IMO they should have at least put up a link to www.amiga.com to let readers see the new OS4 with their own eyes.

AMigaOs4 a vapour OS ?
Oh my God! It's time for a lot of Amigainc and Hyperion friends to start to cry on Wired forums and mails.
How can be called vapour a product "That we'll be released in 2 months (NOVEMBER 2001)"?
I thought that it was only a Eva (me) idea.
But, guess what, one of the most important Tech Magazine granted Aos4 in this Topten (not Eva, my dear trolls).
And this happened also when Amiga (and all related stuff) is considered a dead rotten corpse.
Prolly, if some Wired editor readed a bit of Aos4 story during those 3 years on ANN or AmigaOrg, Amigaos4 wloud be second only behind Longhorn.

In the big world customers do not care how many years you waited for, how many years it is after Commodore's demises, what kind of problem there were...

When history repeats itself this must mean that AmigaOS is to be released soon,
just as the AmigaOne was after the 9th place last year ;-) (of course we already
knew that did we?) Next year it has to be AmigaDE on the no. 9 spot then...

That it was a Genesi engineer pointing it out, well, does not matter, only
06/2001 - 01/2004 = 4 yrs, what a math is that? Trapped of a time warp? People
must be wondering at reading that :)
(apart from that OS4 in Jun 01 meant AmigaOne1200/4000, never released, both.
Hyperion only started OS4 for SE/XE in Nov 2001, it'd be only fair not to merge
those. But of course, the 'fog of history', time blurs the facts. Nitpicking
yes, but that's just the same currency that is used vs. AmigaInc./Hyperion/
Eyetech all the time).

Oh, btw, when compared to the AmigaOne whose Earlyb[i|oa]rd offer was started in
Nov 02 and delivery in Dec 02, the Peg II would have nicely qualified for this
years list too, if only it'd be on the radar of Wired.com. Amiga surely is. :)

Ciao, Alex

ps: Just to make it clear: Nothing vs. Genesi, I might even get a Peg III once
it's ready (whatever is the first to support PPC9xx, AmigaOne or Peg ;-) only
I am a 15 yrs.+ AmigaOS user so my preferences for the main system are clear
when the OS is still/again alive, as AmigaOS4.x is for sure ;-)

pps: I'd also like MorphOS on the AmigaOne, w/o reflashing the ROM of course. :)

Well methinks wired.com are going to be eating their words in a few weeks when the beta is released, but then what do I know? I do know that it's not exactly surprising to see Nate Downes dissing OS4. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but we all know that OS4 has been in closed Beta testing for a while now, and isn't just a "pre-alpha". So really, Nate hasn't just been an idiot - he's been an inaccurate idiot. Isn't that known as trolling?

Secondly, it's amusing to see the usual clowns get in a dig at the expense of amigaworld.net - although I have to admit I wasn't expecting it from itix. Besides which, Gregg, there's nothing particularly inflammable in that thread. But you already knew that, and decided it was time for the usual "amigaworld.net" bitching thread I suppose. It's amusing to see that even though ANN has officialy banned any mention of amigaworld.net, people still link to threads on that site to cause trouble.

Isn't it time you all got over their moderation policy if you don't like it. These threads are getting pretty tiresome IMO. At least keep it to the bunny. anyway.

I'm not blaming Nate for OS4 receiving the award - far from it, OS4 isn't out yet, and therefore could be classified as vapour according to Wired (along with MorphOS so it seems). However, Nate Downes' comments are simply bare-faced lies. If he had said something along the lines of "still not released, but is in beta" (as is the case) I'm sure nobody would have complained.

It's funny though. People diss some of the people on aw.net (or the entire website so it seems) for having a go at Nate, but who remembers what happened when Mike B said something negative towards MorphOS that certain people considered to be lies?

As in previous years, software in a never-ending, pre-release, beta-testing stage is considered vaporware, even if it's widely available. It hasn't shipped until it's shrink-wrapped.

Likewise hardware. Prototypes may exist in some company's lab, but it's vaporware until it hits store shelves.

The thread title inevitably drives the thread to a discussion of the virtues (or lack thereof) of Nate Downes; how is this not trolling? Don't agree with me? Just read the thread.

> who remembers what happened when Mike B said something negative towards
> MorphOS that certain people considered to be lies?

The comparison is so contrived that I'm surprised you even thought of it. Mike repeated a highly contentious, probably libellous accusation in the context of a product review; Wired independently voted AOS4 vapour, and for colour quoted Nate's summary of the state of AOS4 which was inaccurate in the details but fundamentally correct in the status.

Nate certainly can talk through his arse, and it's perfectly valid to criticse him for that; but we all know what this kerfuffle is really about - the inability of certain people to accept that AOS4 was promised for delivery in 2003 numerous times, and was not delivered.

People who have a problem accepting reality are rarely worth the effort of intelligent conversation; are you going to prove me wrong?

Happy you made a link to that image, you know the initial idea where to make a MorphOS clone or even use it, push new hardware and make an emulator or some thing, so the development can continue on PPC, I think Tendic-France or bplan where the contracted for the hardware, what a waste of time, they should never have trussed this idiots, I think there where tow or tree reversions of the AmigaOne accelerator card be fore the hole idea where drooped all to getter, software development never really started due to no hardware.

The beta product you Se to day The AmigaOne XE/SE is developed by MAI, the AmigaOS4.0 is an OS not an hosted emulator like some of the other products out there.
and as you know the current product have bin inn development for tow years now, so the argument is at best false,

Yes I have bin wating from 1992 until now for new Amiga, that makes 11 years of waiting, there are 360 days inn year, tow months are 56 days,

56 days over schedule * 100 percent / (360 days i a year * 11 years) = 1.4 percent extra waiting,
I think that is nothing compared whit the 98.6 percentage I have waited already, we are almost there.

:D

One moew thing AmigaInc have bin alive sines what 1999? until now 2004 that make it 5 year,
that make them one of the longest living Amiga Companies after commodore using the Amiga brand name,

Well, Nate Downes did label OS4 vapourware, so technically there is nothing wrong with the title of the thread. However, I agree it makes it seem like Nate Downes was the entire cause of the Wired article. My original point about there being nothing flammable in the thread stands, however. Nate Downes DID label OS4 vapourware. Surely, you can't say that is trolling?

Agreed, it was a contrived comparison. But the fact is, both parties were telling half-truths about a "rival" (""s for MikeB's benefit) product. Or is this not so?

Something is puzzling my mind. What exactly is the difference between a closed beta OS (OS4) and an open beta OS (MorphOS) as far as vapourware is concerned? I mean, it is public knowledge that MorpOS is in beta, as has been agreed on by users and staff of Genesi. Ofcourse, one can juggle with what is beta or not... but if the OS is not ready for normal users but only for geeks, then i think we are walking a very thin line here, very close to beta.

Hmm...seems a bit dodgy to me. Oh well... not really worth discussing about. Answering to such obvious trolling efforts is so boring and a waste of time.
