I just thought it was worth mentioning that IBM will attend the AmiGBG-fair in Gothenburg and talk a bit about the future for the PowerPC architecture.

Neat

I hope someone will make recording or write a short review on this one. It's important to hear what IBM is planing to do.

If IBM attends 'Ami' GBG it means they support AMIGA Inc!?!? How could this be?

hmmm... It might be easier to get IBM to participate in a Scandinavian Amiga show than AmigaInc.

disappointed/bitter ? me ? No way...

There is a difference between "IBM attends show" and "sombody working at IBM attends show". It might just be the latter in this case, a former Amiga fan now working at IBM?

I think there is at least one current Amiga fan who works at a branch of IBM.

However, IBM want to sell PPC chips. If there is any chance that the AmigaOne boards might sell well, it will be worth while for IBM to support the product.

:D

Mikael Haglund works at IBM's Swedish branch in Gothenburg (as product manager, I believe). I don't think it's too farfetched to assume that someone in AmiGBG knows him or that he's an AmiGBG member / old Amiga user himself. Some of us do have jobs and lives outside of "the community" as well. :)

IBM-the-company probably has better things to do than trying to sell PPC chips to 50 people drooling over a Teron. Any news on the future of PPC are likely to appear at ibm.com, CeBIT or Comdex before they hit a restaurant in Lindholmen. ;)

Yeah, sure IBM would want nothing better than to ignore all future markets except Genesi.

Sure. Keep telling yourself that.

IBM also visited some Swedish Amiga fair around '96 or '97. Well, good
news, certainly more interesting to me than Redhouse. ;-)

Think that was Motorola, if we refer to the same one..?

along the lines of: "screw desktops, we only care about embedded stuff"... ;)

Mikael Haglund isn't a member of ACGGBG and no one in the organizer group knows him and he's not an old Amiga user to my knowledge.

So it's got nothing to do with that.

I think IBM supports any platform that has use for IBM PPC chips, and thus send money in IBM's direction.Be it AmigaOne or Pegasos, be it G3 or 970, whatever. Why would IBM choose one over the other? I'd imagine they most likely choose both as customers. IBM would want both to sell lots, and it would not be productive to IBM for them to hope one of their customers does well and the other fails, IBM would want all of their customers to do well, and thus have the most IBM PPC chips sold that way. Anything else would be absurd.

Starting to look like a cool show!
And the fair is just 3 hours by flight from London. Just 14.99 GBP at regular price with ryanair. Could be a cool Amiga weekend. Never been to sweden.
Any other blokes going from the UK?

What a coincidence!. I was looking through my junk box for 7447 TTL chips yesterday. I needed to drive some 7-segment displays!
A board with these chips on it would be good for the junk-box ;-)
