Happy New Year to Everyone! We wish a great 2004 to any and all people reading this message. :-D Here are our New Years Resolutions...

1. Spend more time contributing to WrongPla.net and less time to ANN!

Without a doubt the best website of the year is WrongPla.net. The authors are well written, smart and funny. We have decided that there is too much animosity flowing through ANN so we have decided to stop posting serious information here. Undoubtedly, that will make some of you very happy. It is too bad. We have tried the "good" approach and the "bad" approach. The trolls have persisted and frankly it makes everyone (both sides) look bad. Just look at the trash that is here now -- blue, red, blue, red, etc. Crazy! There is no accountability and there is often a gross lack of responsibility. Amiga.org is often the same (but, not as bad). We have actually removed the links to ANN and amiga.org from the Genesi site (see Marketing page). We have a product now and do need to put up with it any longer. It is just not worth it to expose the new people coming to the Pegasos and MorphOS (or any of the other operating systems running on the platform) to all the junk and jerks. You will find us in a serious vein exclusively on MorphOS-News and MorphZone now (and WrongPla.net!).

2. Attack the big commercial markets

We have a real product now. After trying to work with the "Amiga Community" and the Community Resellers for some time we have decided to completely reorganize our program and approach. The people that are interested in MorphOS are involved. We have over 450 registered developers on the MorphOS Developer Connection. We have our own momentum. On the Resellers side, we will look forward to working with some and others would do better to just concentrate on alternatives. We are in the final stages of achieving design and commercial wins on big projects. We just do not have the time to lose on people that yield limited returns and require too much attention. We are looking for partners with initiative, creativity and ambition and nothing less.

3. Completely reorganize Genesi

Without a product it is hard to build a company. Now that we have one! We can finally do what needs to be done. We have been through a trial and error period with technology and with people too. Some we judged correctly and some not. In any case, the focus changes now and so will some of the personnel. In the meanwhile, personally, we have been through an awful period. Not only with the delays associated with the Articia, but with the former Pretory S.A. of Paris. The full story behind this company has not yet been released (and may never be) and a few issues still need to be resolved. These things take time. We posted some new information about this on MooBunny today (and that will be it). In any case, the final situation of Pretory will not effect Genesi. The Press is now on the right trail. Anyway, our next public statement will be about the new organization for Genesi. You can expect this before 15 January 2004.

In closing, we would like to add that as difficult as this period has been that we are both personally and commercially *very* proud to be working with Thomas and Gerald, the MorphOS Core Development Team and the hundreds of active, motivated and capable MorphOS Developers. It has been a challenging time for everyone and now things WILL change. Gerald and Thomas have done something that will bring credit to them for the rest of their lives and the same goes for Ralph and the whole Core MorphOS Development Team. We are very proud to be working with you.

Finally, Happy New Year and best wishes for a great 2004 to ALL readers!

R&B :-)

Thank you for that. After the excellent presentation of Genesi's products over the past year or so, I was begining to think that something had gone very wrong over the past week. But obviously, most of the rubbish being said is just rumour. I think my fears have been allayed, and I can go back to my plans to buy a Peg2 and finally jump off the fence and into a blue-coloured garden!

You know, I'm sick of you. All you do is whimper and whine about anything that isn't what YOU want. The biggest attraction I have to Amiga and Pegasos/Morph platforms is that they offer a CHOICE, but you seem to want to demolish one those choices. I think you need to move on to Microsoft fora, where there is only one choice... (well, unless you consider the options of XP or 2000 to be separate and adequate choices of course).

In short, stop trying to do everything you can to make sure that the options we have now are taken away forever.

Some comments from me:

1. "You will find us in a serious vein exclusively on MorphOS-News and MorphZone now"

That might be a sensible thing to do. The admins of these sites might have to sharpen their moderation machetes though (perhaps even a bit like amigaworld.net, but hopefully not in a way that scares away any free thinking, intelligent human beings), since there will be a risc that the trolls will follow you over there.

IMHO, it was a good thing that you have your own "brands" (otherwise this would not have been as easy) instead of depending on the Amiga name, which IMO is somewhat affiliated with "lunacy" these days and has a tendency of attracting trolls towards anyone that even posts on Amiga-"branded" web forums. Perhaps it's better to build something brand new, *with* the original amiga spirit and *with* the real amiga experience, but free of the name and its cultish associations.

From an amiga community point of view, this means that morphos-news.de, morphzone.org and amigaworld.net will be corporate websites for their respective companies, ann.lu and amiga.org etc will not, just like before.

2. "Attack the big commercial markets", "We have our own momentum", "We are in the final stages of achieving design and commercial wins on big projects"

This is an interesting and important stage of your development. I guess you have done a lot of investments and now it is time to see if you did the right thing. Baptism of fire. Will the wings hold?

But those words I quoted above could very well have come from *any* startup at the stage you are in now. Sometimes there are real substance behind these kind of words, sometimes there isn't. I hope that you really have some big projects going on and that you succed with attacking the big commercial markets. Time will tell.

3. "Completely reorganize Genesi", "We have been through a trial and error period with technology and with people too. Some we judged correctly and some not."

I guess it's a natural thing to do when narrowing the focus in the preparations for the "baptism of fire". It will be interesting to see how the new organization turns out, allthough I have a hunch of a change in at least one case. Fast turns in this regard is something that differs small startup companies from larger, more established companies. The organizational culture (or lack thereof) is another thing that is affected. There are great differencies when working in a startup and in a large organization (I have tried both), both in job security and mutual expectations. Perhaps not everyone will realize this? Anyway, I guess that some disappointment and bitternes might be visible on the web in various forms because of this.

And a question (if I may ask (actually, I may, but I might not get an answer ;-) )):

You are asking a lot of people (developers, resellers, etc) to commit, but at the same time it's allways some uncertainty involved with startups. A certain risc. There has been some specualtion about your current financial position, so I ask you, do you honestly feel you are strong enough to push it all the way? And also, what is the current status on "Genesi going public"?

My job has absolutely nothing to do with Pegasos, MorphOS, Genesi or the Amiga community at all, I can assure you that. I am here for hobby, I have been since the Amiga was young, and I have followed the movements and developments in the community with interest during the last years. The purpose of the above post was not to insult anyone and if you think so you should read it again. I have my opinion regarding that site though, and (at least here) I am free to express my opinions in public. Like it or not!

Sometimes stuff gets delayed. In this case: because of work on the Pegasos II.

If Amiga fans can wait 2 years for an OS that was to take "a couple months"
then MorphOS fans can wait a few extra months for the Amiga version of
MorphOS 1.x.

Hi.. I agree a most of your commets.. so I make shor somments.

1) Good.. These Ann-lu explorations and fumbles have caused too much damage to public image of Genesi and especially BBRV... I know many people who might consder Pegasos if there weren't BBRV ..

2) What worries me on Geneis is the amount of Evangelzation and Fleecying lately. I'd like to see Genesi success and a lot Pegasos sold.. but .... Well.. we see. It'll may be they are having a big plan and it'll work. But that'll be seen in time.

3) A high time. There have been problems on Genesi organization.. I could name at least a couple persons at sales dep to be prime cadidates for instant sacking.

In the end.. I like Pegasos .. This second release is way better than first one and even though MorphOS 1.4 ain't perfect it has it's good points and It'll get better in time.
