In a surprising newspiece over at alternative computer site Amiga.org, details are given about another $2000 USD donation to the AmiZilla booty, which brings up the sum to a shocking $8411.22! (this item is an ANN follow-up).

That is not shocking, only a hardcore obsessed Amiga Inc fan would do a port, this platform is not worthy of a decent web browser so you amigans should be stuck with crap like ibrowse FOREVER.

The downside of slashdot is that it's full of linux x86 talibans that hate anything different. On the other hand a minority of its readers will find it interesting :-)

They would be a welcome addition to the Amiga community, they look even tempered and docile compared to our own xealots.

I think we need them, it would be good for the community to have "outsiders" who won't swallow alot of the crap many here do on a daily basis. If anything here is ever to be successful in the real world, we have to start holding these companies in the community to real world standards.

The Amizilla booty program has proven to be quite successful in getting donors, and I think, will be successful in its mission too. Great Job amizilla team!

Is the bounty only for a Mozilla port, or is any Amiga browser that's as good, valid?

At least as far as this new ubercontributer (from netscape) goes, it's for mozilla only from how it reads.

What I posted on the Amizilla list:

> Bill Panagouleas :
>Genesi wanted to match the booty several months ago but never did.

Not entirely correct. I suggest you reread what I wrote to you on the
main Phoenix mail list about what it would take for me to OK matching
the booty. BBRV agreed entirely with me, in a following message. And
well he should since it was my idea to have Genesi and Phoenix match
funds should we feel conditions for success (besides funding) were
favorable.

And you never responded in full. It would not be responsible of me to
just hand over that much money without wanting some better chance at
seeing the project completed. I've not seen progress reports, nor
gotten a sense that there is much direction, and I would like to see a
logo or mascot that is more professional. I also think that KHTML
should be considered a fair goal, and that it would be better to
assemble the talent into one team instead of dividing it into groups
that may not have enough hours to complete something the community
needs a lot earlier.

It is possible some of my points are wrong, or are neither here nor
there. But they were not addressed by you, and so the dialog has
stalled. Without that dialog, how else am I to see my concerns
addressed or refuted? I am not set in stone, but neither am I the
happy-go-lucky type I appear to be ; }

>Now I am afraid they will not be able to afford it.

I understand greenboy but keep in mind my role in AmiZilla is that of
fund raiser, marketing and administrator of the prize money. The
programming teams would be the ones to contact about project status,
development, updates etc. This is a programming contest so is a little different then one formal team working towards a goal for pay. I did ask Bill Buck to send a formal proposal a few months back so I could forward it to the programmers but did not get that yet. I had a Russan artist working on another mascot but she
has not come through yet so I have contacted the artist that did the
offical Mozilla mascot and he is interested.

In reply to Comment 17 (greenboy):
I respect all the hard work Phoenix and Genesi have done for MorphOS and Pegasos. Competition has helped Amiga OS 4.0 and MorphOS both improve. It is not required that Genesi contribute to AmiZilla but it would also help them to have a modern standards compliant browser for MorphOS. I thought now that the booty was over $8400 that they might no longer be able to afford to double the pot but Wayne from Genesi said that I am incorrect in this assumption, that is good news. Mozilla is an application platform delivery system and its availablity for Amiga and MorphOS will go a long way to add respect back for our Amiga compatible systems. Today we are a laughing stock in many circles but it does not have to stay this way. I agree the programmers should step up though and announce leadership like greenboy said. Except for the team in Russia which are already organized pretty well and don't want to share information about their efforts since they are trying to win.

As far as the Amiga market is concerned, this will not change until there is some kind of management change in Amiga Inc or they go out of business.

Except for the team in Russia which are already organized pretty well and don't want to share information about their efforts since they are trying to win.

Which could possible put off some people from contributing due to lack of information.
