not exclusively licensed to run on MorphOS. The code in its current
form is still owned by Bruce Dawson, with the subsequent changes following the 3.5+
release being mine. That CygnusEd was ported to MorphOS can be attributed to the
fact that Ralph, Frank and me have known each other for a long time and because I
didn't see much of a reason to deny Ralph's request to work on a port. Let me remind
you that the original MorphOS port is more than two years old, when the relationship
between Amiga and the budding MorphOS project was still very different. It's just
that the development over time has led all of us to this strange situation in which
just about everybody seems to feel like reaching for a knife whenever meeting a
supporter of the respective other camp. Do I consider that silly? You bet.

As for OS4 support in CygnusEd: well, why not? It's just that the spare time available
to me at the moment hasn't allowed me to put any work into it. Add to that that the
commercial availability of the current CygnusEd version is zip. I'd have to find a
new distributor before I could make an OS4 port available.

Large parts used to be written in assembly language, such as the code which
formats the text buffer contents for display on screen. Same goes for the
fast scrolling code and the hand-tuned topaz/8 text printing routines. I
had my share of troubles getting these rewritten in 'C'. At the same time I
also switched compilers for the project (CygnusEd used to be built with
Manx Aztec 'C' 5.0a). The editor and its supporting tools are fairly portable
today, as long as the operating system is AmigaOS-like.

There is no such restriction. It's just that getting the product published
is a far slower process than I had expected. I already had the first publisher
jump the project in mid stream. Now I'm dealing with another publisher who
has put more work into the product than the first one, yet we're still not
particularly close to a release date. I'm disappointed, but what can I do?
It just goes to show that the Amiga market is not particularly sound any
more.

Are you kidding? Every Golded I tried in the last five years had tabs. But does your PC editor have folding and everything-configurable and plug-ins and rexx and REAL filetypes like GoldED Aix, not just a major and minor mode? PC editors suck. They are good with IDE things but lousy editors.

I suppose they are merely selling off old stock. No new CDs were made
after "Stefan Ossowski's Schatztruhe" was acquired by GTI and sales
were already declining when that had happened.
