LAME is a highquality and ultrafast MP3 encoder released under the LGPL.

The new 3.95.1 recompile for MorphOS uses libnix, so no need for ixemul.library, but you have now take care for enough stack (also see readme).

Normaly you could build the binary from source tarball very easily yourself but some of you may not have the time (or are too lazy) to startup GCC. :-)

So, get it from here. Hope you'll have some use for it.

Just added a small fix - thx to henes for info. Should now work without setting the stack manually (I hope ;-)

So if you have already downloaded it (before 22:43CET, 17th Jan) then please download it again (very same archiv). Sorry for the inconveniences.

It takes me about 1 minute to encode a 40MB16bit AIFF file to mp3 128Kbps j-stereo.I use the MpegEncGUI too of course. :)(Pegasos II G4 1Ghz)

Can we expect AltiVec support for G4 Pegasoses??? Such a optimization would be reall cool ;)

I tested first song on Björks "Post" album here, 39.85 Mb and the result
from using this encoder on my Peg2 is what follows :

Using polyphase lowpass filter, transition band: 19383 Hz - 19916 Hz
Encoding Ram Disk:01_AudioN_03_54_08.aiff to Ram Disk:01_AudioN_03_54_08.mp3
Encoding as 44.1 kHz 192 kbps j-stereo MPEG-1 Layer III (7.3x) qval=3
Frame | CPU time/estim | REAL time/estim | play/CPU | ETA
8961/8963 (100%)| 1:00/ 1:00| 1:01/ 1:01| 3.8488x| 0:00
average: 192.0 kbps LR: 1732 (19.32%) MS: 7232 (80.68%)

What about a new Lame module for Second Spin ?
Or a full CDDB support in MpegEncGui ?
