I have read of this very interesting and promising program on amiganews. Take a look at the rendered images into the gallery section and enjoy it.

The program itself looks interesting, but *NO GUI*!? <shrugs!>

Indeed, with a good GUI it could be a killer!

Not to spoil your broth, guys, but have you ever heard of PoV Ray? http://www.povray.org/

Ports of it exist for AmigaOS as well as AROS, and of course it's got no gui, but frontends exist. Last but not least, it's open source.

Could this program be a good tool for benchmarking systems?

AOS and MorphOS are soon going to be killing the PC platform with all these killer apps.

I know it, but I liked a lot the rendering pics of KRAY, about POV, I though it still had no GUI front-end...

Yeah, and you got to show me were you could find such quality in final renderings..
Anyway, this thread is about potential, and that's what we are talking about.. until a major Software house ports his software for Amiga/MorphOS (beside Real3D) there's the best we can have, unless on your time travels you see Maxon or Newtek returning to Amiga...

Not bad, yes, but how about these?

In reply to Comment 10 (Fabio Alemagna):
So what are the POV-Ray people using for modelling and scene layout?

A renderer doesn't really need a GUI as you only have to give it the name of a scene file plus a few parameters (image size etc). But you can hardly do object modelling or layout and animation without a GUI.

Scripting has its limits. We had to use it back in the days of Sculpt-4D, but since Lightwave and Imagine arrived, nobody wants to look back that far.

Moray is one, there are tons of others available on the net (take a look at freshmeat).

Povray's home page is a good starting point to know everything about povray.

Yes, Fabio, we did...

And if you remeber well, previous month (last decmber) I point just to Povray in a discussion about Niche OS's for Mainstream Markets.

My comment was number 12regarding the superbundle of MorphOS

And that's what I said:

That doesn't compute ......

GUI = I intended a Font-end

easy recompile = If front-ends are made for Linux under GPL, all a programmer need is to pick up the GCC code and just re-compile it for Amiga PPC or MorphOS.

Many Amiga programmers use to port directly Linux programs to Amiga and MorphOS in these days...

mPlayer is a typical example...

GUIs are written with a widget system (GTK, wxWindow, Qt ...). I haven't heared that any of these is available for AmigaOS.

GCC will recompile the code, sure! but any un*x -> AmigaOS port of a GUI frontend would require MAJOR amounts of work invested in creating a MUI/ReAction/Gadtools conversion. we dont have GTK+ or XUL etc on AmigaOS

Ehhh, have you even seen the MorphOS MPlayer sources? I guess not, because you'd know it's everything other than a "simple recompile" from Linux sources...

Duh..?

GTK was not available trhu Geek Gadgets?

Even that old and slooow release will become plain usable (and pretty) into APPC or MOS

Now I'm a bit surprised. I have tought that porting of Linux software with GUI is difficult, because the Linux GUI systems aren't available for AmigaOS.

We cannot compare rendering quality (and speed) on such pictures. Best way is to render the same scene with both programs.
