[Rant] Freedom of speech is no more on a popular Amiga site.ANN.lu

Today a so-called Amiga site which was supposed to allow freedom of speech has now become a exposed heavily censored website, webmasters acting like children insulting members of the site just because they stand up and say what they think.

I feel betrayed.

Check it out yourself here

I said it before, and i'll say it again, if you don't like the services a site provides, don't go there & leave them be.

Be it ANN.LU, AmigaWorld.Net, Amiga.Org or any of the other sites.

Cheers

I was a regular on Amiga.org but was attacked by moderators because i was in their terms a "Religious scumbag" who should stop being christian or get banned. i asked why i am being treated badly but the only reply i got said "if you do not like the site just f--k off bible boy).

My new home is Amigaworld.net and i am happy to be there in a place of peace.

Billsey,

Thanks for your rabidly skewed opinion. It -- like that of "Darren" and "Jordan" demonstrates clearly that the viewpoint of individuals depends entirely on what they want to see, not necessarily on the truth.

As far as I am aware -- I cannot speak for any moderator -- You were never asked to "stop being Christian" (the faith, not the person). You were asked -- repeatedly -- to stop cramming your faith down everyone's throats all the time. It got to the point where every day, you were posting the "Christian viewpoint" and using Amiga.org as a pulpit.

You were never banned, nor were you even asked to leave Amiga.org. You were simply asked to respect the viewpoints and faith of others -- which you were failing to do -- from a less "zealotous" viewpoint. Your leaving was 100% your choice.

Billsey,

To continue, if another moderator actually attacked you (calling you a "religious scumbag") in this manner, why did you not approach me with it? If I actually discovered that ANY moderator attacked you in such a manner, they would not be a moderator any longer. That goes for *almost* any situation, not just yours.

No, I'm suggesting moderators moderate, not dictate.

Sending the baby home because you aren't happy with it still leaves you with no baby. It's about as useful as having a school with no pupils.

Moderators need to remember that they are providing a service, not feeding their egos with petty demonstrations of their power.

That's not going to happen. Actually it will, if you want me to open "Buddhist", "Satanist", "Baptist", "Catholic", "Agnostic" and "Other" forums and allow everyone to freely express their opinions there. We all know how that would work out, so don't hold your breath.

Amiga.org (and I'm willing to bet ANN, Moobunny, and even AmigaWorld.net) are NOT about religion the way you would want it to be and your form of "enthusiasm" about your religion isn't particularly appreciated to other people. If that is your thing, then you REALLY should restrict yourself to religious sites, but that's probably not as much fun to you as trying to convert all us "unwashed masses".

Now, that being said.... If someone on my moderation staff overstepped their bounds, then *I* apologize but I would ask for some -- ANY -- evidence of this transgression. I'm certainly not calling you a liar, but the idea that MikeyMike would have said such things is seemingly absurd.

Unfortunately so far you can offer no proof and if it were such an issue, you should have brought it to me much earlier. Admins do not have the ability to read, or remove the private messages of others. Once sent, a PMail message is out of the control of the sender. It's even difficult for ME to view anyone's private messages when necessary -- requiring manual database manipulation, so I KNOW a moderator couldn't have removed private messages.

So, that leaves us with two possibilities.
1) You are conveniently mistaken or -- I'd like to think --
2) You're stretching things incredibly out of proportion to suit your own imaginative desires.

Since no one knows who the hell you are, how could we even begin to guess the color of your skin, eyes, clothes, or sexual preference? Considering some of the people who visit Amiga sites, how could you EVER suggest that we care? Oh, you can't. It's just a good excuse to troll. I see.

If you were "DoomMaster", your account was deleted (by mistake) by a new admin. It would have been banned in any event due to your continual abuse of the system. If you can't deal with that, then tough.

It seems someone is trying to post comments with the intent of creating trouble, and formulating them in a way to call moderators on ANN racist in case we remove them for what they are - flamebait, and very possibly impersonations.

Clearly, the problem with moderation is rarely the moderators (although there are exceptions), but a handful of posters that seem to derive some pleasure from making other people's lifes harder, and/or putting people in a situation where they might make a well-intentioned decision they might regret later.

I don't think I've noticed anything on amiga.org that would be classed as heavy-handed moderation.

I did though, see "Billsey"'s thread that Christophe has linked, where he implied that Bill Buck was stalking him and following him to the supermarket(!!!!). I think that tells me all I need to know about "Billsey".
