It's a shame that AmigaOne ATX motherboards are overpriced. The Pegasus are a much better value with 1GHz G4 CPU, Gigabit Ethernet and PCI-X slots. Too bad they're not running AmigaOS 4. :(

I hope they'll make AmigaOne Lite motherboards for under 500$ us.

PCI-X slots ? Even if it would be right, PCI-X would be quite useless for Joe user.
- Is it really available NOW or are the preorders resuming for the next production batch ?
- When will the resellers be shipped ?
- Can we expect it to be available for a few months or is it just another small batch ?

Available now.

I don't have any information for the rest of your questions, however.

No. It's an Amiga Inc/Eyetech problem. And it's a huge problem.

When the most expensive computer product is priced higher than the cheapest Mac computer then there is a serious problem. Mac are renowned for being expensive. Amigas aren't.

Buy 100+ boards from Genesi, get licenses from Amiga Inc and U-Boot/OS4 from Hyperion. Now you have full A1 clone you could sell under another label :)

Not yet, that is. It makes no sense for Hyperion to talk about OS4 for Pegasos mainboards while OS4 is still unfinished (even for the A1). But when that hurdle is taken, I wouldn't be surprised about a complete u-turn. The A1 hardware alone will simply not generate enough sales for OS4 and tapping into the Pegasos user base must be tempting. The good thing for Amiga Inc and Hyperion is that they do not have a big investment in hardware (poor Eytech does). Genesi, on the other side, could not afford to promote the A1 by selling MorphOS for it since they want to sell boards more than software.

With PCI-X, people can have better Hard drives and get better performance out of their system. I never understood why people pay outrageous sums like 500$ us for an ATI 9800 Pro video card then turn back and ask why people by expensive SCSI hard drives!

I have met some folks who want Ultra 320 SCSI hard drives only. And after testing SATA hard drives, I don't blame them. PATA and SATA are poor multitaskers and CPU hogs. SCSI should have been the standard long ago. <sarcasm>But then they would not have successfully screwed over the customer.</sarcasm>

I wanted a SCSI Ultra 2 Hard drive for my AmigaOne ATX motherboard but it's not a supported configuration. Even though the AmigaOne ATX motherboard has 1 PCI 32bit/66MHz slot which would be fine for SCSI Ultra 2 hard drive and a SCSI DVD-ROM drive.

IIRC MorphOS already support several x86 SCSI controller cards. Why can't they use PCI-X x86 Ultra 320 SCSI controller cards? If they write the proper drivers then what's wrong?

I guess I also don't get it.

Genesi should take out PCI-X from their press releases. I've always though they had PCI-X slots on the Peg2. My bad.

But then it doesn't matter. I'm not in the market for a Pegasus, I want an AmigaOne.

I don't get it because:
-1- Peg2 does not provide PCI-X slots
-2- PCI-X cards are rare and I have never seen anyone using one in a desktop. Maybe a server requiring a lot of IO or an NLE system without compression / several tracks would take advantage of it but I don't get what the regular user would gain.

-1- see Comment 27
-2- The regular user would gain speed and throughput. I have seen plenty of LCI Ultra 320 on-board chipsets in Dell and IBM workstations. Same chipset also used in low-cost(sub-1000$) Dell PowerEDGE servers with PCI-X slots. The Apple G5s also come with PCI-X slots. Video people would benefit from PCI-X immensely with Firewire. You want your CPU to spend as much time doing encoding and not waste it by taking a huge hit from the cheap IDE controllers. PCI-X should be standard by now. But then again IDE should have been phased out long ago.

Point taken. Even if firewire is not usable in morphOS ATM and if only a very small fraction of the people would ever go to PCI X / U320 controlers.

IMHO I would better have firewire and a nice NLE now than an useless PCI-X

Depending on SB chipset e.g. using MS's UDMA5 IDE drivers, nForce2’s IDE controller and 2Ghz CPU, the processor overhead is only ~0~5 percent** on 512MB MPEG2 file copying.
